View Full Version : Party Venue, Room Hire, Megathread....
Please read through this thread carefully as almost all, party/room/function questions have already been answered here!!
anybody know of any pubs with a room to hire out for an evening, preferably in the South of Sheffield.
Thanks
It's not in the South, but from what I remember, the Earl Marshall on East Bank Road (not far from town!) has that facility (Tel: 272 8812) (they use the smaller bar!), and if you wanted a big place you could try working mens clubs...
The Pitz Soccer Stadium on Woodburn Road near Attercliffe. We've had 2 parties there in 3 months. You pay a £50 deposit but you get it back if there's no damage etc. So, really it's free. Decent size too.

Michael_W 06-03-2003, 12:41 Big Tree at Woodseats has an upstairs function room, OK for about 50 - 75 guests. Don't know how much it costs to hire ?
Also 'Stars' (part of the ice rink) on Queens Road has two different sized function rooms but is a little more central than South, and is not a pub if that counts it out !

Yes I can vouch for Stars, it's good. not sure on pricing though.
Mikey
Try Prince of Wales at Eckington or the Miners Welfare Club at Mosbro'. Both have decent rooms with a bar and are on the SE side of Sheffield. Don't know about the cost though. :)
I'm looking for somewhere central, for a small group of people (about a dozen). Anyone have any ideas?
The Red Deer(back of West St) has a room upstairs, they charge £10.
Its very good but they have a lot of regular bookings.

Is that the one with all the Unusual Real Ales?
Yeah Thats the one, nr Vodka Revolution
Does anyone know of a good sized room that we can hire and prepare our own buffett for our sons wedding.
Tried loads of places but all do their own food and its costs a fortune.
You could try St Phillip's Club on Radford Street, just off Upper Allen Street. I hired it last week for a quiz night / fund raiser and we supplied our own food. There were about 80 of us and it was about 1/3 full. There's a dance floor, disco lights and everything you might need.
Opposite a tram stop and with loads of parking.
Very reasonable rates but you need to ring on Sheffield 2722678 to get a price.
:D
I am also looking for a room for a fundraiser.
I have just rung Don Valley Stadium as they have a room that holds 250 with a bar. It costs £30 and you can bring you own food and DJ if needed or they can arrange for you.
The other one I know is Brincliffe Oaks room holds 175 and they charge £50 with no food but if you want food you do have to take their food.
Anymore ideas as I am looking
any big church halls anywhere?
Michael_W 25-04-2003, 18:29 Try Stars on Queens Road, they have two different rooms the largest of which cost me about £200 (last year) including the DJ and you can provide your own food. Contact the Ice Rink for up to date details.
Try Ridgeway Sports & Social club. Lovely room with dance floor, kitchen so that you can do your own catering and a lovely little bar area.
MARTINO 1 19-09-2003, 21:43 Try the office at upperthorpe they have a nice function room.
Yeah, The Office is good, we had the place for Mum's 50th, not THAT many years ago...
Good place, cheap enough at the bar, and good entertainment.
Classic Rock 21-11-2003, 17:23 Erm, not wishing to state the obvious, but how about the Classic Rock Bar? Room 2 holds up to 70 people. Room 1 is bigger. DJ can be provided as can food, or you can bring your own.
ROOM HIRE WILL BE FREE - just drink loads at the bar!
i have a room with dj for £120, city centre pub and the room is a decent size could comfotably hold around a 100 people...

blue-kat 04-12-2003, 01:21 any suggestions for room for rent for party ? Just a room, no food, no horrible discos so people can't talk.
I am leap year baby and will be 10 leap years old next year. ( 40 to the rest of you !)
I would like to invite friends and family, and a pub room wouldn't be suitable as they freak out about under 18s.
I'd like enough space to play some party games.
any ideas appreciated !
TIA

Congratulations :D
Have you tried searching the forums? This question about rooms for hire has been raised a few times in the past. I did a quick search for "function room" and found around 4 different topics.
The search feature can be accessed from the menu to the left of your screen.
Good luck
:)
probably put this in the wrong place....i have a habbit of doing that...but anyway here goes.......i have a function room above my bar.....it as all the facillity's i.e toilets, bar etc and i'm looking for idea's of what to do with it...at the moment its used one night a week by a group that have a quiz night and during december i have quite a few bookings for xmas party's but after that it will be empty for most of the time....i see this as a waste as its a decent room and i'm sure i could use it to help pay for itself..anyone got any good idea's.thanks

But seriously, when we used to try put on parties for our mates with decks and a sound system, the choice of venues was seriously limited, especially anything with a remotely late license.
The last place that was any good was the basement of the Mango Tree, and that only stayed open 'til 12.30ish.
fattybear 18-12-2003, 21:56 How about..
Gay Nights
Live Music/Open Mike sessions
Rap Competitions
Weightwatchers
DJ Tuition Nights
You need something 'specialist' really I reckon - something that would pull people in for a specific reason that isn't on elsewhere.
cheers for the suggestion peeps
Design a leaflet on your computer, describing in detail the facilities you have i.e. size of room and the no of people it will cater for etc and E Mail or mailshot all the businesses in your area. All businesses at some time throughout the year need a private function room for seminars, conferences, leaving party’s etc.
Try The Office in Upperthorpe, loads of space, and you don't HAVE to have the Disco or the grub there.
You know the Safeway on Infirmary Road? It's literally right behind there, just round the corner from the Upperthorpe Baths.
I know it's a good place cos we had me Mother's 50th there 5 years ago, and it were a great night :)
blue-kat 09-01-2004, 21:06 thanks Rich - will take a look and get a price.
I need to get venue booked soon !
I am also waiting for replies from various church halls.

