Waverly is a brand new residential district which is being built on reclaimed land which used to belong to the coal board. It is close to Handsworth and the Sheffield Parkway, but is actually part of Rotherham.
Waverley is an old name resurected, there is a pub called The Waverley on the road from Brinsworth to Treeton, and there was a pit called Waverley I believe near where the airport is now

There is a pub at brinsworth that is called the waverly (or certainly used to be) it is on new brindsworth road off the b6067. its between the three magpies pub and rotherham road.
Many loacals refer to the area as 'behind the waverly'
I always thought Waverley was at the top of High Hazels Park at Darnall, there used to be Waverley pit, I think, and the road at the bottom of the park near to Darnall is called Waverley Road, it would extend to Treeton, Catcliffe, maybe even Handsworth where the roundabout is.

There is a Waverley Lane that runs parallel to the parkway at Handsworth, close by the new Barratts housing estate. The new Waverly village that is being planned lies between Handsworth, Catcliffe and Treeton.
Isn't it close to where Orgreave Colliery used to be. Opposite side of Morrisons / Woolworths to the Parkway at Catcliffe?
Whalley is near Blackburn Lancashire
