I'm just about to get my fab new PC and wondered if there were any new RPG games due to be released in the Baulders Gate mould or have there been any decent RPG games released over the past couple of years

I played Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind, they were good ...

Dungeon Siege was pretty good. There's supposed to be a sequel coming out too.

If you like Star Wars, then I really enjoyed Knights of the Old Republic. I have it for the Xbox, but its also out for the PC. Again, a sequel to that has just come out which is pretty much more of the same.

If you like online RPG's and have broadband, then I would highly reccommend you try World of Warcraft.

There's a new sequel to Morrowind in development called Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The screenshots for this look rather tasty....

Hopefully thats enough to be going on with....

I really miss the old skool games, like Dungeon Master, Chaos Strikes Back, Eye Of the Beholder and the like from the days of the Amiga... I did find a site where I could download them, but they're pretty substandard. Must have been spoilt over the past couple of years! Do any games like this exist anymore (obviously with better graphics) - you know in a maze, and stuff?

Also, used to love the Monkey Island series, but I've found the later ones with the new fancy graphics have lost alot of their playability...

Can anyone help?

PS That World of Warcraft looks brilliant... How long does it take to download? I do have broadband, but I don't want it to tie up my pc for hours on end...

World of Warcraft has just come out and I think you will like it, it’s like playing a single player game online with loads of other people!

I’ve only got dial-up at the moment and it still plays good, Amazon & Play.com have the best prices I have found for your PC games but if anyone knows any better places please let me know.

I’m also playing Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, it’s a good game but you have to overlook some poor programming.

World of Warcraft takes quite a while to download on 512kb ADSL. Took my mate two days to download it - its across 4 CD's so probably looking at near enough 3GB in size. Alternatively, you can buy it from the shops now. I believe it retails as low as £19 now.

Can't think of any old-skool style RPG's released or in development, off the top of my head. Perhaps there might be some dedicated fans doing updates to Eye of the Beholder etc - there are with several retro games, but I can't find anything on Google.

With regards to Monkey Island - if you liked the first couple, did you ever play Full Throttle, Sam and Max, and The Dig? They're quite old but you can still get hold of em. Full Throttle in particular was very short but a really good game. I never thought Sam and Max were as funny as Monkey Island, but they do have a cult following.

For more modern games, try Grim Fandango. It's ace.

Cheers! Think I'll check out World of Warcraft to buy...

Grim Fandango looks interesting too... Nice to see those lovely people at Lucasarts have not lost their sense of humour!

What with the internet, and Sky I'll never need to go out again!!

My PC is not top spec and it took less than a hour to install the game!

The patch I had to down load took over 2 hours but that’s the price you have to pay when using dial-up.

Have just took the plunge and ordered it from Amazon... Ooh, am excited. Which probably means my computer won't be able to run it.

I have recently bought The Sims 2 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, and they run, so do you think World of Warcraft will be ok?

It's quite a scaleable game so you should be able to run it even on a "relatively" low spec machine. If Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 runs fine with all graphics options maxed out then World of Warcraft should run well on medium settings. If you want to switch everything right up you'll obviously need a PC to match that.

Either way, I'm sure you'll be able to play the game just fine.

P.S - Get a copy of Grim Fandango too! ;)

Ooooh, fab!

I'll keep you posted when I get it, so if any of you come across me playing it, you may take pity on me and not waste me... Although, if I've ever offended anyone with any postings, I'm sure I'll be annihalated pretty quickly!

Are online playing games as good as games played on your own??

i just can't imagine how it all works - i mean in Baulders Gate for example you were given tasks to do etc but if somebody was given a task to do in a MMORPG (i think it's called) and completed it surely that'd mean that it couldn't be done again!? i mean once you kille d abaddie they'd stay dead?!?!!?

i've heard Eve online and Lineage are supposed to be good?

I think playing these games online requires a subscription?

The only problem you may find is that you have to wait for a character to re-sporn, some quests are not possible at low levels unless you team up with other players. The best thing is that you have to accept a duel for another player to be able to kill you. If you ever played PSO then don’t worry about those annoying people because you can put them on ignore and you don’t receive any of their chat.

Anyway if you chose a Horde player I have an Ork named Badgroth running around and I will help you out when you get out of your starting zone (assuming that you are not an Ork and I’ve left my starting zone). The staring zones are different for different races (some do share starting zones) and are designed to help you get to grips with the game without getting your ass kicked every 10 seconds.

When you get online send me a PM and maybe we cam meet up.

Fabulously... I've played it so much, I have a sore back from sitting up on the pc!

I originally started as a human paladin, but was totally weak and got my ass kicked all the time. However, have started again as a night elf and am a hunter, which means I can have pets to attack other people and use both a bow and arrow AND a sword, whoch means I am dead hard...

Would recommend. It really is fabulous. You can also get other players to come and help you, although ladies watch out for dodgy european men trying it on during the in game "chat".

Oh, if you are going to buy it, get yourself a comfy chair!!

I must admit I'm tempted to try it. I'm generally not into RPGs but I have been a big fan of Blizzard games for since Warcraft 1.

Hmmm... just clocked Knights of the Old Republic II (not as good as the first one) but am not sure whether my PC will actually run WOW...

Looks fantastic though!

Um... Not at all sure, to be honest. I like the sound of both though!
