Can anyone tell me why my monitor screen keep's going black and the icons come very large. It started when I tried to customise my desktop, I now have the screen changing when I start it up or when I restart my computer. By going to control panel and display, I can put it back, but after a time it does it again, why? is there some way I can lock it to hold it in the same mode all the time. I would be gratefull if some computer expert could help me please. Thank's a lot Hal. Evans. :? :?

Is it doing this following a reboot or does it occur while in use?

It's probably the resolution. I'm not quite sure why it keeps changing back though.

To Disillusioned,
Thanks for replying, it is doing it when I reboot or after the computer has been closed down.

To be honest, if it is changing and holding while in use, but keeps blanking out altogether, it may be that your Graphics card is faulty.

Just a couple more questions, what operating system are you using, and roughly how old is your PC.

I am using a pentium 2.2 and the system is three month's old. Hal. Evans. :?

It is more or less an absolute caertainty its your graphics card. If you have a warrenty, now is the time to use it, if not, you should have a recovery disk, as most computers now have all componants built onto the motherboard, and the recovery disk will have all drivers etc on it.

If you havew any futher problems, email me and I will try to talk you through it in a bit more detail.

My email address is pugfaced1@yahoo.com.

One more usful tip though, if you right click on my Computer and check your hardware device manager, by clicking properties and device manager. If there is a yellow exclamation mark next to your monitor, it is a definate that your card is a fault. As I say, email me if you have any further queries or questions.

I changed the background picture on my desktop, and in doing so I must have clicked something else. I can put it back and when I go to display appearances it say's extra large black and that is what it keeps going black to when I start my computer.   Hal. Evans.

hmm, you've turned active desktop on with the looks of it... if you want the picture to still appear, right click the .jpg/.bmp and "open with.." then select Internet Explorer, when the picture displays right click it and then click "set as wallpaper" :)
