I'm trying to find information about The Source at Meadowhall but their website is pretty minimal. Does anyone know much about the place, ie, what they do, is it any good (other than hold martial arts classes about which there are a number of threads already).

Thanks!

I think its a joint venture between Meadowhall, Sheffield College and the Job Centres. It partly creates training space for the tenants at Meadowhall to train their staff, partly Sheffield College Courses and partly training rooms for hire for other training companies. Also conference facilities and meeting rooms.

I think.

I'm still at a loss as to whereabouts in Meadowhall this Source thingy actually is?

I know it's somewhere near Debenhams, as it's signposted around there.

They also have a gym which you get a discount to join if you work for Meadowhall. It's near Tinsley Tram Stop, head to the blue car park and keep going until you get to the crossing and its there! It always seems to be empty though, even when it first opened!

If yo are driving and come into Meadowhall from Tinsley side(nearest to Mercedies showroom and Premier Lodge hotel etc.) You would pass the Sainsbury's petrol station on your right. The next roundabout you turn right and find yourself on the perimeter road around the shoping centre. The source is the office building on you right about hundred yards down, facing Meadowhall, you are right nearly opposite Debenhams.

Its a little tricky getting into The Source car park. I normally have to go into the Meadowhall car park just after passing The Source, then do a 180 on the road to face the traffic lights agian. You then have to turn right and then slow right down for the akward turn into their car park.

Better off using the tram if you can.

Thanks! its good if you just want to drop in when u can and learn, but if you want proper teachers ur best off enrolling in normal college and doing night school. i do computing there, but go to a proper college for a different subject.
personally think its better for people who are clueless about computers, or topping up GCSE/Alevel Computing or people getting back into work
Car park is naff aswell, cafe pants, gym pooh, staff ok though:D

I worked at NEXT for four months last year, and I had to ring up The Source to enquire about the job. Probably not much help to you, but you never know..... :)

The Source at Meadowhall is like a big community building for Sheffield and the local community. It is part owned by Sheffield Council, and British Land (company that owns meadowhall), Objective One and Yorkshire Forward.

It is the brand-new building located opposite Debenhams and the blue car park. It is also in front of the Tinsley South Tram stop.

GROUND FLOOR
The Source has a state of the art gym, which is open to the public. Memberships start from £25 per month off peak and £35 peak. Prices include use of the gym and all the fitness classes e.g. Pilates, Yoga, Circuit training, Hips Bums and Tums, Jeet kun do, Boxercise etc etc.

The Source also has stand up sun beds and a beauty room for the ladies.

On the ground floor there is also a large café which is open to the public.

There is also a crèche, which is open to the public, and it takes kids from the ages of 12 weeks - 10 years. The crèche is open Monday - Friday 9-5.

FIRST FLOOR
There is an IT learning centre that is ran by Sheffield College. In the IT learning centre members of the public can have access to over 150 PC’s and learn numerous Sheffield College courses. The college is open Monday to Friday 9-5.

There is a jobcentre that is helps people from disadvantaged areas find work. Unfortunately this is not a walk in jobcentre.

The Source also runs a Schools programme whereby local schools in Sheffield and Rotherham work in classrooms and learn about Retail and Customer Service. They learn GNVQS in the subjects and come to The Source two days per week.

SECOND FLOOR
On the second floor there are a number of different sized conference rooms ranging from a 150 seater lecture theatre to a small meeting room that seats 6 people. Anybody can hire a room out for training, meetings, conferences, product launches interviews etc etc.

The Source runs a programme, which helps returners into work by providing them with IT training, CV Building sessions, Confidence building sessions and work placements. The Source helps people return to work and helps change their lives.

Another way the Source helps change a person’s life is through the Supported Employment Project. This project helps young people with autism find paid employment until one day they become totally independent in their job.

There is also a library, again this is open to the public and anyone can join.

The Source also runs internal training such as First Aid, Manual Handling, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, Deaf Awareness, Security and health and Safety training.

Another form of training The Source offers is Apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are NVQ programmes that people aged 16-24 can access in their job. They are available in Customer Service, Retail, Distribution and Warehousing and Administration.

I think that is pretty much it... Oh there is one thing I did miss off. The Source also has toilets on each floor!

Hope this helps.

How old do you have to be to join the gym?

Anybody aged 16 + can join the Gym. That's pretty much the industry standard for Health and safety regs.

I've seen on a previous post that gym membership costs £25 / month off peak and £35 / month for peak. But what I'd like to know is whether you have to sign up for 12 months, or can just do this on a rolling basis i.e. sign up for one month at a time.

You can buy a month pass at a time from reception if you wish.

If you did decide to join up permanently you wouldn't have to sign up for twelve months like some gyms. Each months payment comes out of your bank by direct debit. All we ask of you is that you give us three months notice to cancel your direct debit.

For example if you told us you wanted to leave on the 25th March we would take payment out on. Then no further payments will be taken out after June. You can still attend the gym during April, May and June.

Does that make sense? Tell me if not.

Getting to the Source by tram is a 'walk in the park' as there's a stop right outside it!

Ive just recently joined and find the source gym to be brilliant. They have an instructor assess you, take your measurements, ask why you want to join the gym and how you want yourself to look. Then he/she takes you around all of the machines for an in depth induction(which i recommend) and you have your own training programme designed which helps motivate you.

All the results are placed on your own individual computer key, which you put in the machines before you start.

Its a relaxed atmosphere and not too busy.

Ive just started a jeet kune do class which is martial arts, free with your membership or £4 if not.

Try the month pass....even if its just to sit in the sauna in the changing room!

Why would you go to a gym/conference centre expecting the cafe to be great anyways?

Thanks for your comments on the gym. I will pass them on to the gym manager.
