for some reason for some reason my ipod isnt in the source list of my itunes:loopy: also when i click on edit and then prefrences it says no i pod connected but it is connected as its charging up on the computer
does it sound like i need to reinstall the i pod software ?
I would update your Itunes to the latest one mate and also update the Ipod as well just to be sure.
Also make sure your ipod cable is connected into a firewire port or usb 2.0 port.

i did that still no luck its either the ipod itself or the usb 2 socket. its been in the computer since friday and its still trying to charge up so looks like its going to be a trip to where i bought it from:( :( :( :(
Try a reset first - press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. You should have to hold the buttons down for about 6 to 10 seconds.
May also be worth reseating the cable - although it's charging from the PC it may need a wiggle. Try a different socket too.
If no joy, try a restore using the iPod Updater program from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20050111.html
tried all that im more than convinced its the usb all i can hope is that the shop will give me a new usb2 thing:( :( :(
try this first:
www.ephpod.com
Its an iTunes alternative, much nicer to use.
By USB "thingy", do you mean "USB hub"? If so, does it have it's own power supply? You say the iPod is charging, but does it actually display "charging" on it's screen? If not, the hub may not be able to provide sufficient power - try the mains charger for a couple of hours.
Another thought, is the hub USB2 AND connected to a USB2 socket on your PC?

it charges ok with the standard plug but when its connected via usb2 on the computer it looks like its charging but its not i can copy cds into my itunes folder but it wont transfer them onto the ipod:loopy:
charging via USB? thats gotta be the stupidest idea I've heard... USB has hardly any power output to charge something :?
have you tried transfering whilst its plugged into the mains? tried different USB ports?
I dont know many Ipod related ideas as I wouldn't touch one with a 10ft barge pole... too much of a fashion statement than a music player in my opinion... but hey, each to their own ;)
it charges perfectly on the normal mains plug and yeh ive tried the other ports utter madness if only had got the samsung player cos thats the one i really wanted:loopy: :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:

All current iPods can/do charge via USB. As do several mobile phones, PDA's etc
Hope you get it sorted panda79!
