A customer has just shown me a copy of last weeks star With the article about closing pubs.

It contains a list of pubs no longer around - But it names my pub The Royal Standard as one of them!?!

I know it's not easy to fight your way through the roadworks outside at the moment, but closed, we're definately not.

I thought we were quite at the weekend, now i know why!!!!!!

Anyone know who's best to contact?

can't you contact the writer who wrote it, they usually print there name at the bottom, failing that i would contact the help desk at the star, good luck

Anyone heard about the Enfield nr the arena closing down? It's bad enough losing good locals without the Star making it worse. Had dealings with them printing totally inaccurate stories before, just took it straight to the press complaints commision. You should sue em for loss of trade due to wrong facts printed.

Maybe you can get some free advertising out of them as compensation.

I would threaten them with legal action for loss of earnigns or business and then ask for a written apology and an advertisement aswell in there. Or just actually take them to court and make somesort of record of what you will have lost as a result.

especially of late, accuracy has never been the Star's greatest concern!

Sue them for what? - getting a piece of information wrong. Do you try to sue everyone who gives you wrong information?

Even if it was possible to sue the Star over this, would that be at all a reasonable response?

A lot of people take things in news papers as fact. I would certainly consider taking anyone to court who cost me and money and/or damaged my business.

The list of pubs closed includes the Old Light Horseman - which if my memory serves closed when Penistone Road was widened - which must be nigh on 20 years ago.

Good to see our local paper up to date.

Good to see our local paper up to date.Tell me about it - they still advertise a regular gig that I used to do (the place closed over a year ago)

And yes, I did contact them and ask them to withdraw it...........but its still there !!!

Libel and slander are very expensive things to take through the courts - sadly only the very rich are normally able to do so...

Cheers for your help & comments.

Will try to contact the Star helpdesk tomorrow as my old computer won't let me email the reporter himself.

Ta again.

They implicated my name in with the legal action against Sheff Wed supporters when I merely use the same website...I got an apology and an interview which cleared my name.

They have already printed an apology to Dempseys, there was Royal Standard and one other I think that I thought were still open. Nice 1/4 page on Wednesdays edition food and drink section might make you feel better!
