I work at the sherwood,i have also worked at the near by fairways and the belfry. The sherwood is a great place and the best pub ive worked at. Sue and murphy are great managers and the staff are nice to work with.(obviously im a bit biased). The food is great and excellent value for money.

I used to go in every weekend (Fri, Sat & Sun Night) for about 3 years, (around 14 years ago), It was ace as I was underage but could always get passed the bouncers and get served at the bar as I was tall :)

It did have it's moments like the time the bouncers locked us out due to gangs of youths hurling glasses, bottles and umbrella stands at the windows and doors and me and my mates we're brickin it as we was stuck outside with them.

But those moments we're few and far between.

probably different people running it too... but it was years ago, but I always enjoyed it anyway.

I also think it usually depends on how a pub is run, as to who goes to drink there. When I was younger (many years ago) it had a reputation for being lenient when It came to serving youngsters, thats why me and my mates used to go as we could always get served without having to show our fake ID.

Have you been on a Thursday night? If not your missing a good night out! Good music and a fantastic quiz with a difference! The first section is to guess the year with music from the sixties to the naughties then there a great quiz with general knowledge, sport, music and movies etc., all mixed into one great quiz! You can also win up to two hundred pounds with the Open the safe competition (builds up weekly until won!). Good music throughout the night, so come along and give it a try!

Themusicman
16-01-2009, 18:28
Hi the quiz starts 9.30 but music on from 9pm usually. Good night last night! Make sure you don't miss it next week! There will be over 100 pounds in the safe that could be won as it was a role over last night.

the pub is excelent and food is good, the only problems are if you hire the back room they are very strict with kids and wont have rowdyness or noise or they close the room,
it has been smashed up that many times once bitten twice shy.

We had our wedding reception there last May and couldn't fault anything. Sue and Murphy were fantastic and nothing was too much for them. All of our guests complimented the food, the staff, and the pub itself.

Me and my hubby go there more than any other pub now for nights out or a bite to eat as there isn't really anything round here (arbourthorne). The atmosphere is spot on.

I am on the committee of a disabled group who use the Sherwood for our monthly meetings, and for a social two or three times a year. Sue and Murphy are always welcoming, the staff are helpful, and the food always goes down well. For the socials, we have the back room. For the meetings, they close off one side of the eating area, and it works well for us.

I have been there many times - the last time was April 07. My family go there regularly for meals. I have friends who go out on Thursday/Friday evenings there for a good night.

When I was back there in 07 I bumped into an old flame who was working behind the bar there. Rob. so if anyone who goes in the Sherwood and knows him - please ay a big 'hello' from me .

Sherwood is spot on. when i lived up that area i loved spending hours in the there. friday nite, sat nite, sunday afternoon. Sue and murphy are very nice and why some people dont like them is because they dont take any crap from anyone. staff behind the bar are great. jess is classic alsways makes me laugh. food great, pub clean and well maintained. what more could u ask for.

spanker167
21-02-2009, 12:49
don't stand at the bar for too long after getting your drink or the landlady will bite your head off. The Birley is a much better pub. If you want a laugh though go in on a sunday when a big football match on, watching the landlady (butch, i think her name is) clearing the bar area by talking on a microphone is a real crowd pleaser

I use the sherwood often and find it is very good sue and murphy and the staff are pleasant. The food is excellent.
There is strict rules and if you follow them there is no problems. Weekends children out by 7 and no big groups of lads

I'v Dj'd there before refurb and after. It is a good place although i now work for their sons pub. Still go to sherwood.Had my wedding their ,brilliant night.
It still gets very busy although it may not look it with it being 1 very large room.
Check saturday nights out Karaoke. We don't even live close to it any more but still make the effort to go occassionally. But i can't go saturdays,so we go when disco is on.All staff are excellent as long as you don't step out of line like most places.Same goes for Sue/Murphy.They been doing it long enough, and are still so that says it all.

Hi im jess...i worked at the sherwood for the best part of four years...the best job ive ever ever had...what a laugh!!!! i only left four months ago and i miss it loads...Sue and murph are strict and i have been on the reciving end a few times. There strictness is for your safety, There are no rules and regs anymore anywhere and these are the places that are drug riddled unlike the sherwood,it is the best place for the weekend and you can still see me there having a few sneaky ones!!!! ray may the kareoke DJ on a sat is a legend probebly one of the funniest men i have ever met. DO NOT WEAR WHITE SOCKS ON A SAT NIGHT...ha ha there will be consequences...say hello from jess when u go in..and i shall be back to annoy them soon!!!!

You will always get some brain-dead dingbat getting lairy, after a couple of sniffs at the barman's apron, unfortunately.
