I have had a problem with trojans, viruses and adware/spyware.
Tried Avast, AVG, Ad-Aware and Spy Doctor and nothing seems to be able to remove them.
I have both the Norton 2007 and Norton 360 software which I can use and have just put the 360 back on the computer, but when the computer starts up I cannot get the 360 to work even though it states on start up that it is installed. The XP pack one is on the computer and I can't install the pack2 option as it will not allow me access.
Can anyone give me some advic please?

Thanks.

AVG is perfectly fine, but if you really do want to use Norton then go for a full un-install/re-isntall of everything Norton-related.

There is a "proper" uninstaller available on their website.

well for a start you shouldn't be running Norton let alone two different versions of it at the same time - uninstall anything with norton in the name, then get Avast or AVG and some good Spybot/Malware scanners and stop downloading porn from the questionable sites....

are the norton versions propr boght ones? or have you been naughty and downloaded them|||| the downloaded versions usually contain these trojans etc because its a good place to hide them!!!

swallow deep and go buy a proper version

Just have one anti virus software onthe pc, 2 will conflict with each other.

AVG and AVAST do free versions that I have found just as good if not better than the paid for version.

When you have got one on, do a full deep system scan.

If you've got all of the above then I'd think your best bet is to completely reformat your computer as you probably won't be able to completely rid your computer of malware with any combination of antivirus/spyware programs, and what's more If your PC is THAT infected then there's a strong possibility that you might have dangerous root kits lurking deep in your system, and these aren't detected by the usual antivirus of anti spyware programs.

In short, your computer sounds far too infected to recover by using any particular antimalware programs whether they be free or paid for.

Your best bet would be to save all the files that you need to keep onto disc or if you have one an, external hard drive.
Once you have saved everything you want to keep (and check that they have been saved properly), Simply use the original dics that came with your PC to reformat the disc and reinstall your Windows operating system.

You computer will then be as good as when you first brought it,and free from any malware.
You will need to reinstall all your programs including your internet set up, so make sure you have your password details etc before you reformat your disc.
Just choose One Antivirus program (I my self wouldn't install Norton as there are too many documented problems with using Norton and it's not easy to unistall completely once you've installed it, for my money AVG Free does the job adequately enough)
And install a good Firewall like Comodo or ZoneAlam, which are both free but better than the standard Windows firewall, If you want to stick with the Windows firewall for so reason, do make sure it is switched on, as I know it isn't always switched on by default(go to Start Menu then Control Panel then Security centre and check the information that you see there)

One the easiest and best prevention method against picking up spyware and even some viruses is to STOP using Internet Explorer, and use a much, much safer and secure browser like Opera.

If you do decide to reformat your disc, you'll need a bit of patience, but in the end it will be worth it to get you PC malware free.

Yes and do a search for any file with symantec in the name,Norton is hard to fully get rid off but it can be done.

Doesn't that rather defeat the object of reformating? Viruses etc could just be preserved in the copied files.

A legitimate install of the latest version of any decent AV will get rid of anything, no matter how infected the PC is.

Fair comment about the possible infected files but the single files can and should be scanned individually.

The important thing is that the Operating system and registry is free from the infections.
If this machine was infected by a single virus and perhaps a bit of spyware, then I would advocate attempting to get rid of them using antivirus or anti spyware applications.
No anitivirus or antispyware will "get rid of anything" even if it is paid for, and standard antispyware will not always detect possible root kits.
The OP mentions that he has had no sucess with various antivirus/spyware programs, so something a little more drastic seems needed here, rather than the odd patching up of the odd wound, this patient seems in critical condition.
It's obvious that this PC has been overun by multiple malware, and because of this it's also going to make even the best antimalware solution hard at detecting everything.

And which particular application do think is capable of this feat?

OK, should probably read "ought to get rid of most common infections".

Sounds to me like the OP's problems have arisen due to using hacked AV software, which is a notorious source of multiple, but usually fairly trivial, infections. Once you get a legit version running, the problems may well disappear.

If not, I would agree with going down the reformatting route, but you're still going to need legit protection - it's the one thing that just isn't worth skimping on.
