It seems to be quite popular in Sheffield It's had us confused for years. It's at it's height of a summer evening, but it's not barbeques. It's more a wood/leaf thing, but you'd expect that to be autumn. Many small industrial estates are equiped with a flaming bin and two blokes with big sticks  C'mon you indiginous Sheffielders  Share the secret  What are you guys up to? Kristian 18-02-2005, 01:51 I live quite near, and I haven't noticed a chimney; will have a look tomorrow! K x Carmine 18-02-2005, 10:05 I've been walking past that thing for a week and I haven't seen it emit smoke...they're putting up some apartments on the other side of Holme Lane and the construction comapny have been working on the water supply and the power cables...but just what the three storey blue thing is remains a mystery! feargal 18-02-2005, 10:09 Are they really going to be apartments?! I thought it was a car park for the tram stop! Wonder if they'll market them as "luxury riverside accomodation, close to transport links" or "flats on busy noisy main road"... Wonder if they'll market them as "luxury riverside accomodation, close to transport links" or "flats on busy noisy main road"... I'm pretty sure they're gonna be flats of some description...though the view of the Loxley from there is appauling, the factory next door stinks to high heaven and the road is busy 24/7...they've put a concrete pipe in the ground that you could drive a car through, so something big's going up there for sure. sammysowls 18-02-2005, 10:20 there are flats for sure as for the chimmy not sure but the big concrete pipe thats been put in is for the main sewer connection that runs under holme lane as for the state of the river behind this as been like that for years you would think the hillsborugh trust and council would do something about this as they did clean hills corner up a while ago Magneteer 19-02-2005, 15:56 All the machinery which is operating at the mo, is for laying new sewage pipe. It is basically a boring machine, which cuts through the earth below the surface, eliminating the need to dig trenches and therefore keeping the roads open etc. New sections of concrete pipe are then inserted into the opening and jacked forward with a hydraulic ram until it reaches the next vertical shaft giving a new section of main sewer with minimal disruption. |
