Tell us what is in flower or what is at its best in your garden this week/month.

JANUARY
At the moment I have a lovely patch of Hellebores. Some are the usual Christmas roses and some are the mauve ones. Ive never managed such an impressive show from these before, but cant claim the credit, as they were here when I moved in and just popped their heads up for Christmas. I must read up on them so I know how to encourage them further.

My snowberry, whilst not in flower, is looking really impressive laden with white berries. Apart from that, things are a little disappointing! I am also thinking of things I planted in my old garden which would be at their best: a Winter Jasmine, a Mahonia and a witch hazel.

My winter pansies are a disappointment this year. When I grow them from seed I tend not to get flowers during winter even though I get proper winter pansy seeds. But when I buy them from the garden centre, they always flower. Ive no idea what Im doing wrong there!

Indoors, Ive had a lovely show from one bowl of hyacinths and another is coming along to replace it. I plant about 5 bowls in autumn, leave them in the garage, and bring them into the house one by one. I also have a bowl full of yellow crocus on the windowsill. I read somewhere you cant force yellow crocus, but this proves them wrong. I usually get my bulbs from Wilkinsons, but this year I bought half from Wilkos and half from Loxley garden centre. I thought I would see which came up best.

Will post some photos later.

Please add your contributions and brighten up the dull winter days.

I've got a couple of Ox Eye Daisies in flower and also some violas.

The daffodils and alliums are pushing through, but I don't expect flowers until end February.

I can't wait for Spring to arrive.

I've got hellebores and Cyclamen Coum coming into flower, but my best at the moment are two highly-scented flowering shrubs,Viburnum Bodnantense 'Dawn' and Sarcococca Confusa.

The shrubs sound lovely. I think I had a viburnum with a few flowers last month. Are they small pink flowers on the ends of bare twigs? I had been calling it Daphne but that might be another name for it.

That's the one.I bought it years ago in a plastic sleeve from Woolworths, and it's now about 8ft tall, and fills the back garden with scent. The sarcococca is a small evergreen shrub with tiny scented flowers, which I've got outside the front door, with some daphnes which will follow on in March. Most garden centres stock these plants.I think the key with winter-flowering stuff is to have it near the house,so you don't have to tramp down the garden in bad weather to enjoy it!

I've got some plants still flowering from summer, like cornflower, and some cyclamen still going.

Also have loads of Iris and Crocus coming through, a few snowdrops. The Iris are very close to flowering now with the crocus just behind and the snowdrops are surprisingly lagging.

I have my Iris flowering now! I can't believe it, surely that's much earlier than normal?!?!

I knew they were growing a lot recently... But figured it'd be another few weeks or more before they flowered! Haven't even managed to get them into their proper pots yet - still in tomato pots temporarily, bah.

Edit * The bulbs are outside, I haven't forced them into flower for indoors.

I have a couple of chrysant bushes in full flower, some primulas (yellow ones only!) 2 miniture roses which have not stopped flowereing all year, a winter flowering jasmine and believe it or not a fuchsia (which should be in the greenhouse) which has been flowering since the end of the summer.

FEBRUARY

I have discovered clumps of snowdrops under the privet hedge, which cheered me up no end!

My tete a tete daffodils are flowering (but only in the tubs!)

Not strictly flowers, but my hardy fuchsias are showing new green leaves.

And I have a gorgeous vase of 12 red roses on my windowsill!

February

My rose bush has some very small buds on :) and my clymatis has nice new green leaves

My bulbs are just long green shoots - does this mean they are 'forced'? and if so, what does that mean? Next door's bulbs are all out and flowering!

The bluebells have just finished in mine, and the flowers on both lilac trees are turning brown. The smell when they were blooming was really lovely.
Hardy geraniums
Aquilegia
Osteospermum
One lonely paeony
Oxalis
Pinks

We've been here 3 years, and are still in the process of organising and planting. We've learnt from past experience not to get rid of everything, but to wait and get a feel for whats already here.

Fantastic clematis flowers today - the rain seems to have given them a real boost, and about 7 opened this morning.

Bowles' perennial wallflower -It has been flowering non stop, for 18 months in a very exposed and windy, south facing garden.
We aso have passion flower with lots of buds but no flowers. So we have moved it to a more sheltered spot to see if it flowers next year.

Forget me not's are lovely as they are covered in flowers all spring, and once you have them they seed themselves and don't really need any looking after.

I know this seems a strange thread to bring back up in the middle of November, but I can't believe whats still in flower in my garden at this time of year..
My Dianthus are still going strong, my verbascum and verbena still have plenty of flowers on them, plus my penstomon are still in bloom..
Does anyone else still have summer plants in flower now ?? If so, what are they ??

HarrietStar

Roses are still going strong, busy lizzies have only just stopped flowering this week, think the frost the last couple of nights finally killed them off!

Unbelievably, I've got a (common, tall) gladioli out at the moment! It looks as if the frost & snow has got it, the petals are rather translucent, but it does stand out well against the white snowy background!!

Hi,

This thread seems linked (sort of) to a thread I've posted about a project I'd like to organise (it's called Regional Growing Information Collection and is posted here but I'm a newbie in terms of posting, so I can't link to it).

Basically, the social bit of information sharing would stay in places like this - why duplicate, I have a full time job to do when I'm not volunteering for things like this! But, I'd like to organise information such as your garden blooms into an easily searchable place, so that gardeners looking for information on what grows well in their region can find it in a quick, organised fashion.

If you'd like to submit information similar to what's been submitted here to me that'd be great, I'm more than happy to come back on Monday and post what we managed to get done at the meeting I'm attending on Saturday.

Kind regards,

Hannah
