View Full Version : Icy Roads Warning Issued by Council
This is worth noting. A warning of icy roads has been posted on the City Council website. Note what's in bold!
Icy Roads Warning - Monday 21 January: temperatures are expected to fall to around freezing point tonight and a full gritting of the city's roads is being planned this evening and through the night. However, following the recent rainfall, a few roads are experiencing significant "run-off" that may wash away some of the grit, and in some cases may become hazardous. Motorists are advised to take extra care on their journeys tonight and tomorrow morning.

Thats all we bloody need! What next? A volcano erupting in Hunters Bar???
I'd read that they're supposed to be adding molasses to the grit/salt in order to make it adhere to the road to avoid any "run-off", have they changed their minds?

I think, logically, there's a limit to how long anything soluble can be made to say where it's put in running water.
I heard the ice warning earlier. Whilst my thermometer read 11.5 C

Temperature at Derbyshire Lane has fallen from 10.2 degrees C at 15:21 (this afternoon) to 5.4 degrees C just a few moments ago, and falling.
I can assure you that when I was out at about 5.30pm this evening it was NOT warm and I was decidedly cold and glad to be home by the time I got back indoors.

That would be quite good, actually.

Hahahahahahahaha! The students wouldn't have to worry about heating anyways ;)
Warnings won't do a thing unfortunately.
Been up and down the M18 & M62 the last few days and countless idiots flying past on standing water. And speaking of countless, I lost count of the wrecked cars I've seen on the M-Way. All sat on their own, no other wreck nearby, indicating probably aquaplane, loss of control and leaving the road - all due to excessive speed for the obviously bad conditions

neither would the rest of us - we'd all be gone for a burton.

Wouldn't have to worry about the icy roads though....
Or floods....
I've just arrived home from visiting someone just outside Bradford and it is snowing thick and fast there. 50 miles and a few hundred feet in altitude is all it takes for the temperature to drop below the freezing point of water.
I heard the cops have been pulling people in and booking them for 'inappropriate speeds' in the past few days because of the weather and the bad conditions. How do they do the convictions? Do them for dangerous driving?
And they dumped some grit on our road but it's already washing off so be warned...

I'd settle for a little one then, probably in the middle of the roundabout there. Just big enough to spew some magma onto Nonnas and that ;)
PS I'm quite fond of volcanoes...

Something like that. And about time.
Sometimes 60mph is far more dangerous than doing 90mph in good conditions, but people just see the number before "mph" and make assumptions.

so would I preferably somewhere like Antigua, Dominica somewhere like that with a blazing sun, gorgeous blue sea and stony beach for a very, very long time.
Anyhow turning to the practicalities in hand, let's hope that the rain, snow and sleet will be fairly manageable.

I was obviously experiencing a bout of sarchasm. :D