Pete1024 10-01-2004, 03:53 when do you need it for exactly?
blue-kat 10-01-2004, 10:31 ideally afternoon of Sunday 29 Feb, but would consider Sat 28th Feb, however that depends on football traffic.
You should go and check out the Earl on queens rd (opposite halfords ) they have a nice big room you could use there and I am sure they would be more than happy just to put some subtle background music on for you...
the Manager there is called Greg I am sure he would love to help you ! goodluck! x and happy 40th
Where are you coming from?
Try the Lomas hall or the church hall in Stannington, I used the church hall for my birthday once, it has all the amenities
and if you do want to go to a pub after there's 4 in close range of each other.
I can pm you the tel # if you like.
Hello
Any body got any ideas of where we can go for a nice meal for about 70 people and a good party, not necessarily the same place. The reception venue doesn't have to have catering, we can sort that out, but it'd be nice if there were pleasant grounds/gardens. Somewhere we can have a live band would be good too.
We're not looking for anything too formal, just fun, but other than stuffy hotels we've no idea where to begin looking.
All help gratefully received!
iamanant 02-03-2004, 14:46 Wedding venues
lol u want a church!
Try Wortley Hall, it's not far from Sheffield and it's licensed to hold weddings.
Wortley Hall wedding page (http://www.wortleyhall.com/weddings.php)
Cheers for that it looks nice. We're getting married in church (only thanks to Iamanant for remindining us we should do that!) so it's just post nuptials fun we're looking for.

They do receptions too, you don't have to get married there.
Good luck with wherever you choose.
Good place for the post-wedding do is The Office at Upperthorpe, you know where the Safeway on Infirmary Road is? The Office is behind there... One of the best things about The Office is that it's FREE to hire, which leaves you and your spouse more moolah left over for the BEER! And the nibbles and entertainment of course.
my fiancee and i are also planning a church wedding, and we have been looking for somewhere to hold the reception. We may have a look at The Office.. its not far from where i live! It will be funny telling people we are just popping back to the office for the reception!
We're having our reception at The Cutlers Hotel (www.cutlershotel.co.uk) which is a two minute walk from the register office. Champagne and canapes for 40 people, followed by a hot oriental buffet with DJ, license extension, two bars and two function rooms is costing us £1100 with a complimentary bridal suite and full english brekkie thrown in!
I'd definitely recommend it, but don't know about them having room for a live band...
Went to a wedding and reception @ Norton House Country Club this weekend, near the water tower, decent place.
About 40 for the meal and about 70-80 at night.
Hello,
I'm getting married next year, and need to book a function room for the reception.
Does anyone know of any decent pubs or clubs in Sheffield with function rooms for hire?
I'm looking for somewhere with cool/modern decor, where we can fit a band and a DJ. We do not want white table clothes and sugared almonds on the table, so the more off the wall the better.
Any advice would be really appreciated. Please save me spending my big day/night in a big bright village hall.
Cheers

Fireondaroof 27-04-2004, 09:43 There's a nice pub on the main road on the way to Wombwell past Meadowhall towards Rotherham. It's called Marquis, they do free function room hire, the room is quite big and it has modern decor.
Party Boy 27-04-2004, 10:04 Bar Matrix on Charter Row is available. We've had a few work parties in there. The food is nice and they will do some drinks offers as well
The Office at Upperthorpe is free.
Decent size dance floor, free bar... You just have to provide your own food.
Free hire and free bar...sounds too good to be true ;)
hello everyone
does anyone recommend anywhere for a wedding party venue (not a hotel) that can cater for about 40-50 people with some good food and good music afterwards - Must not be cheesey!
preferably indie and dance music etc. somewhere with a bit a class if possible.
thanks in advance for any advice!
glen
Try Woodthorpe hall Farm. (01246) 472349. I went to a wedding there the other week. Sounds like just what you are looking for. Call and ask for Dick or Sue Shepley.

Can def. recommend Wortley Hall - we got married there a year ago and it was fantastic, very laid back, let you do as you want (we had a ceildah and a bouncy castle!) As the bride and groom you get your room free to stay in. The food is good too!
obviously the moderator didint read my post as the thread is no use to me (sorry to nitpick!)
Hi gswift
We can probably help you at the earl.
We've held receptions before and they've gone well.
We can do food or not - music or not - decorations or not - whatever you want.
Best to come see us so you can see what we can offer and we can see what you want, or you could call peta on 0773 292 5209.
Depends what you're looking for I guess but we have quite a large unique space, good soundsystem and an easy atmosphere - but we're not Wortly Hall posh!

