Desperately looking for a venue to hold a halloween party for about 40 - 50 people on Saturday 1st november. I'd like to be able to provide our own music and food. Ideally fairly central to the city centre. I have a budget of about £100 to £150.

The Devonshire Arms at the bottom of ecclesall road was the perfect venue! Many thanks to James and the excellent bar staff for being so helpfull and friendly throughout! We had a fab time! The location was ace and all our guests commented on how good the venue was. Really pleased and would highly recommend to others - we will certainly be using it again if James will have us back!!!!!

Recommend The Devonshire Arms on Ecclesall Road. Free room and can do your own cartering and bar is on hand for drinks. Very pleasant private conservatory. Pleasant staff.Music availble if required. See my previous postings as we had a terrific party there on October 25th for 60 people. Great night!! Good luck. Have a super time!!

Hi all, Has anyone any suggestions for a venue/space i could use for a private get together on the afternoon of sat 29th nov. It needs to be in either S11, S7 or S1. We would consider either a function room or a community hall, so long as it's nice and cheap and would accomodate about 30 people.
Thanks

Hi,

The company I work for has left organising an xmas party until the last minute and we are now struggling to find a venue for a party on Thursday, December 18.

There's about 20 employees, although I think partners are optional so as an absolute maximum, there'd be 40 of us - does anyone know of a decent venue in Sheffield, or surrounding area, that is likely to be available now?

Please help, we don't want to miss out on a party! :|

Hi,

We'd be looking for a buffet, yes, and perhaps somewhere quite lively as we are a young (but professional and respectable!) crowd. Where are the two venues that you have?

Hi everyone, i'm throwing a suprise 18th party for my best friend in febuary next year and I was wanting something locally either Handsworth or near Handsworth or something in the centre of town at a reasonable price. Mainly because its easier and we have more chance of people showing up if its easier to get to! Obviously because its an 18th we would want a bar :D if music is available that would be great at a reasonable price or i'm sure i could sort out our own DJ and food would be needed as well but again as long as its reasonable however this could also be provided.
If anyone has any offers or knows anywhere which is good from experience could you please let me know? I've never organised something like this before!

Hi, folks, this is really urgent so I am also wanting to post it as a seperate thread if necessary; I am URGENTLY looking for a room/bar/club to hire for SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7TH (The date is non-negotiable, I'm afraid). Any venue offered has to be in, or near the city centre, and has to have PA equipment suitable for a live band, and decks for DJ's. I tried several city centre venues already over the past 5 weeks, but they were either just booked before I enquired, or the correct contacts were unavailable, or they are not available anyway on the date I requested even though one or other manager says that they should be.

Any DIRECT help from venue Managements would be MOST APPRECIATED, rather than suggestions to 'try xyz' as I most likely will have already tried any such popular suggestions.
If any venue has a cancellation for Sat 7th Feb, I would readily take up that slot.
Many Thanks and I hope you cna help!

I’m sorry you had a bad experience at the Arena and hopefully any complaints you had were dealt with appropriately at the time.
Obviously I don’t know what you’re problems were but as we operate a very strict ‘Challenge 21’ policy 18th Birthday Parties can sometimes bring conflict when young people turn up without ID-we would also challenge adults thought to be buying alcohol for under 18s which again can lead to problems.

We had the George IV booked for hubbys 40th do & found out last night it's closing.
Any suggestions for a venue on 21st March needs to hold 100 + people & be able to accommodate 4/5 bands through the evening!
Also would like to organise our own catering & have real ales available!
Fairly central would be an advantage as friends from around the country are coming ad already have hotels booked!

Ask at Hillsborough Hotel they maybe able to accommodate and the beer is very good.

I know it is a pub and not a function room but they may allow you to have a party with music if you don't mind the regulars being there.

I've been looking around on the children's birthday party threads, but they all suggest taking your 4yr old to a play centre, and I can't afford to do that.

Sutton Hall on Dunella Rd, Tel: 0114 234 6503 is nice, recently refurbished. I am not sure how much they charge but wouldn't have expected it to be much.

