Hopefully this summer wont be as bad as the last one, I have decided that I aren't going to grow peas, cabbage, chard and celeriac this year after last years disapointments.

I am going to grow:

Potatoes, Carrots, leeks, parsnips, sweetcorn, chilli peppers, courgettes, pumpkins, lettuce, tomatoes, broadbeans and borlotti beans after good success with all these last year.

I bought an electric propagator so I can start my chilli peppers off nice and early also.

Hiya Rich, I had a pretty poor season too, but I'm determined to beat the meeces and so I've bought 5 packets of peas (three for me, two for them :))

I'm definitely not going to grow aubergines, I have no success with them and I'm thinking of not bothering with the sweet potatoes again.

Otherwise all the usual suspects: potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, sweetcorn, garlic, onions, blueberries, raspberries, beans beans and more beans (I have about 8 varieties :hihi:), squash, carrots, leeks, parsnips, beetroot, flowers, rocket and some courgettes. Think thats about it :)

Plus lots of fruit!

As well as the usual suspects I'm going to give salsify a go (parsnip like thing), it's supposed to have a more intense flavour. Also trying mange tout and going for cornsalad and other lettuce/herb/edible wild type things to eat through the winter months (planning on a polytunnel); not sure which ones yet. Also going to get into green manures and planting a couple of almond trees and a medlar hopefully.

Ooo a medlar - my aim is to get one of those eventually - what do you do with the fruit?

My kids have decided that this is the year for growing pumpkins - nothing special, they just compete against each other - I haven't bought the seeds yet though - when do you sow them?

Not much here, but Im seriously thinking about trying to grow some sundew plants around my ponds. Enough spagnum moss and moisture, and Im pretty sure that I could do it, its going to be experimental and itll decide on weather I can get hold of the plant from a garden center but I think itll be worth a try.

maybe April. Wait until its much warmer and the days are lighter - they grow rapidly, so you don't want to start off too early and then be dodging the frost.

They are very easy to start, but perhaps sow some extras in case of 'accidents' (my god daughter snapped her sunflower whilst 'tending' it and was soooooo upset).

I put my pumpkin plants out in april last year when the weather was lovely. They started to fruit however the wettest june on record destroyed the fruits. I was lucky enough that they re-flowered and I still had 3-4 pumpkins from 2 plants.

I recommend putting them in the sunniest part of your garden/allotment.

This year I'll be mostly growing...... weeds, brambles and other nasties!

Still in the process of clearing off our plot at Hagg Hill.

Been at it 4 months now.:( The students next door did it in 2 weekend, but there where 10 of them!