Hi,
Our initial venue for my daughters christening has cancelled!!!
I am in desperate need of a venue/function room to host a small and certainly not rowdy party(!)...we were initially going to have it in a pub that doesn't usually open on Sundays...(in the afternoon)...but the pub has decided to open it's doors to the general public on the Sunday...which we didn't want - moreso as it is a christening - we didn't want loads of strangers and smoke wafting our way!
So to summarise...
WANTED IN SHEFFIELD
Sunday 2nd January between approx 2pm-6/7pm
Nice venue/function room - preferably with bar
Catering facilities would be nice (i.e somewhere to keep meat and potato pie warm!) and possibly cook mushy peas and gravy...
For about 50 people...who like a drink!
and closed to the general public!
If anyone can help/knows anywhere nice - please let me know...
MANY THANKS...
DaBouncer 12-12-2004, 20:47 Try Takapuna on West Street.
www.takapunabar.co.uk
Nice bar Dirk Diggler - but maybe a little too posh for what I was looking for - looks more apt for a romantic night out for me and my other half!!!
DaBouncer 12-12-2004, 23:17 They have an upstairs room complete with dancefloor / bar and seating area.
They also have a chef if you want a buffet too mate.
Mid week shouldn't be too much of a problem for a booking mate!
roughy101 12-12-2004, 23:20 try dial house club they have what they call the top bar for private parties
The old Queens head pub by the bus station have an upstairs function room, it is free to hire so long as you buy lots of drinks and the buffets they do are great. Highly recommend it:)
cgksheff 13-12-2004, 21:47 Check with the Phoenix on White Lane.
I had a christening reception there. It is non-smoking and you can have your side of the bar sectioned off.
DaBouncer 13-12-2004, 22:17 Noose and Gibbett opposite the Sheffield Arena has a good function room with a DJ box / bar n stuff.
I think it's free for 100 people and a small charge for 50 people so you might be in luck.
Give em a shout!
Classic Rock 14-12-2004, 11:58 Our room 2 holds up to 60 people, it's private and available then. It has a bar and we can supply a food warmer, etc. There will be no charge for the room hire.
Either PM me or phone the bar on 0114 275 6198 between 6 - 7pm.
Classic Rock Bar, 144 Ecclesall Rd.
NatalieSheff 14-12-2004, 12:05 what about aunt sally's? or George 4th just up from old safeway on infirmary rd, or there RSVP upstairs or Vodka rev have upstairs,
Hi...
Just to update...the couple of venues that I have been to (and I still have to come and have a look at the Classic Rock bar at some point this week...) are not prepared to corden off an area...i.e the general public would be able to use the same area as my party.
I can't believe this...but if it was my pub...and I had the choice between chancing my business being busy or guranteeing 50 people, I know which route my business head would take!
Anyway...thanks to all for your suggestions...I am following up methodically each link! The church we are using is in Attercliffe...
If anyone still thinks of anymore...let me know!
Wishing you all a nice and stress free week before christmas!
i can recommend the classic rock bar
they have a seperate room which can be used for functions on ground floor owners are brill and food exceptional
better than some restraunts iv,e been to
Classic Rock 22-12-2004, 11:45 Thanks roger! Yes, our room 2 is totally apart and can be kept private.
We are also close to town, have very good prices on drinks and catering can be available if required also for a good price. The room is still available on the 2nd January at the moment.
Agent Gypo 22-12-2004, 16:18 Try Sheffield Ski Village on 2769459. They're great for functions, and would close off the bar for you and give you a late licence.
I used to work there behind the bar and in the kitchen and had some great functions.
I think Darren is the bar manager.
Classic Rock 22-12-2004, 17:37 Late licences have to be approved in advance by the courts for one off events. As there isn't a licensing session again until well into the new year, it's not really possible for this to happen....unless they have a late licence available for every night of the year.
amii91213 29-12-2004, 16:46 Help! My venue has just let me down for my wedding reception - it is not til August 05 but because this is such a popular time, everywhere i have tried so far is already booked.
I'm wanting a function room - in a pub/club/hall somewhere with reasonably priced beer (no extortionate hotel bars!) where we can take a buffet in or food can be provided!
I wouldn't have thought this was too much to ask but we are struggling!!!
Any ideas!?!
Thanks
What location are you looking at?
Upstairs in the Old Queens Head in Pond Street used to be free for functions and it's a quite nice room.
amii91213 29-12-2004, 16:54 Preferably round the Hillsborough or town areas, but i realise this may be a tall order!
We were booked in at George IVth but this has just closed!
NatalieSheff 29-12-2004, 16:54 can i just say congratulations sweetie xx hope it all goes well. try ringing hotels, cos they arent as bad as you think
roughy101 29-12-2004, 16:59 try dial house club, they used to charge about £50 and you can do your own buffet.
maggyirene 29-12-2004, 17:07 try the garrison hotel thats at hillsbro barracks
coopster1974 29-12-2004, 17:50 Jubilee Sports & Social Club on Claywheels Lane
onedizzybird 29-12-2004, 18:22 the dinnington rugby club, two newly furbished function rooms ample of green fields, car parking, they have two 6m x 12m marquees avalible for hire, the beer is reasonably priced and they can provide full catering. if your interested you can try and contact the club directly or pm me and i will get you in touch.

