View Full Version : Buying Lingerie For Women HellBoy 20-02-2005, 16:18 Now that Valentines Day has been and gone I would like to get some honest opinions from the Forum users on buying lingerie for their other half. adaline 20-02-2005, 16:39 As a man I would prefer an experienced woman to show me whats what. Tazz070299 20-02-2005, 16:49 Originally posted by adaline As a man I would prefer an experienced woman to show me whats what. Can't say that it bothers me about the age of the person serving, although when buying some lingerie in Ann Summers for my sister -in-law, on my wife's behalf, it was a bit embarrassing. Mind you, that was probably because I couldn't immediately remember the size my wife told me, and my excuse to the shop assistant was "it's not for my wife, but her sister" and they gave me a funny look. Tazz adaline 20-02-2005, 17:01 I didnt meen a very old gal. Im sure I'd faint if I had to ask a granny about underwear. happychick 20-02-2005, 17:15 Get a friend of yor other half to go with you and help, that way your onto a winner.Right size, right design and colour, she will think you are great. viking 20-02-2005, 17:51 Daftest i felt was when I went to buy my other half a bra and the assistant asked what size and I said "Size 15" She said "How did you work that one out?" I said "well, my cap size is 7and a half, and it just fits over one" manortopper 20-02-2005, 18:04 Originally posted by adaline As a man I would prefer an experienced woman to show me whats what. Dude u must have read my mind....... Strix 20-02-2005, 19:29 I'd have no problem with being served at the till, but I'd be a bit iffy about stripping to be measured by a male, then having my straps adjusted by him :suspect: Tony 20-02-2005, 19:34 If there is is one golden rule for men to follow it is this... Never, ever, ever, ever buy women underwear that you would like to see them in. Especially if it is in red man made fibres! brummy_tracy 20-02-2005, 19:42 Originally posted by Strix I'd have no problem with being served at the till, but I'd be a bit iffy about stripping to be measured by a male, then having my straps adjusted by him :suspect: Yes think it would be a touch iffy too, just imagine him asking could you just lift your left breast alittle while I put the tape around. I dont think so! alchresearch 20-02-2005, 19:52 Originally posted by Tazz070299 Can't say that it bothers me about the age of the person serving, although when buying some lingerie in Ann Summers for my sister -in-law, on my wife's behalf, it was a bit embarrassing. Can you call the stuff Ann Summers sells 'lingerie'? I imagine it to be rather tacky and seedy. Give me La Senza any day! Give me La Senza any day! :suspect: Yeah, La Senza's ded classy  victoriaplum 20-02-2005, 20:23 Sorry I had to post a message. I used to work in lingerie department in my early twenties, and the worst thing was when men asked you could recommend a bra size for their wives and saying they were the same size as mine. I don't think their wives would have been pleased at that! lol But I know it is confusing, with the cup and chest size, and the fact that when you go in different shops the sizes vary. Look at the label on her bra instead of coming into the shop and cupping your hands and saying they are this and that size. It doesn't help. lol Maybe it would be easier just to take her to another sort of shop. kazisindahouse 20-02-2005, 21:27 I work for Ann Summers as a Party Organiser and although, traditionally, the majority of of the people ordering at our parties are female its amazing how many have had their outfits picked out for them by their husbands/partners. Quite often women will "text or picture message" their other halves to ask, what do you think of this or what shall I get to go with that. Why do men find it so easy to shop for lingerie for their wives/partners through this method but feel embarrassed walking into a shop. I think they forget that just because they can't see me I know exactly what it is they're buying ... lol ... Captain_Scarlet 20-02-2005, 21:52 Well, the option I would choose isn't available, coz I'd vote: Yes, as a man it would put me off. alchemist 21-02-2005, 07:58 Originally posted by Tony If there is is one golden rule for men to follow it is this... Actually i think the golden rule is NEVER buy underwear for a woman unless you have a death wish, you can virtually guarentee it will be worng!! dave sarah_d 21-02-2005, 12:09 .................................................. ................................................ muddycoffee 21-02-2005, 12:39 I would never buy my woman underwear. But if I were to, I would want a woman to serve me. I would feel uncomfortable and seedy if it was a man. There is no option to vote for this. In the poll.. :loopy: just like Captain scarlet above:- Yes, as a man it would put me off Kthebean 21-02-2005, 13:18 Why is there not an answer on the poll that says "as a woman, yes I'd love it cos lingerie is far too expensive"? DanSumption 16-03-2005, 12:12 Originally posted by Tony If there is is one golden rule for men to follow it is this... Never, ever, ever, ever buy women underwear that you would like to see them in. Especially if it is in red man made fibres! Not true. I once bought my wife some red underwear, in man-made fibres, that I'd like to see her in (an Arianne Emmanuelle lace-up corset and thong-boy set like this one (http://www.wildinsecret.com/page/WIS/PROD/C030100/5379), from Figleaves), and she absolutely loved it. It was her favourite underwear for a long time. In fact, it was her favourite until I bought her some more... I was in Antwerp and I spotted a gorgeous lingerie shop, I forget what it was called, but it was the name of the Dutch woman who designs all the lingerie there. I had a great time in there, getting advice off the women working in the shop, choosing something really special. And then, as I walked down the street a group of young women walked past me... I could hear them whispering the name of the lingerie shop in awe, and pointing at my bag. Then I got to my Belgian friend's house, he had two women round there and they were similarly impressed, telling me that it's the most wonderful shop and my wife was going to absolutely love me. It was an expensive buy (over €100), but well worth it both for the initial pride in my purchase and attention it attracted and for the fact that my wife absolutely adored the underwear and said that, as well as being very sexy, it was the most comfortable she'd ever had. So, yeah, sometimes it does pay to buy your woman nice undies :) JonJParr 16-03-2005, 14:20 An interesting thread, I want to buy some for my girlfriend at the moment. Any good places in Sheffield that sell it or should I get some in Manchester next time I'm there on business? DanSumption 16-03-2005, 14:32 I'm not sure where in Sheffield is good, but Figleaves (http://www.figleaves.co.uk/) is very good for online buys, and they have a good returns policy if it turns out not to fit. HellBoy 16-03-2005, 15:25 Originally posted by JonJParr An interesting thread, I want to buy some for my girlfriend at the moment. Any good places in Sheffield that sell it or should I get some in Manchester next time I'm there on business? Click on the link and have a look around. This is Sheffield's newest online store for lingerie, there are other items on the site, i.e. Toys, which are due to be discontinued by the month end as I want to concentrate on lingerie. All lingerie is gift wrapped and shipped FOC to an address of your choice. http://www.candy-kiss.co.uk I hope you find something you like. xafier 17-03-2005, 08:22 I cant understand how guys DON'T know the size's of their girlfriends, and even worse, their WIVES! I could tell you the bra size, dress size etc of all my ex's :? course, that only numbers 2 people... but shhhh :P the point is, its not exactly hard to find out, it can easily come up in convosation, or if you plan to buy something, just be sneaky and take a peak at a few items of clothing, and bras... although one point is that sizes vary a LOT more for women then they do for guys clothes, which just plain sucks, I mean seriously... a size 10 in one shop should fit the same as a size 10 in another right? :? or a 38C bra should be the same as another 38C, not a 38D! anyways, I've never really bought underwear for a g/f, I've bought clothes... I think its a dodgy area to get into unless you've been with them for a while especially if you even try your hardest to know their size, buy something then it's too small even though its not your fault, then you'd just get that evil look that says "you wish I was thinner??"... and if its too big you get the "you think I'm THIS fat?" look :( seriously, buying clothing for women is the hardest thing on the planet! Give me some quantum physics to solve over clothing picking for a g/f anyday! lol oh and, to actually answer the poll... I think it would put me off, I wouldn't really want to take advice from a guy on buying for a woman, he's probably got about as much clue as I have... lol... unless he cross dresses :hihi: angel14 17-03-2005, 08:48 JJP: If you want to buy knickers in Sheffield, I can recommend Gash (near west street/division street). My boyfriend bought me some from there and they are gorgeous. (oh, and he just asked me what size I was-- I can't see how that will end in tears-- Why would I mind telling my boyfriend what size hips/bra size I am?) Fabulous underwear + some great designers. Some of it is expensive, some of it isn't. Together you can make an informed decision about your purchase without the need to guess which size or style you should order and dispenses with the embarrasing situations men seem to find themselves in when visiting a lingerie shop. Then all you have to do is sit back and wait for your order to be delivered. Which by the way, will be beautifully gift wrapped and delivered free of charge. |