Are you sure it is what your daughter wants though? Big birthday parties always seem to end up with the birthday child overexcited and crying. I have always found that a smaller party with 3 or 4 friends is much more fun, with craft activities such as making their own party bag (paper bags, stickers and glitter) or get some salt dough out, etc, or cooking activities such as make your own pizza, ice your own buns or make your own knickerbocker glory etc, as well as a few games. Works for my daughter anyhow :)

Hi there

I am wanting to hire a garden, for a tea party for my friends and family. Some Saturday / Sunday afternoon in May.
But if the weather isn't very good, I need a room that we can go into. I want to provide my own buffet. Just finger foods.
Does anybody know a venue that I could hire exclusively?
I will consider most things, if in good condition. Community halls, pubs, etc.

Thanks

Hi,
Im a local DJ looking for a venue in Sheffield to put on my night, Soundboy, which has been running for over 5 years in Buxton. If anyone has any suggestions please give me a shout. Im also looking to contact The Harley and The Stock Room about whether they're available so if anyone has details of who to get in touch with please let me know. If you are into breaks/DnB/hip hop/electro/mash up type stuff check out my mixes for download on my myspace blog.
cheers

5year anniversary.
I've called several pubs, most won't let us do our own food!
I'm sick of having to fork out for scabby buffets that I wouldn't serve to my dog!! Outside caterers in my experience are far better. I'll keep looking, thanks anyway. X

Would really reccomend the Harlequin - had my 18th there and it was brilliant the staff couldn't have been more helpful - it was around the time of the floods and they bent over backwards to make my night special - which it was!!!
The food was fantastic aswell!

I have just visited and booked a great party venue!
Just up from Meadowhall. Concord Golf Club (behind Concord Sports Centre).
Catering from £4.50 per head, or can do your own.
Room hire £30.
I think capacity is 100.
New and modern building.
They offer DJ at £100 or can bring own.
Lots of freebie parking!
Really nice place! Looking forward to our party!
Bargain! X

Im looking for a venue to hold a joint birthday party for myself and 2 others. We are all DJ’s so wouldn’t need any entertainment, we just require a room, with a decent sound system and a well stocked bar, with the option of staying open til the early hours. If you can help please get in touch. Were looking at Saturday 21st March. 07507568291

Is food/buffet required? Or just a venue ? I have 2 possible options available depending if you want a livelier venue with lights, music etc right in the city by john lewis or a more traditional pub setting on Ecclesall Rd. Give me a call 07855233390.

We have done 2 parties at the Devonshire Arms run by james.
including my daughters 18th birthday on saturday night.
brilliant venue the food is fantastic & the staff are very friendly.

I’m looking for a venue somewhere in/around Sheffield for my 18th birthday party. I’ve been looking on the net but not really had any success. Other than I found Revolution Vodka Bar which looks pretty good – you can choose from the rooms, and there’s extras like cocktails/food and stuff, and the rooms look nice, but I don’t know much about Sheff night life really, so need recommendations so i have more options..
There’ll be like 50/60 people I think, no more than 100, most will be 18+ and atm I’m not too bothered about prices, as long as it’s not crazily expensive! So, if you know of anywhere that you think’ll be good, let me know :)
Thank youuu :)

After a very successful 40th birthday bash on Saturday night I can recomend hiring the bar at the Ski Village!

Great views out over Sheffield too!

Also for party catering I can recommend the platters from the deli counter at Sainsburys, we used the Crystal Peaks one, great food & cheap too compared to caterers!

I'm after a venue for a joint 30 and 40th.
I have messaged James but heard nothing.
Someone suggested Reflex which would fit with the 80's theme. First they didn't respond an an email enquiry form. Then I left them a message and when they called back the person said I couldn't have a Friday or Saturday night as 50 - 75 guests wasn't enough. But he couldn't tell me what number would be acceptable and until I have a confirmed venue and date people won't commit!

Anyone got any suggestions? :help:

Hi

Can anyone help me I am looking for a venue to hold my daughters 13th birthday party but I also want somewhere that will provide food as well. I did a party with my own food once before but found it too stressful!
We are looking at about 60 -70 people.

Preferably in the S11 or S7 area but would look at other areas.
We would be looking at about the 25th May or any day that week.

You could always book the venue and then get an outside caterer to provide the food.

There are several church halls etc that are suitable around that area.

