Oooh... Looks exciting! No doubt will scare the pants off me tho...

I always found it rather interesting that lots of people committed suicide when they first heard the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds as they thought it was real.

Can you imagine that happening now? Perhaps we're all getting a little to cynical...

It's a shame you don't get to see the aliens in the trailer, but I guess that would spoil the moment when you do in the cinema.

It was great how everyone panicked when they did the radio show, I don't think it would happen now.

Yeah... If Speilberg's doing it, they may look like ET... Did you ever get to see the aliens in close encounters?

As long as they don't look anything like the aliens in Alien, I'll be fine. They ARE scary... I have the books to the Alien Series, and can't help thinking, what if...?

I'm so easily led, its sad really...

I wish they would make a faithful production as close as possible to the original H.G.Wells book. I wonder if the invaders machines float, as in the 1950s film or as in the original book are walking tripod machines. The original book is set in Victorian / Edwardian Britain, which for me gives it a really unusual quality. Cant stand it. Everything set in U.S. with perfect smile white teeth glamour Hollywood actors. Or am I just jealouse?

There has been a rival version made by a far smaller production company that was filmed in Canada and the UK and will be released around the same time. It stays faithful to the excellent novel and I believe the production company is called Pendragon.

Dear Carmine. You are a star. I hope you are not winding me up. For many many years I have dreamt of such a film being made. Good! its not Hollywood. A small company? I bet this is going to be by far more superiour to the Hollywood versions. I cant believe an attempt at the book version has never been made before.

It'd be good if it were done in a sort of "Future Victorian", like LXG was.

The Spielberg one, how much are you betting the "evil aliens" are going to be called "Mustafa" or similar.

Those floating flat iron things in the 50's film were dire, and that woman who screamed constantly from beginning to end, was so anoying, but thats what women did in "horror" films in the 50's.

The problem with setting it in Victorian times is that we would be practically defenceless and at the aliens mercy, bearing in mind this has been made in the US they won't want that, otherwise how will they be able to save the world (again) ?

I remember being fascinated by the artwork that came with the WOTW LP, the picture where they had built the giant underground city powered by a big waterwheel was my faviourite. Can you see those pictures anywhere online ?

Edit : I found it : http://www.geofftaylor.btinternet.co.uk/pagewotwbravenewworld.html
I would like to see this in a film, I'm sure special effects can do it these days.

A sad fact is that the smaller production will probably be far superior, but will flop at the box office or be a straight to dvd affair... Remember a couple of years back with Robin Hood: Prince of Theives and the other Robin Hood movie? From what I remember, it was regarded as much better, but never had the success of PoT. Think Patric Bergen was in it...

The same thing happened with Dangerous Liaisons