Yup - had our wedding reception there - cheap room hire if you know a copper!
Food from Harrods at Ecclesfield - yummy, although I was concentrating on the Bud!
clogginchris 29-12-2004, 22:37 Brincliffe Oaks, Nether Edge. Nice function room, good bar. Not too expensive
in the sheffield 6 area you could try the old Gas club at Malin bridge they have an upstairs room that is on a par with the george iv room that you had or try the stannignton community cente in the grounds of the college opposite the old pinegrove.
other places you could try the farm road sports club near to the ice skates or the companions club at firvale.
was the venue providing you a DJ, as they also get booked up at that time of year, I do know a few of them if you need one
good luck finding a room.

roughy101 30-12-2004, 16:31 i am not sure, but someone tld me the gas club has been sold.
Have you tried one of the SWFC function rooms - they have really nice rooms -just shame about the place :D
Mat:cool:
Are you having a church wedding? Can you hire their hall? they usually have some kitchen facilities, but you should be able to provide your own buffet. Bar equipment can be hired, and you'll just need somebody to hold the licence for the bar.
noisyandy 01-01-2005, 22:10 I'm looking for somewhere in or near the city centre where we can hold a wedding reception on Fri 29 July. We just want somewhere nice and not too pricey because we're working on a very small budget! Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Thank you so very very very much. :-)
WHAT ABOUT THE RUTLAND HOTEL IN BROOMHILL I HAVE BEEN TO A FEW PARTY'S THERE AND ALSO BEEN FOR MEALS AS MY DAUGHTER WORKED THERE,WE HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL AND DID'NT THINK IT WAS ALL THAT EXPENCIVE NEITHER.
OR YOU COULD TRY THE PHILIDELPHIA CLUB AT UPPERTHORPE OR THE OFFICE NEXT DOOR.
onedizzybird 02-01-2005, 13:23 if you don't mind leaving the city there is the rugby club at dinnington
or the Sports club at Abbeydale....
How about the Manchester Hotel on Nursery Street - there is a big upstairs room there.
You can hire a room at both Bar Matrix and Empire bar.
There is an upstairs room at the Old Queens Head, Grapes and Three Cranes.
Agent Gypo 02-01-2005, 14:12 Ski Village, but it's not in the city centre.
clogginchris 03-01-2005, 14:36 Brincliffe Oaks Hotel, Nether Edge have a nice function room, not expensive either.
Dempseys Bar at foot of the Moor? Is it still called that?
Well their upstairs roomwas free last time I used it and I've been to someone elses reception there, years ago, I admit.
Cheap n cheerful back then though rumour has it that its changed a lot since I last went.
You could try searching on here where you'll find:

The Office in Upperthorpe (behind the 24 hour Tesco on Infirmary Road) has a good room for hire, you can hire it for free as well I think.

noisyandy 05-01-2005, 01:26 Thanks for all your help and suggestions. We finally opted for St Philips Social Club off Upper Allen Street: very friendly, helpful, a HUGE room, we can go in the day before to prepare, we can bring our own food, they have a decent bar, loads of parking, right next to Upperthorpe tram stop.... all for £50. OK so not one of the most picturesque parts of Sheffield but at that price I'm not arguing! Anyway, who cares when you're inside having the time of your life? :D

I'm looking for recommendations to hold a 30th birthday party. Has to be in Sheffield and to accommodate about 50 people, including children.
This is needed for Saturday 5th March.
Please help!!!!
Are you looking for a venue in a certain area of Sheffield ?
newdawnevent 05-01-2005, 10:28 We may be able to find you a venue as part of our services. Please call me on the number below to give some more information and I will see what I can do for you.
Mike
Theres a place on Ecclesall road that always seems to be doing functions.. its roughly opposite Nonnas, but I cant remember the name - but yeah it seems perfect for a smallish do. Maybe that'd be worth a gander.

