I just bought a Samsung pebble 22 inch TFT monitor from pc world sheffield, however, I have decided i just don't like it: as tft's go its is good but compared to my ancient Dell/Sony ancient CRT monitor which professionals still use for Cad is just doesn't cut it. For gaming, there just doesn't seem to be any depth, the whites are washed out and there is considerable back light bleed . However as I bought it home with me rather than on mail order I think i cannot take it back under their returns policy. Is this the case or could they take it back for refund under a good will gesture?

You are not wrong.

Are you sure that there is no fault with it?

... or that a salesman did not claim something that was not correct?

How long have you had it?

Why should you not be able to take it back?

mmm, now i come to think of it, but surely they would just replace it, anyway, any other goods can be returned , why not monitors, are PC world within their rights or pulling a fast one.

if its not fit for purpose you have every right to return within X number of days (think its within 3 or 4 days ...something like that)

'Fit For Purpose' means however, you would have had to talk to a person at the store, told them what you want it for, and they woud have had to say "yes, this will do the job" so you had bought it under their advisement.

Just bought a Samsung 19" monitor from PC World myself. Just wired it all up as per the instructions. I am not totally happy with it. The text appears slightly blurred when viewing. This is both when on-line and using Word. I have tried various adjustments but it doesn't get any better. Any advice before I unplug it and take it back (faulty as opposed to not fit for purpose)

If you are using windows XP you can turn on cleartype (it's on by default on Vista), see here:

Can I guess that it's hooked up to an ageing graphics card via VGA?

Are you sure you have set windows to the monitors native resolution? anything other than that and it will look strange.
Whats the model if you are not sure and I can have a look.

Native resolution

sounds like your running in the resolution your old CRT was which is why the new one looks blurred.

By all means take it back, but if it's working properly the shop doesn't have to take it. (And PC World can be a bit funny going on past experience.)

you should also try adjusting the refresh rate. this wont change the rate at which the monitor refreshes the panel but will change the rate at which the computer sends the signal. the box should state the best reolution / native settings.

without the correct settings my 19" Philips looks atroteous, with them its stunning!

My mate just bought one of these for his TV and he's happy with it, he got it from play.com I think. I'd check you've got it set up for the best viewing before taking it back...and in the future I wouldn't shop at PC world. Investin a local sheffield business like moonlight computers (if they sell monitors that is) instead.

First check that your resolution for the screen is correct.
pc world have a 28 day rule read your paperwork carefully before approaching them.
Staff are not allowed to tell you about the 28 day rule, its a sacking offence,or it used to be.
Ps, not sure if its still the same but faulty items used to be exchanged for refubished, even if an item never worked on day one.

Bought exact same monitor myself only the 20" version. At first it was blury but I had to do alot of tweaking with the drivers that came with the monitor, its now running and its alot better than my previous 19" tft.

they only give you a receipt, nothing else, even the manufacturers warranty isn't stamped

My feeling is that the screen resolutions arnt right, what have you got them set to?
Also, lcd screens are quite dissapointing when your used to a crt monitor, which are much better, its just they weigh a ton and dont leave room on your desk for your cuppa.

sorry, i thought you were asking about skipscaps 19 inch monitor, my samsung is set at its native resolution, 1600 X 1850. As i say its
good for a tft, but I would like to keep my crt 21 inch and return the sammy, then in a couple of years time, buy a reduced cost PVA panel one, oh, and it would be a 20 inch i find 22 to much to take in!
