has anyone got advice on how to go about painting the natural wooden floor beams, i cant just varnish them because they vary in colour and have paint marks on them. Am wanting to paint them black but a nice gloss kind of black what paint will i need to use and how do i prepare for doing this

I guess you are talking about floor boards?
You could varnish them, but you would need to hire a floor sander, it does look good afterwards.
You could paint them black also, but you would need special loor paint to with stand the walking etc.
Go to Stokes on Little London rd and they will tell you everything you need, and they will have all the paint.
They are very helpfull for novices.
Word of warning, black will show up everything, dust, fluff, its amazing how much fluff and dust you get on bare floors, you just dont see it on carpets.