Yeah, Its the polish working mens club or something!! Nice big hall- they hold northern soul nights in there so it seems about the right size!
I was trying to remember the name of that place, I'll try them in a minute, thanks.
As for what part of Sheffield, not really sure, people will be travelling from out of Sheffield mainly so they're going to have to get taxis anyway.
I'm also going to need caterer - any suggestions there? Looking for nice but cheap!!
Classic Rock 05-01-2005, 11:20 Classic Rock Bar - our room 2 holds up to 60 people.
I tried to call Classic Rock Bar but there was no answer.
What's the situation on music playing there? Also are kids allowed? Is it available on Saturday 5th March?
well if yer bird dumps ya for being so cheap wi her big day, gimme a call ,, i'm available ;)
The Ridgway arms has a function room which is really nice, not sure of hire costs though?
Hi
We are getting married abroad in August and want to hire a function room for our return on August the 20th.
We would like somewhere quite "cool". Not some dingey hole or place where your Aunty would do the conga on the dance floor! But it also needs to be reasonably priced and around central Sheff or S10/11 type area.
I can't find anywhere that fits the bill!
Please help I am desperate!
Thanks!!!!!!!
Hi
I am looking to hire a function room in August for 50-80 guests. (We are getting married abroad with family there and want a reception for friends when we get back). - so not somewhere dingey or where you would take your gran. At the same time it can't be too pricey.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
(I tried to post this yesterday but I don't think it worked, if its duplicated sorry!)
What area of Sheffield are you looking to hold your function? The Ridgeway Arms has a function room upstairs which I have attended a wedding reception at, it was very nice.
There's also Spanky's which is a function room in Beighton/Sothall which is joined to a snooker club so depends on what your particularly looking for. It holds quite a large number of people, has it's own bar and a dance floor too.
Hi
Thanks for replying & your suggestions!
Ideally Sheffield 10/11 or the city centre to make it easy for everyone to get to.
There doesn't seem to be a great deal around!
Thanks again!!
Vegasgirl 15-01-2005, 13:25 I'm not sure that this would be exactly what you're looking for, but I had a party at Green's Gym (just off Ecclesall Road) for my 30th. You can hire the bar out and they clear an area for a dance floor. If you are a member, room hire is free, if you're not a member, room hire is £50 but the DJ is free if you have over 50 guests.
The food was fab and the staff were brilliant. My birthday was in July so they also opened the doors to some outside seating.
Thank you, my Mum is a member there so I will pop down and have a look.
Are last orders 11 or can you get an extension?
Thanks again!!!!
Vegasgirl 15-01-2005, 19:40 Yep, you can get a bar extension, but only until 12 midnight as it's classed as a residential area. You have to put your request in writing and give them 3 copies and then they apply for the extension to the council for you.
I would really recommend them. My party had a hawaiian theme and they were having a caribbean night the week after and had bought some decorations which they offered to put up for my party.
Thanks.
A friend & I went down yesterday to have a look at it. (How neurotic is that? - I just want to get something sorted! I am driving my other half mad). Anyway it does look good thank you so much for recommending it. I have provisionally booked us in, and will confirm once we have both seen it.
I just wondered: (I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions)
- Did it bother you with the reception not being split off. (It looked a bit open and they said they couldn't shut the lights down in the reception til 9).
- Can you get the main are (bar/dance floor bit) quite dark, it looked a bit bright.
- How many people did you invite? We are probably looking at 70/80. Do you think that is too many or few?
- Did you use their disco? Was it good?
- Any recommendations on the food etc?
I didn't think of having a theme. thats a good idea. Although with us getting married in Cyprus I don't really fancy greek theme.
I did speak to one of the managers there and he seemed really helpful & nice.
Anyway, thanks again & sorry for all the questions!
Vegasgirl 16-01-2005, 11:53 Hello again - I don't mind the questions!!!
I only had 50-60 guests and there was definitely room for more. The reception area didn't bother me at all, in fact I only realised the lights were on now that you've mentioned it. The doors are closed and your guests will be on the dance floor!
The lights were definitely dimmed over the dance floor, in fact it was quite dark and the dj had set up loads of flashing lights. I have to say that the DJ wasn't fab, but we just ended up telling him what to play. I have learnt from this experience and will be giving the DJ at my wedding a playlist!!!
With regards to food, I didn't want the 'action' to stop for a buffet, so I just had nibbles. I basically said we have £x to spend on food, can you sort something out. It really was lovely and not the normal nibbles you get. It was quite fancy!
Have you been on www.hitched.co.uk? That's a wedding website and has a fab planning forum. If you pop on, my userid is lochnessymonster.
Thank you, thats really kind.
I just had a quick look from your link and it looks good. Shame I didn't go on before! Everything is sorted & booked for ours now and I have my dress. We are bridesmaid dress shopping in a couple of weeks so except for the party thats it. The party is a last minute add on. We decided to go away just with immediate family (more intimate/costs less/less fuss/less politics/can spend more on honeymoon/holiday and less stress etc) but I later had pangs and wanted some kind of celebration with our friends & extended family. Because we are still desperately trying to save up for the holiday bit of the wedding (parents paying fo the ceremony etc) there is no way we can put on a big flash party. My less neurotic other half has just gone down to look at Greens now after too much nagging! (I hope you are calmer in planning yours!) I don't know what stage you are at with planning but we went to a couple of weddings this summer and Whirlowbrook Hall and Hassop hall are brilliant (the later is v expensive but really classy). Infact having had 3 best friends weddings here so recently I am a font of knowledge on decent people to use etc if you need any help. (Shame I am so hopeless in sorting my own!)
Thank you once again! Your help has been much appreciated!
Vegasgirl 16-01-2005, 20:41 Well, I hope your OH likes it!!!
We are getting married in June in Las Vegas - Similar reasons to yours really and having a party at The Beauchief when we get back. I've got most things sorted, just need jewellery, OH's suit and need to pick a cake (but his mum is making it). That's about it really!!!
Good luck!
newdawnevent 18-01-2005, 15:58 I'm looking for a venue that can accomodate an Asian Wedding Sheffield or Chesterfield.
There will be 200 guests.
Needs to allow outside caterers.
I'm stuck, please help!!!!!!!!
The Market Hall in Chesterfield has a function room upstairs which is let out, and you can I believe take in your own caterers.
you could give them a ring on 01246 345345.
Try the Octagon Centre at the University or Magna in Rotherham
kazisindahouse 18-01-2005, 20:33 Try the Spectrum Centre in Burngreave in Sheffield
DaBouncer 18-01-2005, 20:36 I know a Hotel that fits that description because a relative of mine works there.
Do I get a finders fee?
I know that Sheffield United Conference and Banqueting have allowed Asian weddings before as part of their on going links with the ethnic community. They allowed the use of outside caterers to use their kitchens etc providing it was left as it was found.
Give them a call on 0870 787 1960.
1Man&hisBMW 18-01-2005, 23:32 There is aplace called the old wheel or summat like that going towards chesterfield along the a61. :)