We've used Holy Trinity Church Hall

http://www.holytrinitymillhouses.co.uk/serving-the-community.church-hall-parish-centre

or there's the church hall at the bottom of Ringinglow Road, Ecclesall Church?

Mother of God Catholic Church on Abbeydale Rd has a fantastic hall next to the church.

You could also try St Williams of York church hall next to Somerfields on Ecclesall Rd.

I am looking for a venue to hold bi monthly evening meetings. The venue needs to be able to hold up to around 30/40 people, be nearish to the city centre, and because it is for a non profit organisation either free or very cheap. Easy parking would be great as would the availability of seating. Rooms above pubs will be fine as long as it is not too loud. Any suggestions?

Hi all,

I have been through all the suggestions already made and have my list of possibilities...!! I am wanting to sort out a venue for a joint 30th either 14th or 28th November. Between 50-80 people but somewhere where we can have a live band played (friends) followed by a DJ (also a friend). All we really want is a venue that is reasonably central to Sheffield, has a good bar and willing to have live music.

Happy to pay up to £100 for room hire.

One place that hasn't been mentioned in this thread so far are Working Men Clubs??? Anyone know whether they are easy to hire?? I remember going to a birthday party at Nether Edge Working mens club last year and they had a live band and a good bar... Anyone know about the costs involved??

Hi!

I am looking for a (hopefully city centre) venue to hire for a private party (not a commercial event), on Saturday 6th Feb. 2010. I have found that some venues, understandably, are unwilling to rent out their best space on a Saturday evening as they lose customers / income. However, I am looking for a venue with the following facilities:

Bar (numbers will be 50 - 100 so i estimate bar spend to be £1k - £1.5k at least)
Would like to handle catering or allow outside catering
Stage - central or at one end of room or moveable!
Atmosphere - I don't have a big budget for decoration so a massive room wouldn't go down very well - a cute atmospheric little venue / room would be great.
PA system to play music from Laptop and CDs.

All help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Atmosphere - I don't have a big budget for decoration so a massive room wouldn't go down very well - a cute atmospheric little venue / room would be great.
PA system to play music from Laptop and CDs.

All help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi there, please take a look at our website: tuliplounge.com. It is on its way to being complete now but I think we are just what you are looking for. We have run many very similar, if not identical, functions. We don't charge for room hire, instead we charge per head on a buffet & you have the entire bar to yourselves. We have an ample sound system that we run off a laptop, you could bring your own in or send us a playlist, entirely up to you.
Feel free to contact us to discuss any arrangements.

The Old rectory at Handsworth is a great venue to hire for parties. It has a choice of 5 rooms - some with Georgian splendor - others are like big church halls. The capacity is up to 150 people. the room hire starts at £10 per hour depending on the room.

There is free carparking for 36 cars, big outside lawns, there is a licensed bar at good pub prices and their are catering options available or you can do your own buffet style self catering too.

So if your planning a kids party or and Adults birthday, a wedding reception or anniversary bash, its a great place for Bands, discos, entertainers and much more.

Try the web site at http://www.orh.org.uk.

there is a page just for party hire, as well as weddings, conferences etc

Thats right - we used to be called the Handsworth Parish Centre - we are the Old Rectory now. It is a popular missconception that we are the church hall - we are next to the church and in years gone we were the rectory and then the church hall, but these days we are much more than a church hall. We host up to 30 full weddings a year that we fully cater. We do Conferences for the NHS, the police etc but we also provide room rental to local families groups etc at an affordable rate in the same way a church hall does. Don't get me wrong Im proud of our links to the church - it is only that the last comment seemed to imply that there was something a little naff about church halls - or maybe I miss read the intention in which case im sorry.

Sorry if I sounded negative, I know the place well I had a lot of dealing there when Ian was the rector and Ann the secetary there and know Steve (your bar man / manager) very well. My comment was that you made out that your room is like a church hall, when it is still a church hall no matter how much you decorate it or try to chnage the name it is still owned by the church and the parish and is still classed as the church hall by locals and used for various church activities. However I know the other rooms have been refurbished very well and they look nice and it is a nice place to hold a function.

