Whenever I go to the Safeway's on Ecclesall Road, I notice there is a professional hand washing service right outside their exit. Unfortunately I haven't used them, but just thought you might want to know. Hopefully someone else can vouch for them?

Been waiting for a moment to step into the forum and at last something I can answer with conviction!

I have used the place you mentioned (it's South Yorkshire Valeting) twice previously, both times with different cars. The man who runs the place is in his 60s, and likes to deal in cash - usually he will agree a price after having a look up and down your car and asking what you want...

However, I'm not going to use them again. Both times they left rather strange obvious shiny patches where the polish had been sprayed on in force leaving other surfaces merely dust free, secondly the overall cleanliness of the car wasn't as good as I had hoped (imagine you're paying £60 a time here) - for example the last job there was some old bird poo on the back seat (don't ask!) and he failed to get that off, thirdly the guy drives around in a (admittedly shiny) huge new jaguar and decides to bump up his price between you dropping the car off and you picking it up (both times he claimed he had quoted £5 more than he actually did), and both times I suspect the Inland Revenue know nothing about either amount, not that I blame him, but still... a sixty quid valet and I expect perfection to be honest, not what I got... both times.

Next time I'm going to try a very lazy option - look in the yellow pages for AutoSheen... they come to you, marvellous. Other than that, D.I.Y, we're all too lazy :)

Psalter Lane top end - just past Sheffield Hallam Psalter campus - there is a new hand car wash place - they are quick and dont **** you about. They might shoot you if you dont pay them though (lol)

As well as the Psalter Lane washing place at the old Jet garage there is a new one on Abbydale Road, it is just past the Broadfield on the right hand side as you're going away from town (again it used to be a Total petrol station).

Incidentally, has anyone noticed the amount of petrol stations, particularly in the city centre, that have closed in the last few years?

Some of them have been converted into car hand washing companies, some of them are being developed on (the Jet station on St Mary's Gate) while others have stood empty (the garage that was Eccelsall Road just passed Tesco or the BP garage that was near Wards Brewery).

The one on Queens road is a good one near hillfoot bridge, it costs eight pounds for a wash and valet.

I have been to the one just near Tinsley Viaduct off Meadowbank rd, its more in Rotherham. Its called Squaky Klean and they do a good wash n leather for just £2.50. :thumbsup:

I sat watching 2 ladies and a gent at a car wash on Handsworth road, right hand side as you go up after parkway roundabout, they gave the cars a right good going over. Not sure but it looked like they charged £4.50 according to my lipreading.

How about being less idle and washing it yourself?

I wasn't having the car washed , I was waiting for someone, he'd gone to fishing tackle shop

My bro used to work for Motorspa which was at an unused petrol station on Brammal Lane, that moved after so many months to Chrystal Peaks's car park and went into liquidation. the manager has now decided to own the wearhouse that sends books to the newly opened book shop on the fargate.

I think personally that hand car washes are a stupid business because by the time you have finished paying someone to use cleaning stuff that people are using from halfords, u could have done it yourself.

I think there is one on Abbeydale Road that is doing a special promotion at the moment - they will wash your dog at the same time!