The place I was having has just cancelled and I've sent invites!!!
Does anyone know somewhere that I can hold a party, about 50 people on Saturday 5th March, that allows children.
Please, please, please help!!
Which area Ren? that might help.
coalition 25-01-2005, 14:22 speak with James at Bar Matrix (Chartter Square) about the deals to hire the room there...think it meets all your requirements..
just in Sheffield, most people are coming from out of town, so Sheffield pretty much any area would be looked at right now, it's only 5 1/2 weeks away, !!!!!
Thanks
coalition 25-01-2005, 14:23 not the room to be confused with the old fez club but the the function room of matrix....anotehr option takupuna?
Try reposting it in the going out forum, or PM one of the Mods and ask them to change it for you .
Venue required to hold a 30th birthday party, in Sheffield, any area considered at the moment, for about 50 people, including children.
Did have somewhere but they've just had to cancel on me!
Any help would be appreciated, many thanks
as said before- matrix and takapuna's are good- and vodka revolution has one too!!!
The Bedroom on West Street is available tuesday and wednesday nights, if thats any good for you.
0114 2737633 to book.
JonJParr 25-01-2005, 16:37 Upstairs in Vodka Revolution, West One complex is available to hire for private parties- they don't charge there is just the proviso that a certain amount is taken on the bar during the evening. You will have to provide a deposit which you would lose if the bar didn't take enough.
A nice venue though upstairs and very private with its own DJ, bar and dance floor!
subverTV 25-01-2005, 17:11 Not sure what sort of style venue you're looking for or about the kids bit but Bar Abbey on Abbeydale Road are very accomodating for private parties. It's part of the old cinema complex.
newdawnevent 25-01-2005, 17:22 New Dawn Events offers a venue finding service.
Please contact me with more details and we will conduct a search for you.
We can also supply you with any other aspect of your event if you require assistance.
Let me know you requirements and I will get a quote to you within a couple of days.

Post some details on what you're looking for (i.e. location | is food required etc) and we might be able to offer some suggestions.

Didn't realise this was here too.
Try the Noose n Gibbet down opposite the Sheffield Arena.
It's a nice venue, they offer food caterring facility.
Can't hurt to ask now eh :D
Thanks, I'm just off to visit the Noose and Gibbet now!
beckiipoo 25-01-2005, 20:20 but will i get an 18th birthday party with a few 17 year olds in?
Went to the Noose & Gibbet and have booked that, thanks for your help everyone.

More than welcome mate.
And look at that, no venue finding service fee eh ;)
Lucy_Smith 26-01-2005, 14:02 My boyfriend and I hired Vodka Rev for our joint 21st and had a brilliant time. Staff were excellent and were very tolerant of me considering I was so hammered!
You could lie and say it's your 21st? I don't think any bars would let 17 year olds in when they know they are 17!
There have been many good suggestions for the venue, if you also require a dj, then we have DJ/KJ's available, we offer very competitive rates, and gauranteed that the night will be absolutely superb with aid from the dj/kj.
Vegasgirl 26-01-2005, 15:42 I hired the bar at Greens gym for my 30th. It's free if you're a member, £50 if not. The Dj is free if you can guarantee 50 guests and there is a dance floor area. You can request a bar extension until midnight.
I thought it was a fab place for a party and the staff couldn't do enough for us.
zero is availible to rent i think
another option is sharkys, the upstairs room, seems like a place they could hold prive functions
Hi there - I noticed in your posts that you mentioned Hassop Hall as a good wedding venue. We are thinking of having our wedding there, but would appreciate some feedback from someone who has actually been there. Have you got any feedback - good or bad? Thanks.
Hi
Certainly!
It was one of my oldest friends wedding and it was fantastic. Very classy.
Positives - all of it. (The weather helped) but the location is amazing, I love the gardens and views. We went with Mum and Dad and they don't like disco's (loud music) so there was a lovely bar area for us to sit seperate from the disco. The gardens are great to wander round. The food was lovely as was the service. The bedrooms are lovely too.
Negatives - The dining room is a little dark and I think some people were a little bit around a corner out of the way. (I was drunk so can't be sure on that!)
I thought it was brilliant and if we were getting married here that is where I would go. Although it is very expensive. (I don't know if that is a consideration).
My best friend got married at Whirlow Brook Hall hall and we had a brilliant day there too. I was bridesmaid so it was extra special. (I remember the service there was outstanding). Let me know if you want any more info on that one.
Good luck with the planning!!!!!!
Thanks for that! Puts my mind at rest. I'm going back with my Mum to have a second look tomorrow, but I think we've decided to go ahead and book. Like you say, it's very expensive, so I needed to hear something positive before paying the HUGE deposit.
Thanks again, and good luck with all of your plans too.
Hi,
I'm looking to hire a hall, on a weekly basis for private (invitation only) dance practice.
We need somewhere with a good floor, warm, safe, light, and preferably near the city center.
Any suggestions !?
If you or any of your group are associated with the university in any way, you could try their drama studio. I practice in one of their rehearsal studios with the university percussive dance group and it's fine for us. Only problem is the décor...
Burton Street Project at Hillsborough has 3 such halls. For rent. Private use is fine. Wooden floors, very spacious, cafe/bar as required.
0114 2332908.
I work there too so I know it's a great space.
If its Salsa then Martin S could tell you if its suitable.
Hope it helps. :)
Is a pub function room any good to you?

