Hi, just wondering if anyone can help.

Out of the list below, which are ok to give a puppy (not as food, just a treat):

Chicken
Ham meats inc bacon
tuna
salmon
pasta
milk
bread

any others I have missed, would be greatly appreciated.

I would be careful how much ham or bacon is offered due to the salt content, ditto the tuna and salmon (must be in spring water or oil because it's far too salty in brine).

Bread wouldn't naturally be part of a dog's diet and it can cause stomach problems in some dogs.

Pasta, rice and potato cooked without salt are good treats, as is cheese cut into cubes.

Molly adores little bits of dried black pudding or dried sausage, but any sort of fresh meat and cheese also hit the spot (as does pear, apparently!).

I know that lots of dogs also love raw carrot and lots of other vegetables so just experiment without offering things that are known to be bad or containing too much salt.

A list of the basic 'baddies' for dogs can be found here (http://www.petalia.com.au/templates/storytemplate_process.cfm?story_no=257#ct-7).

Thanks ever so much for the advice.

I have not given her any red meat so far, only a few small pieces of chicken but must admit that i gave her some tuna in brine (less than half a teaspoon probably) but will give that a miss in future.

Good to know about the veggies too, for some reason i had in my mind it might give them wind!

Any sort of food can give them wind, but just remember that dogs aren't carnivores, they're omnivores like us.

If they live on a diet of only meat then they will be getting too high protein and too low of other nutrients in their diet. Growing pups need lots of calcium so cheese is a good treat providing it's part of a varied diet.

With the exception of onions and garlic, chocolate and the other obvious things you can experiment with what they like.

I found out that one sardine gives Molly diarrhoea so bad that she started having accidents in the house, so I won't be trying that again, but that's one individual dog and it won't stop me trying her with different things that we happen to be having.

Be careful with milk too, it can cause the runs in some dogs... can't spell the D word :D

Ailsa (aka 'nellie) used to have 4 meals per day when we got her as a pup- one of which was weetabix in a little pet milk. She's never warmed to the idea of egg in any of its forms... Pasta she loved if mixed with drained tuna fish. Cooked chicken or turkey went down well.

She thrives best on Burns and either Natur Diet/Nature's Menu or Nature's harvest now though, with the occasional treat of tuna and rice or tuna and pasta. She will do anything for a pig's ear, a lump of cheese or a couple of maltezers.

She doesnt get much of a look-in with the cereals anymore- our havana cat Aero gets to my muesli or cheerios before Ailsa- but 'nellie' would be mightily miffed if we ever stopped letting her have her daily 'nellie-toast' with strawberry or apricot jam on it.

Cant add anything else to Medusa's post, only be careful with Tuna in Brine/oil as it is high is salt. If you want to feed Tuna stick with Tuna in Spring water.
