 Sorry folks I need a mega rant.

The Marks and Spencers online sale this year was an utter disgrace and my scenario appears to be fairly common.

On Christmas Eve I ordered three items totalling £15.50. Three days after Christmas one item was cancelled (despite still showing as in stock) and a week later another item was cancelled (despite also still showing as in stock). The e-mail they send out implies that for items to be cancelled due to being out of stock, someone else has to have ordered your item at exactly the same time as you (utter rubbish). This appears to have happened to hundreds, if not thousands of customers who have now been given compensation in the form of vouchers.

I was charged £10.50 on 28th December for two items and this came out of my account. After one of these was cancelled my new total was £6.75. I haven't received a refund of the difference. I've now called three times and been told it's my banks fault, they definitely only charged me £6.75 on 30th December. They now want me to send in a copy of my bank statement, at my own cost (in addition to the 0845 phone calls). I've been offered no compensation whatsoever. I'm probably going to have spent £3.75 by the time this is resolved but it's the principle of being charged for an item I never received

That's weird, I normally have great experiences with M&S!

Hope you manage to get it resolved, and I know what you mean about the principle, I would keep on at them too!

Maybe you will get some compensation too? (eventually!)

Good luck!

This is not just a cock-up, it's huge steaming organic cock-up with added hand-picked incompetence and a farce garnish.

Thanks Weenireeni, I'm surprised to hear you've had positive experiences. The Moneysavingexpert forum has a thread with 600-odd posts, many stating that there were similar problems with the summer sale. Some people placed orders for over £100 worth of goods which have slowly had more and more items cancelled each day until there was nothing left to deliver. There are debates over whether most of the stock actually existed in the first place. It wasn't a sale, it was a lottery.

the same happened to me both in the summer and winter sale. I cant understand how they can confirm orders and then cancel them, in the summer sale none of my order turned up it was well over £100 they never even let me knoe i had to get in touch with them, they assured me the problem wouldn't happen again and sent me a £ 10 voucher.
The winter sale was a joke again I ordered loads even getting up early to do it , all was confirmed then a few days later i got an email warning that some thing were not available anfd to check my account, they wanted to send me 2 items out of a total of 16 needless to say i just cancelled the order.

Hi

I ordered goods to the value of £230, the money was out of my account for over 7 days I then received an e-mail saying the goods were out of stock and the money was paid back, this must be an excellent revenue stream for Marks and Spencer considering the level of online trade they do. I have asked M&S for an explanation but 14 days later I am still waiting for any contact.

How annoying! Glad I didn't order anything.

But if I had, I would be writing direct to John Dixon (http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/node/n/46013031?ie=UTF8&mnSBrand=core), Director of M & S Direct, copied to Stuart Rose, Chief Executive, Marks & Spencer, at the Registered Office (http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/browse.html/ref=sc_fe_c_8_0_45999031_1?ie=UTF8&node=46005031&no=45999031&mnSBrand=core&me=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM)address.

As I know from experience, you don't necessarily get a response from the big cheese direct, but the fact that you're indignant enough to take the trouble to write to them usually gets somebody lower down the food chain to get their wotsit in gear.

Marks and Sparks were featured on Watchdog tonight, but I missed it.

If you don't have catch up TV it will be on the BBC Iplayer later on.

Bummer everyone said they'd reported them but I missed it, thanks Dozy will have a look for it.

saw some of it on watchdog, an old lady was sent a footstool instead of an armachair after waiting 18 months - there were quite a lot of complaints but didn't catch most of it
