View Full Version : Dog hairs on carpets
BIG - EL 24-01-2008, 13:28 Hi all, i just thought i'd let you know about this. One of my dogs is dark medium haired and she sheds a lot - to top it all we have creamy carpets, not a good combination. i researched some vaccum cleaners and found this one. it's a VAX v-091 performance pets cylinder cleaner with about 4 attatchments and a turbo brush thingy. i'll tell you it clears a path thru pet hair, not only that it does bring up the pile too. it is absolutly brilliant. and best of all it's half price in argos just now at £74.99. this is how good it is, my partner dave even volunteers to vaccum now !!!!!!! so it must be good. i would really recommend if you need a new cleaner get down to argos now and get one of these - even if you dont need one get one anyway.
thanks

holidayhutch 24-01-2008, 14:03 Does it get blocked up at all? We bought an Electrolux pet lovers vac a few months again and it is next to useless. Picks it up when you vac forwards then spits it out again as you pull the vac backwards. I have a border collie and a whippet x and it cant even cope with hair from them being vac'd up from laminate.
I would love to volunteer to trial various makes of vacuum cleaner- Ive gone through no end of em over the years and theyve all had their faults - Phillips, Elextrolux, Hoover, Morphy Richards, Miele, Dyson, Vax, Bissell to name but a few - all either fallen to bits or gone to sheffield frreecycle when I've given up in disgust. I think the only brand name I've never owned is SEBO and they're next on my list. I had a Typhoon (cheap brand) a couple of years ago and that's still pretty good but heavy. Every turbo brush I've ever had (regardless of brand) has always got clogged up very quickly and was more faff than good so I don't get excited if there's one included now.
The slim-line Dyson Ive got at the moment picks up really well BUT it was designed by a moron who'd clearly never had to use one and it's no use whatsoever if you're trying to clean furniture or soft furnishings. The extra long hose is great for stairs but the attachments are next to useless. DYSON IF YOU'RE LISTENING PLEASE LET ME TRIAL YOUR NEXT PROTO-TYPE!
I do miss my MIELE though - it finally gave up the ghost after 18 or so years but sadly it was a cylinder and I need to use an upright now (back pain).
BIG - EL 24-01-2008, 21:22 hi all, the vax i bought has a turbo brush that when you attatch it to the metal part of the hose spins with the suction so there is no no clogging or spitting stuff out. it also has 5 different levels of suction , i use level 3 , i have'nt tried level 5 as i want to keep the pile on my carpet, scared incase it would suck the pile out of the backing - ha ha. the only down side i would say about it is because it's a bagless cylinder it has an air filter inside the collecting canister and if you dont clean it it does loose a wee bit suction and all you do is take it out and bang it gently into your dust bin to clean it. the metal hose bit is really good as well as it can be lengthened or shortened to suit so it may help if you have a back problem. it also just glides over the carpet making it really effort less.it used to take me ages to do the carpets now i can get the whole place done quickly. also if you have a muddy paw print , leave it to dry it even sucks that up as well. i could'nt beleive it when i saw that. it's a lot lighter than an upright too. it has 2400w of suction , most of the ones on the market are between 1200 & 1800 that i have seen.
hope this helps, and no i'm not on commission from vax - ha ha
good luck but get them fast as i dont know how long the offer is on for . they are £149.00 normally.
cheers

I currently have a slim dyson but its not fantastic at picking up and is so heavy on stairs...
i hpe this one impresses me!
ive just reserved one from argos and then decided to google it for reviews....
very poor!!
Most people not impressed mainly with having to clean the filter everytime you use it which is very messy!?
:help:
it seems, things are always half price for a reason!!!
blue-kat 26-01-2008, 14:28 I've got the dyson slim DC18, best hoover we've ever had for picking up pet hair, we have 2 dogs and 3 cats.
I find it light and manoeverable on floors, never tried it on the stairs, I leave that job to other people :D

but it's rubbish for trying to clean cushions and curtains with - unless you've got long arms- you have to have someone to hold the cushions whilst you run the hose over them- the extendy hose is great for stairs but the attachments are'nt very felxible. Granted the vaccum itself if very effective but I wish someone had thought out the attachments and extension a bit better. I went for it because I have back problems and lugging a full-sized one about or upstairs is just not an option.
BIG - EL 28-01-2008, 20:24 hi potter, no it's not quite the same one - i think it's the next one up - but that one looks pretty good to though

holidayhutch 29-01-2008, 14:30 Yep it is Big El - we're well impressed - thanks for the recomendation, the suction is fantastic
the best thing ever for getting up dog hairs is the sebo upright
it has an industrial guarantee too
mine is now 10 years old, as is my mum's
It has S-class filtration as standard, but those filters are nowhere near as expensive as for the same level from other manufacturers. you can buy carbon filters for them too, if pet smells are a problem
if you have a long haired breed you'll really appreciate the push-button removable roller brush
it has bags, but as I used to sell vacuum cleaners and used to get to bring them home to test them, I found this makes them less messy to empty than the less-reliable dyson, the bags etc. costed over a year work out at less than the dyson filters, and the arrangement of the innards means it doesn't lose suction like the other bagged cleaners do
TattyBear 05-02-2008, 19:43 I bought a sebo and its the best hoover we have ever had. It was an x4 (i think) and i got it delivered from cole brothers. Its brilliant.
