does anyone know if i could get a cheap second hand dslr in Sheffield.

initially i was thinking to buy D40x but then with that price would it be better of if i buy a second hand dslr like D70 or d50 with similar price that would give better picture quality and function ?

any advice ?

Why would you want to buy a previous generation in preference to a current model? The D40X takes produces excellent quality pictures, better than the older cameras, the only advantage the older models have is that they will autofocus with screwdrive lenses.

how disadvantage will it be without the autofocus with screwdrive lenses ? does it mean i am limited to chose wider lenses ?

No, you are limited to lenses that have focus motors built in. I don't know what the Nikon term for the tech is.

You should be able to pick up a very good D70 or D70s with kit lens for approx £350, don't know how much choice you will get in Sheffield, so you may have to buy online.
