How old are the kittens and do you know what breed or mix they are?

Mad half hours are perfectly normal with kittens so I'm not sure that you can stop them, but there's a lot that you can do to kitten-proof your home so that they can play in peace without destroying things.

If they're chewing wires then get either pin your wires up to something or spray them with bitter apple so that chewing becomes a lot less tasty. If they're going behind things then get hardboard and block up the gaps that allow them to go behind the most important of places.

Get them a climbing frame that's got lots of things to interest them and tie lots of dangly things that they can chew off door handles, bannisters and anywhere else you can, and rub both climbing frame and dangly toys with catnip.

As for wallpaper, the only thing that you can do is to limit their availability to the space to when you can watch them then stop them physically and make sure that they know the meaning of the word 'no' as well as getting praised for playing nicely.

I agree with all thats already been said, all of my kittens have been exactly the same, its just normal behaviour for happy and healthy kittens.
I think it helps if you play with them then they are playing in an acceptable way and not just entertaining themselves.
Also when mine got to much I just put them in a safe room to calm down for a while and to give myself a break, they do grow out of it when they are a bit older, but mine still climb a lot and knock things off the sides a lot now that they don't go out so much in winter.

When my two kitten were young I made sure I played with them til they were worn out EVERY night without fail. They loved chasing a ball up and down the stairs, also we had one of those laser pens, they'd spend hours chasing the little red dot around the room, never got bored of it and such good fun too! Just make sure you don't shine it in their eyes.

Get used to it cos they won't start to settle down til they are about 2 years old.

One of my cats was a scratcher of wallpaper - but I sorted this by buying some of those scratching pads with carpet on that can be attached to the wall - it doesn't look that decorative, but he used those instead of the wallpaper.

It's called the 'mad half hour' and brace yourself- it doesnt just apply to kittens- our lot still like to let off steam at around 10:30pm (not every night and not always the same cat/cats though). We try to keep our gang amused with the panic mouse, fetch games, dangly toys and anything else they seem to show an interest in -it helps but occasionally, they still like to go mental.

A tip for you- if it's breakable, either put it somewhere where it won't get trodden on, knocked off or knocked over, or buy some blue-tack. We usually step back and out of the way when our gang are doing the wall of death around the house. Even the dog keeps out of the way!

Our baby cat Arnie is playing with the panic mouse now- Alfie the barmy bengal keeps joining in and the daft dobermutt too - pandemonium any minute now, I just know it will end in tears

One of ours had a wallpaper scratching phase, he has grown out of it now, luckily. Also we did replace the piece of wallpaper he was particularly fond of and he has more or less stopped. I think it's just normal. However the other thing that help was when they started going outside. Ours use lots of energy up running in and out of the house all day, they don't even slow down when they go through the cat flap. Are yours going to be indoor cats? The flat scratching posts that you screw to the wall can help and also help to disguise the damage. Kittens:roll:

Thankfully we havent had wallpaper skirmishes - plenty of scratching posts and what's left of my leather sofa though. Once owned a house with Contour wallpaper - never again- it is just tough enough to allow a kitten to scale up to head height without falling off.

My lot have only ever taken exception to one wallpaper in my house (and they all did, when they haven't to any other wallpaper). It had narrow vertical stripes and as soon as I realised that it was that wallpaper rather than any other I changed it and they've never touched any other.

I have (or rather HAD) a lovely tall gracious evergreen houseplant that the kittens decided was huge fun to climb up and knock over.

I've moved it to every room in the house and it's spent the past couple of weeks living in the shower cubicle, which ought to have been safe, except that we own a barmy bengal and you know what bengals are like with water? He leaps from the sink to the top of the shower, jumps into the cubicle, trashes the plant and then calmly opens the door - at which point, poor plant is fair game for Arnie or any other cats looking for a bit of mischief to get into.

Came home yesterday to find Beauty the rescue cat sitting in there with a paw full of plant!

I may have to give it the last rights and accept defeat- plants + pets don't go (for now).

We had a lovely big cheese plant when our two were young. The kittens thought it was a fabulous climbing frame! And great fun hanging off the end of the leaves! It eventually bit the dust. Poor thing.

Yes- my cat Tiffy (when she was tiny) killed my 30 year old yucca by climbing it. Her claws caused a fungal infection in the trunk and it was history within weeks.

We affectionately call mad half hour, "The wall of death" in our house. :hihi:

I was being prodded under the duvet this morning at stupid o'clock by my 12month old cat, after a few swear words, she retreated to my 3yr old sons room. I heard her climbing the safety gate and right on cue.

"Mommeeee".... yep she had woke him up instead, so we all had to get up, they are not daft are they?

Yep, wall of death in our house too. Alfie is the chief culprit and ring leader but having a 15wk old kitten in the house and a dippy year old daddy cat (charlie) takes its toll too- they wind up all the female felines and it usually ends in breakages. Alf's favorite trick is still to leap onto the top of the wardrobe, rustle about and make as much noise as possible so that we wake up just as he launches himself off the wardrobe onto the bed/us/the dog so that one or all of us has to get up and see to him. Monster.

My old girl Merlin was named after the Rolls Royce aero engine for her ability to get airborne and go round the room at mantelpiece height on her wall of death- it's not a problem, it's a design feature!

We got our kitten when he was four weeks old (the breeder said he was eight weeks, obviously needed some fag money) and he regularly goes mental.

We called him ASBO because of it :)
