View Full Version : Girls/women play PS2 PC games too?

i've just noticed on the replies to recent threads that females seem to be playing games too - i didn't think this was the case and think that it's really good news as far as i'm concerned - makes gaming more popular and therefore will ultimately mean more games being made

i don't think female gaming was very popular before? maybe it's games like the Sims2 that attract you ladies?? and then you get into other types/genres of gaming...

anyhow, i'd be interested to read your thoughts!

Driving and fighting for me

Rubbish with guns. Like stuff that requires some figuring out though.

Fave game ever? Micromachines on Megadrive  not fussed on the PS2 version. Graphics (environments) are too complex for tiny stuff that moves fast :(

Is manhunt worth sticking with, I'm getting a bit bored with it TBH.

I have a friend who I used to live with who writes for OPSM2, and for a feature a few months ago he had to go speed dating, and talk ONLY about games all night, and then see how many matches he got!

Before he went out we were all coming out with all sorts of terrible chat up lines like "can I press your buttons?"

He did something right though, because he got quite a few matches (although I think he must have cheated a bit!) and found several of the girls were very happy to discuss games!

I'm terrible at shooting and fighting games, I just don't like them, but I love puzzle games and racing (colin McRae rally 2005!). Have on going tournaments that continue whenever me and my brother go and visit parents/each other!

Am a big fan of games, and it's great to see there's so many other ladies out there who are too... none of my mates are, which sometimes make me feel a bit sad...

I love simulation games on the PC - The Sims, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon... I love building stuff and making pots of cash! Also am a big fan of RPG's - the whole exploring stuff with massive sword, smiting enemies really appeals to me!

My boyfriend has got a PS2, which I find entertaining for only short periods. I have fun driving around, mowing people down and shooting coppers in GTA San Andreas, but as it a long term game, it holds limited appeal. And have yet to find a decent simulation type game on it... It just doesn't feel right not having a mouse!! That said, I did quite enjoy final fantasy X on the ps1, but even that felt a bit, well, platformy...

Following the other thread on online RPG's, I have just ordered from Amazon World of Warcraft, which should hopefully be here by tommorrow... Hurrah!

And as it is half term, that's my marking plans out of the window...

Is anyone else playing WOW? Let me know your gaming name, so you can protect me when I'm online...:D

I love playing on my game consoles! I love final fantasy and as they are released once every blue moon i will try out other games. Has anyone played Mashed on the PS2? It is so much fun to play as a group and lads hate it if you beat them cos its supposed to be for boys not girls.

Hi Miss,

I’m playing WOW at the moment…

I’m a Horde player with a Ork Warrior named Badgroth and my wife has an undead Warlock named Andayus (I think I spelt the name right LoL).

PM me when you get online and maybe we can help you out.

Also my nephew is playing a Free online RPG I will get the name of the sight if anyone is interested.

I have a PS2, just completed san andreas and have started on THUG2. Tekkon is my favourite and have just bought tekken tag (but dont have enough controllers or the multi tap yet). Also love PC games mostly colin mcrae rally and others. I think the misconception that ALL girls hate console games comes from bad experiences that most boys (or their mates) have had at some point with controlling girlfriends.

You're right its great beating boys at 'their' games :)

I'm complete rubbish at any game that requires any sort of co-ordination, and anyway have always found the shoot-em-up type games really boring.

BUT I've always loved Adventure games - like the daddy of them all, 'Colossal Cave'. When I discovered my first computer adventure game, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! (Yes, I was very sad ..... :P )

I loved exploring the landscape, all the rooms, etc and mapping them, and discovering the treasures. The Level 9 games for the BBC Micro were so detailed for the time they were fantastic - loads of objects to find and puzzles to solve. The only irritation was when a persistent dwarf kept turning up trying to kill me!

There's got to be some intellectual challenge for me to enjoy a game.

Now whatever happened to virtual reality adventure gaming?

Virtual Reality died years ago, way back in the 1990s where it belongs

Oooh, harsh, Rich!

