Ok one for all the techies!

Have a desktop computer with BT broadband internet connection.

Have just purchased a laptop with wi-fi.

Have just purchased a router to be able to surf on the laptop downstairs.

So my question is, I have Norton Firewall and Antivirus on the desktop which I subscribe to annually. The new laptop has Norton Security Centre on it. Is it worth me subscribing to that when I already have the Firewall and Antivirus software as I presume my surfing will be going through the desktop connection?

Or have I got that arse about tit?

:help:

It doesn't go through your desktop. It comes from the wireless box into each machine independently, so they need to be protected independently

Unless you've invented a new way of connecting the stuff up :D

Having just taken the router out of the box this may take some time as I try to decipher the instructions... :gag:

Loads of useful threads on here if you 'search'. People have already asked how to set them up.

There is a good chance your router will have a built in firewall but as i can't even get to mine i don't trust it :suspect: .
I have both my computers protected independently.
I don't see why your connection will be going through your desktop. Both computers should connect to the router separately.

I bought this laptop 7 weeks ago and the first thing i did when switching it on, is remove 'Snortin' Norton completely and install AVG7 and Sygate personal firewall.

Belt and braces every time, mate.

I have a firewall (Zonealarm, free from zonelabs.com) on each of my computers (4 in total). Also have firewall and NAT on the wireless router, plus XP's built-in firewall on each 'puter. Norton anti-virus software on each one too.

I also use Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy on each computer.

I have never been infected with a virus, and I have been online for 9 years.