Erm, not wishing to state the obvious, but how about the Classic Rock Bar? Room 2 holds up to 70 people. Room 1 is bigger. DJ can be provided as can food, or you can bring your own.

ROOM HIRE WILL BE FREE - just drink loads at the bar!

sorry, on your tagline it says your a dj? This true? If so we are looking for one for a 25th wedding anniversary at end of january around 35 people, if you are please get back to me with prices etc =D w

I've helped organise singles nights before, on a voluntary basis for members of a website. We used to go to SUFC, but the events side is under new management and it seems they're not interested in 2 or 300 guests buying drinks all night unless we pay a door fee and a half. Does anyone know of anywhere central with parking that would welcome us?

Hi again,

Thanks for calling me earlier, I tried to ring you back but I couldn't get through. We will be able to offer you most of the venue, leaving a small space for the general public if they venture in. Our capacity is 200 you see, so we'd need to make sure we had enough trade, don't worry, you wont see 150 members of the general public coming in! Give me a ring again when you can & we can sort out the music & buffet etc.

Hi.

I`m still looking for a large room to hire (for Dance classes) - as close to Sheffield centre as possible, on a weekly basis (probably at least 40 weeks of the year), also preferably on a Wednesday evening between 7.30-10.30pm. (I don`t ask much, do I ...!)

Flooring-wise - it`d need to be a wood/stone floor (etc.) - carpet is no good for dancing on!

If anyone can help, then please send me a message.

Thanks in advance.

I have been to an 18th birthday party here, and the room upstairs is very nice, especially if you are allowed to rearrange the tables and decorate them, I am not sure as they hadn't bothered for the 18th birthday and so it did have a bit of a working men's club vibe.

The only problem I would have with this venue is that the parking is very limited, so would be difficult if you have a lot of guests with cars. Otherwise it is great.

just booked the players lounge ( ecclesfield snooker club) for an 18th birthday, its newly refurbed and the function room holds around 100 people. the room hire is free, you have the option of getting your own dj or paying £120 for theres, you can also sort your own food or again use there outside catering company with prices starting from £5 per head.

Hi, its my 18th next January but I like things to be planned in advance so I'm starting to think about it all now haha

I want a bar in the city centre, 50-100 capacity, and basically I just want a place that will allow under 18s as I'm one of the first of my friends to turn 18. I was thinking of perhaps putting in a wristband system for under 18s so the bar staff would know who not to serve, of course I would supply these wristbands, but I'm just not sure if bars would be up for this?

I'm interested in places like Forum, Takapuna, Bowery and The Basement.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm a complete novice to all this party planning stuff!

Hi
The wristbands dont work - they just take them off!!
We do accept private parties for 18's however, a parent/guardian must be present to ensure that the under 18's do not consume any alcohol. Private parties of this nature cannot be held Fri or Sat eve at Bar 360.

Have you tried the Queens Road Social Club - more or less opposite B&Q at the bottom of Queens Road.

The function road has a sprung dance floor. It has a bar too!

There were a couple of occaisions when a dance group was in on a Thursday because their regular place was being used for something else.

Sorry I presumed from your comments that you just wanted a party; you didn’t say you wanted us to do the food.
All venues work in different ways, i.e. free venue but insist on using in-house catering or free venue if minimum spend on the bar is reached.
We believe our party venue offers great value for money with no hidden agenda
As stated you could just hire the room @£120.00 and do the rest yourselves or go the whole way and add disco, balloons, catering etc. We have done 100s of parties over the years and all of them were free to choose exactly how they wanted their evening to be.
I hope this information helps and you find your party venue soon

Tulip Lounge review from my party

Have to stay overall i was so impressed with the venue, the staff were helpful (came in early so i could decorate the room) food was really nice, venue has a nice atmosphere and no one else came in the bar all night so we had the whole place to ourselfs. would deffo have a party there again and would recommend to others.

negatives nothing major but......
ran out of gin
ran out of tonic
lift (we had a guest on crutches) was filled with rubbish bags and stank of bustbin /rotten food smells. also had no light
music system was playing up so our music wasnt played properly but wasnt a big deal.
no soap in toilet, also no toilet roll in holders. i went and distributed the toilet rolls between each toilet (had to leave them on top of the sanitary bin)

I'm looking for a venue for my 30th birthday party in Sheffield or Chesterfield. Don't want a roudy pub as there will be a mix of young and older. Somewhere between 50 and 70 guests. Clean and friendly with a private bar would be ideal. Parking also required.

