Hidden gem! Went for a staff party a couple of weeks ago loved it, so me & the girlfriend went in last night for a meal. Great value for money & lovely food. The place is beautiful too, we had our meals, then sat on the sofas looking through the glass roof for the rest of the night! Will definitely be going again!

I'm worried this has been left completely too late, but its worth looking anyway

Its my dads 50th birthday on 22nd feb, so looking to have a party for him ideally on friday 18th or saturday 26th
Its been left this late, because it would never be something he'd suggest

But I've decided if I can get a venue, I will try and get in touch with his old work friends (used to be at allvac steelworks then outokumpu)

In all I think there would be about 40-50 people

I've no idea where to go. I called the cutlers/stardust today, but the lady seemed keen to put me off, if I didnt want the big room (which I dont need)

I dont want anything formal- just a nice room, with the option of music/buffet/bar etc - he's going for a proper formal meal on his actual birthday

I just feel completely lost as to where to start

any recommendations/anyone own a place that we can hire?

Malin Bridge Sports and social club (also known as the gas club) is free on some of those dates. The room holds up to 150 and room hire is only £70. Resident DJ is very good and buffet can be arranged or you can organise your own. Bar prices very low.

I don`t think either of them would be big enough. I know it`s not local but the university has quite a few function rooms that could accomadate you.

It sounds like it would be hard to find a fuction room big enough to hold that much people...But maybe if you're lucky enough, you'd find what you'r looking for in Niagara, give them a call and see..

my daughter has just had her 18th at the players lounge in ecclesfield, the room/bar area hold 100-150 people, the room hire is free and you have the option of using there dj and food or sorting your own out.

Went to look at this place saturday. It is nice but i think 100-150 people in there would be a real squeeze. Pity really as it is a nice venue

have you tried laycocks sports club we have done a few parties there nice room too dont think its expensive .

The Pitz Soccer Stadium on Woodburn Road near Attercliffe. We've had 2 parties there in 3 months. You pay a £50 deposit but you get it back if there's no damage etc. So, really it's free. Decent size too.

Last year I attended a party at the dance studio near the Peugeot dealer on Penistone Road. (Sorry, I can't remember the name, and cannot get streetview at present to check). They hired a room with a bar. This overlooked a dance studio. Although it was an adult who had the party, a lot of the guests had young children (mostly toddlers and infant school age). The kids, and some adults, could dance away to their hearts content in the 'disco' room, while the parents could drink and talk in peace, but also keep an eye on the kids.

The food was Meat & Potato pie & Peas - which went down very well. I don't know if the food was provided by the place or not.

For a grown up party which catered well for kids i thought it worked well.

Yes it is. The name had escaped me when I posted. In the room I was in there were probably about 30 to 40 people, which it coped with OK. Also it was a pleasant place to be - nice decor etc, not run down like some pubs and clubs sometimes are.

The riverside cafe near the football ground can be hired but I think you have to take your own booze you can book the whole place and they have a terrace over looking the river with a big canopy.

Wadsley House Social Club - on The Drive off Marlcliffe road, I once went to a wedding reception there it was lovely.

The Rose and Crown (known locally as Minnies) have a grreat back room perfect for parties and they do a lovely buffet. There is also an outdoor bit if you are inviting kids.

The Shoulder of Mutton at Worrall has a room you can hire for events-I had them to cater so the room was free, they also organised a disco and of course the bar is there anyway. This room is separate from the main pub so no problems with gate crashers I can well recommend.

So, I am turning 18 in mid-November. I am looking to plan a party for around 250 people (not all of which would be over 18 ) for a Friday/Saturday evening just after my birthday (15th). I have looked on a bunch of venue websites but on all you have to actually make contact for a quote and I don't want to go that far yet as I'm not even 100% sure I'm having the party.

I want to do something different so I want the event to be quite formal (suits, dinner dresses etc.) so like a prom if you will.

Also I should add that I don't have £1000s to spend but I could probably manage a few hundred.

Being young I don't know many venues to rent so I'd be very grateful if someone could help me out and give some suggestions of where I could look in to.

you really do need to get in touch with venues cos all you are doing is asking the question your not setting things in stone !
Also alot of venues dont allow 18th birthdays or ask a deposit - bond for damage ( unfair I know )
Take the plunge and ask then at least you be able to find out if you can afford it , just tell the venues it an enquiry - November tends to be quite busy as believe it or not people view it as the run up to Christmas

I had one at Hillsborough Club, Bradfield Rd. Fabulous place. Function room upstairs but has lift and full disabled access. Prams can go in it too. Its big inside but looks small from outside. I'd recommend it. :love:

My sister had her 18th birthday at malinbridge pub. Its good cus they get the dj out and put the disco lights on and they close ther room so it will be a private party!

Bowling alley is your best bet, there's one at Firth Park(17 bus) or at centertainment - tram takes you straight there

we have got my daughters 16th at riverlin social club on friday we had same trouble as you are probably having most places around hillsbrough wont have 16 year old because there isnt enough drinking adult but riverlin if you can garentee a good few adults will be there they will accept you.

Possibly a bit too large a room though for just 30.

Firth Park W.M.C. will let you have their concert room on a Friday night, plus put a bar on for you. Not sure about the price but it would be cheap or even free.

hillsborough club is very nice have been to loads of parties there and it is only £65 for the room

Unfortunately Hillsborough club is fully booked that day otherwise would have snapped it up in an instant!

I would have liked Hillsborough arena but cannot afford a £200 fee...unless i have read wrong on the website i've heard it can be rather pricey.

I had my 21st here a lonnnng time ago & it was quite a nice room. A couple of years ago went to a birthday party & it was still nice. Not sure whether you can do your own catering there though.

Malin bridge sports and social club (locally known as gas club) has a great function room available all day Sunday. Call the club on 0114 2335349 for more details.
Food can be arranged

Queens Social Club on Queens Road (S2) has a large function room. You can bring your own DJ, Food ect.

Any one know of a great place for an 18th? As cheap as possible. Ive looked at a place called City Limits on s6. Its a dance studio but has a function room aswell. Not sure on the price... has anyone used this place before?

i would recomend grayhound on attercliffe its really cheap i djed there last night i was talking to he owner and it cost the 50th wedding anerversary 350 all it food room and DJ and it is a decent size room aswell

We're off out in town on Saturday for a hen do - about 30 of us (although it won't be a particularly rowdy one). We're booked in to Revolution for cocktail making but would like to go somewhere afterwards - anyone know any bars in town that are likely to have room for us, or where we could book tables/booths etc?

Hi, Iam looking for a room on a saturday in the middle of December (I know I know!) for a party. In or close to the city centre, either with a bar or where we could bring our own booze, where we could set up games, and also where there are TVs we could hook consoles up to, or at least set up our own TVs and consoles etc.

Doesn't have to be massive, will probably be 20-30 people I would imagine.

Any ideas?

A venue that has been named a few times on here could be ideal, Tulip Lounge.

It's free for parties over 60 people, buffet from £6ph and you can hook up your iPod for the music or they can get you a DJ.

I've booked the cafe function room with it's own bar and you can hook your own ipod up to the sound system.
Food can be provided.
They also do kids parties.
