I know this came out last year but i have just seem it and was wondering what my fellow forum breatheren think?

The film Elephant - is it a work of genius or a big pile of crap?

I think its a complete work of genius - there isn't much plot - its a camera just sailing round a American school campus. We see the same things from different angles and it occasionally picks up characters and exposes them to us. I think it is shot to look like a videogame 'shoot em up' as the camera just meanders along like the persective of a PS2 game. The relevance of this will became clear if you watch it but i don't want to give too much of it away as I hope you will all check it out for yourselves
The title is (I think) referece to a proverb in which blind men determine the essence of an elephant by touching a part of the elephant - of course they only describe the part they feel and fail to see the whole picture- again this is totally relevant when you see the movie. There are loads of other bits that raise questions - one of the kids quote a Macbeth line 'so fair and foul a day have not seen' another character won't wear shorts for games this is not explained.
I think this is a totally facinating film that won the awards at Canne. For me it totally emphasises a direction which films can take - it has an element of magic realism which reminded me of Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. What do you think?
