View Full Version : Wireless router - no longer wireless, nor routing...

I really don't want to go to PC World tomorrow - can someone help me!

I've had my laptop working wirelessly through a Belkin router/modem (an F5D7632-4 if that makes any sense) for over a year now. I switched in on this morning and the laptop didn't detect a wireless network. Gave up, went out, now it's detecting networks but not mine (and they're secured too - how untrusting can neighbours be!). I've just tried linking the router and laptop with a cable and that didn't work either - the router knew something was plugged in (even though light no.4 lit up while I'd plugged it into no.1 on the back :loopy: ) but it couldn't connect because it couldn't reassign the IP address..

The only lights on the Belkin are power and the no.4 wired port when the cable's connected, no wireless light nor adsl light.

Soooo, is my router probably bust or is there hope? If no hope, what reliable, simple modem/router should I be looking for? I promise not to go to PC World!

Cheers all!

Hi before you buy another router its worth reseting it. There usually a small hole that you can push a pen into. Check your instructions but the usual procedure is to hold it pushed in for a few seconds then release. When it has reset you can re-enter your username and password and connect again

I was sort of hoping not having to do that, due to probably not accurately remembering what the username and password is...

I tryto be e-secure, so vary usernames and passwords, but it just ends up in more hassle!

Hi vicky, When you reset the router it will reset the password to the default. (I'vr just done a quick search and the default is a blank password) Then you will just need to enter your ISP Username and password, which you'lll have to do anyway if you bought a new router.
Hope that clears up what I said

Thanks sixriver. I bit the bullet and pushed the reset button, but nothing happened, even though I waited over 30 secs - no flashing lights, nothing went off, but now the wired cable isn't being detected either...

I've spoken to Belkin's suport who say it must be a problem with my phone line (even though I told them that I plug the exact same phone cable into my modem for my elderly PC which is working fine) so I'm getting BT to do a line test, then need to get PlusNet to do a "whoosh test" apparently

Hmmmm...

If you can't even log into the router's setup page via a cable then something is definitely wrong with it. Nothing the ISP does is going to help...

Definitely... if it's under guarantee then you should be able to get it replaced, from what you've said it ain't right. If no joy there PM me with your username and I can take a look at your fault, maybe even sort out some alternative hardware you can test with before we raise it to BT.

you have tried unplugging it for a while & then plugging it back in again? unplug everything from the router, go make a cup of tea, drink it, then plug it all back in again. try holding the reset button in again too, after you've got it all connected up again.

also, have you tried setting a static ip address for your computer, in the same subnet as the router? if you've no idea what i just said, i can explain. it is fairly unlikely to help though.

if that doesnt work, its bust.