I don't care, I thought virtual reality gaming was a brilliant idea - I still look forward to it returning in some form or other - preferably in a more stylish way than the awful glove 'n helmet combination that was so shudder-inducing.

I'm thinking Star Trek-style holodecks?

Oh, I'm realising I'm still sad ..... :suspect:

Ah if only more girls I know played games :)

Most I know would just switch off if I started going all nostalgic about text adventures, and typing in games and pokes from speccy mags.

When I was a kid I used to write my own text adventures on my C64.

I used to mainly type in swear words when I got frustrated...
"Don't know s**t"...

The main culprit game-wise being hitchhikers guide to the galaxy on the Amiga... I never got more than 3 lines into the game before a intergalactic super highway went through my home. Grrr....

Lovin it!

i had a rating of 1850 on speed chess (similar to my blitz rating)which isn't bad but i have rarely played over the years so i plan to get 2000+ :D

I used to write my own text adventures for Speccy. mostly based on top late 80s/early 90s fantasy TV game show "Knightmare".

Try the online RPG games like "World of Warcraft" or "Star Wars Galaxies" or if you genuinely prefer just text, then run a search for "MUD" (multiple user domain) online and see what comes up...

Funny tale but my kids only young and kept getting stuck on psx2 Spyro - so naturally you help them out - i'd pack 'em off to bed and sit and get the over the 'task' they were stuck on!! I got quite addicted to the game so bought my own memory card and started my own game - hubby thought me 'barmy' until the monthly Visa statement came in at 50% less than usual!! LOL

I had been spending all my spare time with the game whilst they at school and nursery that never did idle shopping!!

Excellent!!

The best games tho are the simulation games for pc like sims , sims2, rollercoaster tycoon e.t.c there so adictive and im sure many girls like me would agree. the best ps2 games are probs simpsons hit and run, driving games, dancemat(hmm!!), SSX & sims bustin out although it is nowher near as good as the pc versions. I find the pc games i play are much easier than the ps2 games does aneyone agree??

I prefer the depth you get in PC games - i find 'typical' PS2 games pretty boring after a while plus there's the better graphics you get on PC games. PS2 is good though cuz of the plug and play aspect - play on big screens etc

I'd agree that PC games are usually larger and graphically more impressive, but there are plenty of 'deep' console games - take any of the Final Fantasy series for example. I also believe consoles do better for arcade-style games... take the fighting game genre (such as Soul Calibur 2) - they never seem to work properly on a PC i.m.o.

My favorite game is Giants Citizen Kabuto it has everything, my young grandson has just finished it without any cheats hes so clever, we have to fight for the computer. we've recently got a playstation, and about 20 games but I cant seem to get into that like the PC games. ive been game-playing since before the mega drive!

I've played computer games as long as I remember and all my friends did as well. Never thought it was odd for us girls to be in to computer games. I don't play them as much now though, I prefer things like Mario Karts and Crazy Taxi to shoot 'em ups.

Do you remember loading your tape in the deck, waiting 30 minutes for the game to load and then finding it had crashed? Used to drive me mad!

I have always been a big fan of GTA. Its great.

I'm not the biggest driving game fan; but I love Championship Manager games, Sims on the Pc, Residential Evil on the Gamecube and silly games like Mario Party on the gamecube. Eternal Darkness was quite a good one as well.

Fifa footy games are always good, but I am better on the PC! Not to mention Tiger Woods PGA Tour. I am the champion of that game if anyone wants to try their luck! Eagles galore.

Oh...err, I do still like Barbies.

I've just rediscovered my love of computer games. Been a long time.. maybe 13 years or so. I used to be totally addicted to platform games (Rainbow Islands, Bubble Bobble, Chuckie Egg etc).. then I got into Street Fighter and Sonic and then I got an N64 and played Mario World/Kart to death!

But since I got rid of my N64 I've barely touched a computer game - apart from the fab SSX at a friends house, which is making me consider buying a new console (why don't they have SSX on the PC?!)

I just started playing SIMS2 tho.. how addictive!? Being able to add custom designed houses and Sims from the internet is sooo cool too.

It'll give me something to do over the dark winter nites!
