Hiya, I would like to ask for my landlord to build a front gate / door in front of my ground floor flat for security purpose. (or for my better sense of security.. GRIN!!)

Before getting to my place, I need to walk through a staircase from the road. So what to do is simply to add a wooden/metal gate for the staircase. I have no idea how much it will cost. Could any expert give me some idea? so that I can have a better negotiation with my landlord.

Cheers...

Is this (http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/product/product.jsp?CATID=151239&entryFlag=false&PRODID=141672) the sort of thing you mean? Around £70.
But then you can easily spend a few hundred getting your own wrought iron gate made to measure.

Will it fit in a doorway or are posts needed as well? Another £30 each.

Sundries & labour??? If wall fitting, it could just be an hour on site. If holes have to be dug for posts it could stretch to 4 hours. £20/hour?

Painting? Hammerite/brushes/cleaner/time ... £30+?

Lock & keys? £20?

Think carefully about access/escape in the event of fire????
Can a landlord do this?
