I have grown courgettes [sp?] for the last couple of years, in the same bed. The first year they went bonkers - I got tons of the veg (more than I could handle - and I can eat a lot of them!!!:) ).

Last year was a different story. I got about a third of the yield and those I got were much, much smaller than the previous year.

One of the many gardening mags I get suggested good crop rotation for better yields and improving the soil. Trouble is, it didn't go as far as to say what was the best kind of veg to plant in the bed that had had courgettes in the previous year.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking cabbage or cauli's or maybe onions (white - I've tried red a couple of times with no success at all

Yes,cabbages etc.are the best crop to follow gross feeders like courgettes.Add manure or compost to another bed and grow your courgettes there this year.Follow the cabbages next year with root crops (carrots, turnips) then manure that bed and it's back to the courgettes the year after.
