View Full Version : IAMS Dog food - animal testing
angellic 25-01-2008, 12:02 A friend of mine just told me to look at the PETA website .... & to look at the Iams section!!!
If you can handle it look at the video ... & Im sure if ANY of you out there feed you dogs or cats on Iams, you wont want to anymore!!!
The Shelter and SYAR took the decision not to use IAMS after seeing all of the data a number of years ago. Good nutrition it may be, but at what cost?
Bloomdido 25-01-2008, 13:01 I have been aware of this for many years as well. I wonder though what I am not aware of. I'm off to the PETA website right now!
angellic 25-01-2008, 13:37 I wasn't aware and found it quite shocking, luckly i've never feed my dogs iams, ive heard quite a few people saying they feed their pets iams i was just wondering how many of them were actually aware of this
IAMs complete sent our dobe hyper so no we tend to steer clear of it and I remember there being a big fuss about animal testing a while back, although I did pick up some cat food pouches earlier this month.
I have also been aware of this a number of years and will not buy any dog food tested on animals, or any other product for that matter.
There was a big uproar at Crufts about three years ago, as they were a sponsor, animal rights protesters turned up and caused a scene. I think the kennel club pulled them as sponsors because of it.
Bloomdido 25-01-2008, 16:34 Oops, see the post below.
Bloomdido 25-01-2008, 16:35 Ironic then that the link to this site appears on THIS page.
http://www.gjwtitmussshop.co.uk/acatalog/IAMS_COMPLETE_DOG_FOODS.html?kw=iams%20dog%20food&fl=103940
which site? I am confused, doesnt take much Bloomdido:hihi:
Why is that Ironic? Bloomdido?
Are any of you aware that eukanuba, purina and Iams are the same people?? I have fed eukanuba - it's good stuff but I stopped when I heard about the animal testing (and T grew out of it)
I am still looking into it because I have heard differing accounts from different people and PETA aren't exactly renowned for their integrity... I've heard of them stirring and exaggerating things before.
Also note - many pet foods 'tested on animals' have to say they've been tested on animals due to the law but in fact are only palatibility tests and the occassional skin scrape on an employees dog that is a pet and very much loved - I'm not saying this is the case with Iams but it is with many foods so don't be put off if it says tested on animals without looking into it properly.

Scroll up this page and look at the left margain at the side of these posts - Links in blue print under the title ads by Google. One is to an iams supplier.
knitbird 25-01-2008, 20:29 Whiskas once sent my parents a week's cat food and asked us to fill in a tick chart to tell them what the cat thought of it. That probably counts as "tested on animals" but Tom had no objections!
What else do people expect animal food to be tested on?
I'm strictly vegetarian and against unneccessary animal testing, but don't feel any affinity for PETA. They seem to me to be the kind of people who make all vegetarians seem like unthinking extremists.

I never even saw those ads before.:o shows how much notice I take.
tarateets 25-01-2008, 22:59 what do people on here recommend feeding their dogs?

How old is that video? 2002-2005? Dont you think things may have changed now? And the video was part of an investigation, ofcourse theyre only going to show the bad things! Its not much of an investigation if they show the dogs playing and being loved is it.
Its ironic that these people are campaigning for a stop to animal cruelty yet one of their own went in there undercover and filmed it going on. In 9 months they sat back and let it go on, now thats animal cruelty.
I dont advocate what theyve done, im just saying that there are 2 sides to every story. and my emily likes iams, im not going to deprive her of something she enjoys.
