I just bought a matress and allegedly it doesn't need turning.

Probably will do anyway.

You have no idea how far off the mark that is. :hihi:

Although the 'crumpled' look went out with Sonny & Tubs, I like to think I'm keeping that era alive in my own way (without the mint green suits and white moccasins that is).

Frank Zappa was once in an episode of Miami Vice too...

I turn mine every week when I change the sheets - I alternate flipping it from top to toe with a side to side flip. I draw the curtains when I do it though as it takes full on body wrestling to turn it over & I don't want to scare the neighbours:gag:

I flip my matress every time I change my bottom sheet. Every week or 10 days. I understood that you have to do this for hygene to stop build up of bugs, and to stop the springs and matress from sagging into one position too much. The matress is still quite lively after a decade.

Every 2 weeks. Top to bottom, followed by bottom to top then flip the mattress over and the same that side.

I used to work with a girl who was dead obsessive about her mattress. She used to vacuum it every week to get rid of dead skin cells.

I don't know where people find the time to do things like that?

I've got a friend with a dust allergy who was advised to do this by her doctor

So that it gets worn evenly and you don't end up with lumps and bumps in it where you have laid for 10 plus years.

About as much as so called "self cleaning cookers" clean themselves. If you want your matress to last...
.... turn it.

Is there any point in turning a memory foam mattress considering most are comprised of a hard foam base with x-amount of inches of memory foam, down one side only?

Not a bad idea. It also reduces the number of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:House_Dust_Mite.jpg) (which feed on the dead skin cells) and removes their faeces (which can cause severe allergic reactions.)

People here often put their mattresses and bedding outside (particularly in wintertime) for a quarter of an hour or so to 'air' it and to kill the bugs.

Vac every time I change the bed. Turning it is a different story. It is so heavy, it takes THREE to turn it, top to bottom, and to flip it over!!! I have to wait until I have some volunteers, usually you, you and you!!!!!!

you should rotate it on months that have 30 days, and flip it on months that have 31. February is to let your back recover.

(Don't flip it if it has an attached pillow top)
