I have been getting lots of phishing emails claiming to be from " Barney smith citibank" I had not even heard of this organisation so obviously have not replied or clicked on the links. It is a real company though (searched on google). I also have some for "worldbank". The wierd thing is the to address on the emails is not my address it just starts with the same letters. Has anyone else had these emails? does anyone know how they are reaching me when they incorrectly addressed?

I get a hundred scam emails a day, and loads from banks from all over the world. Your email has been farmed to the scammers.
The reason why the recipient email starts with the same letters as yours is because they will be sending the scam emails to their entire list of email recipients in sections of the alphabet, maybe 50 at a time. As they will be in alphabetic order, the start is close to yours.
The rest of the recipients, including yourself may be blind copied, which is why it doesn't say it is directly for you.
Never be tempted to click a remove link on one of these emails as it is often just confirmation that it is a live email address, and you will get more and more spam.
