I've just dropped my laptop and broken the screen :(

Can anyone advise whether it would be worth repairing, or if it would be better to buy a new laptop? It's only a few months old, but it was a cheap one, I think I paid about £400 for it brand new.

Is there anywhere in Sheffield that could repair it for a reasonable price?

I've also still got my old laptop (not that old, less than 2 years) which also has a broken screen, but I'd be more interested in selling that one than repairing it I think.

ball park? Approx 150 - 200 screen replaced and fitted...that will or should be a pretty standard quote -

If I could get it done for £150 that wouldn't be too bad, although it depends on how much I'd get for it if I sold it for parts.

Do you know of anywhere I could take it to?

Whats the make and model? Screens are very easy to replace, usually only 4 screws to take the plastic surround off and 4 more to remove the screen.

It's a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo PA1510.

Just been to Real Electronics and they reckon £260 to get it done!

Ring service source and get a quote for the screen, it's simple to fit, i would do it for a small fee if you really don't want to. Dont forget to add VAT and postage.

Cheers for the link, I just called them and apparantly there are 3 different types of screen and to find out which one it needs I'd have to take the cover off to get the part number.

The cheapest is £225 including the VAT and delivery, and the others are about £250, so it looks like it's not going to be worth the hassle. I might as well sell this for whatever I can get and buy a new one I reckon.

The price comes as no great shock. You could keep an eye out on Ebay for ones that a faulty but have a good screen.
£50 here for your broken one!

I've just had a look on Ebay and found this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fujitsu-Siemens-Amilo-Pi1505-Pa1510-15-4-Inch-Screen_W0QQitemZ180205316050QQihZ008QQcategoryZ315 69QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I phoned the seller who assured me it would fit my machine, and it's a much more reasonable price at £155 including delivery.

neeeeeeeeeek, how much would you charge to fit it for me if I get it?

What's the ident (serial number) of your machine? normally 12 digits long on a sticker on the bottom.
And what is the FSC part number of the screen the bloke is selling? I can't access ebay but if you give me the number I might be able to confirm if it's compatible or not.

My serial number is YSLR218586.

I will have to phone the seller again to get the part number because it's not on the auction, it's just listed as "Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi1505 Pa1510 15.4' Inch Screen"

These are the 2 screens that will fit.
Sorry it's a picture but it was easier!

I spoke to them again and for some reason they couldn't get the part number, but they said if I give them the number off mine they could check it's the right one. Apparantly it has to be the number off the back of the screen, not the serial number.

Interchangable with those models so should be fine.

Does it actually make any difference which screen it is? Would they not both work?

I can get info from serial numbers but doubt he can. If the screen is from either of the machines he mentioned then it will work.

If the screen he was offering was from the same model laptop then yes but it's not. They are interchangable with those 2 machine he listed so yes, it will work.

Worst comes to worst, you could use the laptop as a PC... use it with the lid closed, and a keyboard, mouse and monitor attached.