Thanks Zebra,
Hillsborough is probably a bit too far out though ... unless one of their halls is more central ..........
I contacted Martin anyway.
Thanks once again.

It could be, so long as it's not carpeted.
Needs to be warm, light and we'll need somewhere to plug a cd player in of course !!
We don't need a bar.
I'm thinking along the lines of ... church hall / community center ... if anyone else has any other ideas please let me know :-)
I think the Scout place on Trippit Lane in the city centre hire out their rooms for dancing lessons.
slimsid2000 19-02-2005, 15:49 You could tryThe Lomas Hall (http://www.lomashall.s5.com/) at Stannington.

Dead_Dreamer 02-03-2005, 23:01 Of a venue to have my 18th birthday party. id originally hoped to have it at the Deep End in hillsborough, but im not to keen on it now. Id be really grateful for any suggestions. The venue would have to have a bar, food im not too bothered about, but itd have to accomodate 100+ people and be quite easy to find. Any help really would be appreciated. Thanks for any help.
muddycoffee 02-03-2005, 23:19 well once again, another first poster who starts a new thread before posting replies to other threads. And unlikely to return. who is going to help you, unless you help other people first and become regular?

Dead_Dreamer 03-03-2005, 00:44 Well to be fair I only found this place while looking for venues. Hmm ill take your suggestion into consideration, but as it stands I really dont have time to be spending on internet forums. I was just looking for some help, but I can go elsewhere. Thanks anyway.

Dead_Dreamer 03-03-2005, 09:07 Apparently Empire is a possible, I was just wondering if anyone had ever been to it for a private party and if they had any views on what it was like? Ive only been once but it seemed quite good, im guessing itd be the VIP area though.

I had a party there in November, and it wasn't bad at all. The only thing that marred the night was the aggressive way the security staff tried to get everyone to drink up at 11pm!

foo_fighter 03-03-2005, 10:18 Have you tried the "Working Mens Clubs" or similar.
Most have function rooms with bars and are relatively cheep.
Just find one near where you want to be and ask about availability and price.
Most have resident DJs and catering that's "affordable" too.
Try the Star's and mayfair suite above sheffield ice rink.
Is this where you'd seen it asked before? (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27239)

with good grace ? how do you know ? one already left on the first day !
I hired the Matrix Bar for my birthday party (across road from Empire but owned by same company I think), it was a good night. I know the Empire is due for some renovation / extension soon so not sure if that would be available for hire or not.

Dead_Dreamer 03-03-2005, 17:43 Well thanks for all the help anyway, i ended up booking Empire Bar. For a few reasons: its ok for about 100 people, probably more, isnt expensive to hire out, has a DJ and can be open till 1. Ive also managed to get it on a friday which suprised me! But the input was really appreciated, personally though I found some of the parties at working mens clubs to be quite dire. I wasnt impressed with "Stars" above the ice rink at all.
Kristian 03-03-2005, 17:45 Originally posted by poppins

Hi Again,
Just an idea / tip if you are having food at your party
When I had my party, Empire / Matrix wanted to charge me about £5 or £6 a head for food, which would have ended up costing me about £800!! I just said I would give them £250 and to do what they could with it. The food was lovely by the way.
Enjoy your party

Dead_Dreamer 04-03-2005, 01:09 Thanks, thats actually very helpfull although if you dont mind me asking how much did your £250 cater for? Im planning on having around a hundered people there and although im not planning to properly feed them, nibbles would be nice. Just wondering if you found that that gave you enough food? thanks again by the way for everyone replies, theyve been very helpful.
Hi there,
I too catered for about a 100. We had sandwiches and salad and some hot stuff like veggy chilly and potato wedges and nachos as I remember. People will not eat loads if they out down town on a friday night drinking, like you said, just nibbles is all you want. There was plenty of food to go around and everyone loved it.

