And if a remake is planned, let's just pray a method actor isn't hired to play Douglas Bader .... :suspect:

Sorry for my lapse of taste :gag:

Heartbreak Ridge

and worthy of a special mention,

It's called Tora! Tora! Tora!, and is a great film. Or for Pearl Harbor with decent love scenes, watch From Here to Eternity.

Starship Troopers. - Veerhoeven revels in Heinlein's unselfconciously gung-ho teen novel - with guts and gusto and adheres remarkably closely to the book. Great, great film. One of the best made...

Das Boot - Tense, Icy and Dramatic. Amazing performances from the submariners.

I've just thought of a couple of gems - real Saturday matinee films.
Attack! with Jack Palance and Lee Marvin.
Hell is for Heros with Steve McQueen, James Coburn and ?Bobby Darrin.

Good book, with many sub-issues. "Somewhat" right wing, but entertaining, and thought provoking, in an easily accessible package.

Entertaining film, yes, but not great IMO.

But, "adheres remarkably closely to the book", did you read the same book as me?

Especially the 'proper' German language version with all the extra footage.

Has anyone seen "The one that got away"? I've only seen it the once but it was a great film.

Cetainly was, but of course, being an ex US navy officer, most of his works were a "little" right wing and/or militaristic.

The noticable exception being "Stranger in a Strange Land", probably his best book anyway.

Now that'd make a good film, but of course, not a war film. ;)

So, what about "Glory" seem to recall that was pretty good.

(There, back on topic). :D