IMPORTANT: we have a singer and PA booked already so venue must be able to accommodate him.

Thanks!

Hello, have been reading through the posts and checking out some places but thought it would be easier to write exactly what we need then hopefully I can narrow it down :)
Me and my friend are both 18, and we are leaving to travel in feb, for 6 months so are looking for a room suitable for a leaving party in January.
There would be people of all ages from about 14 - grandparents. We would need a private room with a bar, big enough to accomodate about 150 people, no catering needed but tables and chairs around the room would be handy. Dance floor definitely needed! Live in Rotherham so somewhere either in or very near would be much better than somewhere in Sheffield, if it is futher out then parking places are necessary!
As cheap as possible obviously.. we are trying to save up! Hit me with quotes if you can, are willing to come visit places together as not many have websites!!
thanks alot. :) x

The one at the Harlequin is free, I believe. They cater also.

Would just like to leave some feedback from a party we had at the Harlequin a couple of weeks ago.

The function room is a decent size and can hold upto 60sih people comfortably. Has bar facilities upstairs but not usually used so we used main bar downstairs in pub. Room hire is free but have to have their catering - which was great and brilliant value at £5 per head (cold buffet) Staff were amazing and very accomodating. CD player in function has loud speakers so we took our own music. Car parking next to pub over weekend in Aizlewood mill.

Can't praise the Harlequin enough, we all had a fantastic night, made even better by the wonderful staff (and variety of wonderful real ales too) Will definately hold another party there in the future.

Hey.
I'm looking for a function room for about 50-80 people in june in the city centre/south sheffield/dronfield/eckington/chesterfield area. The place will need to allow children and I would like to do/find my own caterer.

Im looking for a function room in the S6 area for July time.

It would need to have a bar, dj and also do catering.

Can anybody recommend anywhere? Ive tried niagara, wadsley house club and hillsborough club and they are all booked. Also looked at hillsborough arena website and they are far too expensive.

The new Sheffield based record label Itchy Pig Records will be launching their new night on the 25th of Feb. They are keeping the DJs and artists to launch the event under lock and key, however this is sure to be a big one.

With the ethos of their nights being evolved around 'sweaty dance floor and very good music', their their motto being to push the boundaries of sound, you will sure find it hard not to have a good time.

These guys have had great reviews from around the globe with their releases from the label. Having co-run various events up and down the country, they are setting there marks here in Sheffield.

25th February, held at DLS (Dirty Little Secret), 7 Smithfield, Shalesmoor. If you love a good warehouse rave, your gonna love this one.

Haven't looked through the 37 pages so sorry if this is already there.

Malin Bridge Sports and Social club (also known as the gas club) is a great venue for parties. Room hire is very reasonable, resident DJ is fantastic and prices at the bar are cheap (same price as members pay) Available for hire Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon for kid's parties/christenings ets. Midweek hire available on some occasions

Chimney House but i'm not sure on how many it holds for a party. I looked into it for my wedding reception but it wasn't big enough, really nice place and different.

I'm worried this has been left completely too late, but its worth looking anyway

Its my dads 50th birthday on 22nd feb, so looking to have a party for him ideally on friday 18th or saturday 26th
Its been left this late, because it would never be something he'd suggest

But I've decided if I can get a venue, I will try and get in touch with his old work friends (used to be at allvac steelworks then outokumpu)

In all I think there would be about 40-50 people

I've no idea where to go. I called the cutlers/stardust today, but the lady seemed keen to put me off, if I didnt want the big room (which I dont need)

I dont want anything formal- just a nice room, with the option of music/buffet/bar etc - he's going for a proper formal meal on his actual birthday

I just feel completely lost as to where to start

any recommendations/anyone own a place that we can hire?

Yes-Dam House Restuarant Crookes Valley Park. Great location, clean and modern, funtion room and bar. Easy parking too. If you want to call in go up to the Childrens Hospital and turn right immediately after the Museum onto Mushroom Lane. At the back of the museum you will see the entrance to the Dam House.