Dead_Dreamer 05-03-2005, 22:38 Mercy bocu! Thats a relief =)
kkmohind 08-03-2005, 16:30 I went to a party at empire quite a while back and it was ok but the door staff had the same bad attitudes then. Takapuna might be ok and I,ve been to a party above the ice rink before and it was ok. Also, I hear that the showroom can be hired out for private parties and they have late license
Aaarrrggghhh 08-03-2005, 20:20 ..For a CD Launch party:
Whats the going rate for a room for 8pm til 11pm?
Any reccos?
Not neccesarily a bar...
Polish club?
I'll be bringing my own music...a cdplayer and / or dvd video screen would be nice.
30-40 people
Food not crucial.
You can hire The Bedroom on West Street on Tuesdays or Wednesdays...FREE Hire. You could use our Music system and yes we do have dvd/video on big screen and plasma's.
Perfect venue for that amount of people, as big enough to accomodate more but small enough to get a good buzz with 4o peeps.
pm me to enquire about free dates.

This year I want to get poshed up and maybe have a boogie. Have tried the Marriott, Baldwins omega, Moat house (now Park hotel). Am in Nether edge so don't really want to go over to other side of the city if poss. There is going to be about 20-30 of us. Want it to be up to £25 a head.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

SpaceCadet 21-03-2005, 22:03 Have you thought about the Grosvenor in town opposite the fire station?? Yes I know its not the most salubrious of establishment these days, and its in the autumn of its years, but I’ve been to plenty of Uni end of year balls, birthday parties etc there. They’ve always been memorable, and in your price bracket too. Besides it’s within staggering distance to Nether Edge..

SarahBee 26-03-2005, 21:25 I need a space for ballrom dancing practice!
There used to be a community centre at Fir Street in Walkley.
Alternatively, I think Crookes Working Men's Club used to host dancing classes, so they may be able to help.

There is a Church Hall on Springwater Avenue, Hackenthorpe that may be of use. You can contact them through the Church, Our Lady of Lourdes
wincobank community association on merton lane as a large room for hire also creche room if needed.

Does anyone know of any bars or other venues, preferably around the city centre that can have areas hired for private parties? We are looking to have a charity night where friends and acquaintances can "pay" us on the door to help with fundraising for Millhouses Park Festival. We were looking to hire Cubana on a Sunday, as its free, however, its booked up until Christmas! We also need somewhere that is either fairly cheap or free- not much to ask!

Ummm...what about the Ibis hotel? Im sure they have a function room, or that dodgy looking pub on the corner under the hotel? Or you could all stand out in the car park by the PTE buildings? :suspect:
Try The Office at Upperthorpe, it's behind the Infirmary Road Tesco's.
Not sure of the phone number but it'll be in the book or on Yell.com possibly.
Edit: I forgot to mention that The hire of The Office is free which tallies with your requirements.
Lucy_Smith 29-03-2005, 17:25 I had my 21st birthday party at Vodka Revolution.
Deposit is 100 pounds but you get that back if you make 500 on the bar
Vodka Rev would be good. Sadly, at least half the people present will be foreign students who don't tend to drink that much. Might not make the money back. Does anyone know what the capacity is for private parties?
Lucy_Smith 29-03-2005, 17:36 Think it is about 100. It sounds a lot to make on the bar but I only had about 50 guests and made 580 pounds, but then again they were all feeding me cocktails (hence my swift exit home at 10pm :hihi: )

The Office is apparently free to hire, it's behind the Infirmary Road Tesco's.
I need a venue for a wedding reception (actually, it can be more accurately described as a wedding party as it won't be a traditional reception).
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm looking around the Hillsborough area (but open to all ideas) for around 100 ish people, catered (buffet).
We love The Garrison Hotel in Hillsborough but the food is just too expensive for what you get.
I'm looking for something with a little class, nothing too tacky.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

Right heres the thing,
Im a 15 year old school student who is about to leave secondary education and want a big party at the end of my exams. The whole of year 11 im talking. I need somewhere that wouldnt mind loads of 15/16 year olds being there. We have already had our prom and that was a very formal do, we enjoyed it and wouldnt mind something similar. Or just a casual party but both formal and casual are things to consider. The time when this event would be going ahead would be at the end of june or begging of july. I am not looking for anywhere with a dj provided because my friends dad would consider it.
I would be so greatfull for some help.
Thanks

Ok..a few things
A) You're only 15 and about to LEAVE secondary school??
B) Where abouts are you wanting this party?
C) How much are you willing to pay for hire of venue etc?
D) Do you have a DJ etc?
A =)
tjbot2002 15-05-2005, 21:28 well yes i am 15 but by the time of the party i would be 16 hopefully. Would like the event to take place at either town, brammal lane area, hillsborough.
I have a couple of mates whos dads are djs so i would ask them first because i might be able to cut a deal with them hopefully.
I would say there would be a maximum of 80 people that would be going.
I have no idea how much the price would be so i cant say to be honest but if someone was to post realistic prices i would be more then greatfull.
My school is Parkwood high school so we all live local, i mentioned this incase this helped.
grosvenor house hotel is a good bet,
they have had these types of parties before! :)
corushotels.co.uk
they still have one of the biggest function rooms in sheffield - dont know the cost though, so you would be best contacting their meetings and events department.
tjbot2002 16-05-2005, 22:33 Thanks for that mate i have emailed them and am waiting for a reply. Just trying to decide weather to have it formal like the prom or casual like a normal sort of night club.
bethnsasha 22-05-2005, 16:17 Hiya
