View Full Version : Why do people slag off thin people?
kirstyhobson 15-09-2003, 11:02 why is it when you are slim, people put you down for it.you are forever saying i think you should eat more,do you make your self sick ect, ect, ect.but if you said i think you should eat less to a bigger person thay would slap you.so why say it to us?most of us slim people where born like this,we can not help that we can get in a size 8.its not us that has the problem its you that slag us off. im very slim.iv been small all my life,i eat like a horse but yet i can not put the pounds on. i would love to be a size 10 so i didnt have to shop in the childrens stores.im just asking people out there to think before you open your mouths.its not nice to be slagged off becaues size.
DaBouncer 15-09-2003, 11:05 Whoa there nelly!
Has anyone on this forum slagged you off?
If not, why not just generalise your question, rather than telling us of for doing something we may not have done!
I understand where you're coming from, and yes it is as blatantly offensive as saying someone should eat less.
But please, dont come on here telling us off, if we aint done nowt! Otherwise it's just: Pot, Kettle, Black! ;)
alchresearch 15-09-2003, 11:46 It depends on how you class 'thin'. There's nothing healthy or sexy in seeing skin hang off a skeleton,
I have this argument with my wife. She thinks thin is better whereas I, talking from a male perspective, say that men, generally prefer a little bit of flesh. After all, there are few, if any, top shelf men's mags portraying V Beckham type bodies. Similarly, there are no women's mags with more generously endowed women. Those that do have models over a size 10 are usually saying something like 'it's ok to be larger that Kate Moss, if that's all you can manage' but in a tone which implies it's not.
Kirsty, if you like your size that's the important thing. At this moment in time I'm carrying a few extra pounds but it doesn't worry me plus it doesn't change who I am.
Sententious grin, smug shrug of shoulders, friendly hand wave and departs having dropped a few pearls of wisdom.
Lindseyw 15-09-2003, 12:44 Well what a subject.... I'm not thin or even slim by any stretch of the imagination. I am quite a 'large' girl and damn happy with myself too... no messing with Dr Atkin or Missus Slim Fast for me !!
As for slagging people off for being thin or slim I think you are judging the population be 2 or 3 comments you have heard maybe ?
i dont think kirsty was meaning this as a direct question against anyone in the forum it was more a general question.
doesn't matter who you are, what you look like theres always someone ignorant to slag you off somewhere

Good point there Ritzy
Lindseyw 15-09-2003, 13:07 That was my point - it is a general question, not people on here..... but you hear 1 or 2 people saying it and then it feels like it's the world !
Moon Maiden 15-09-2003, 13:16 As someone who used to be anorexicly skinny (not because I was anorexic I may add) I can sympathise.
But I can also see why people will tell you to get yourself a lard sandwich. Whilst I am not completely happy with my new rounder figure I DO NOT under any circumstances want to go back to the skinny ribs I was.
My gran actually took me to the dr's when I was about 14 asking what she could do to help me put ON weight, as she couldn't understand my skinnyness either. This is despite the four bars of chocelate to and from school adn teh tonne and a half of food I consumed at home.
Perhaps this is why I am big now. My metabolism has changed and I am still eating like the above.
My advice is to eat a healthy balanced diet and enjoy the lack of weight incase you should gain lots later.
Moon
KateRatcliff 15-09-2003, 13:22 I get this all the time from my family and friends but if your happy with the way you are then ignore them, I had a friend who is a big girl and i use to get called skinny b***h all the time from herbut I just laughed it off. I eat like a horse but seem not to put any weight on but now I'm expecting my first child I have a belly and I'm loving it so just ignore the ppl that say things like that.
Moon Maiden 15-09-2003, 13:52 be careful then - my weight piled on after the kids!!
I don't really give a rats arse what other folk think. It is nice when I get nice comments but I am not happy ;)

DaBouncer 15-09-2003, 14:05 I like how the Google ad thing at the top is displaying the links to diet sites!

We are as God made us, fat, thin, tall, small, handsome, ugly, it is terrible bad manners to slag people off for any reason, but to get personal and deliberately hurt a persons feelings shows a blatant disregard for that persons status as a valuable human being and it also shows what an evil mind the perpetrator has got and he/she should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
I think it stems down to extremism.
Im quite fat, and I was teased for it for a long time, if someone is extremly "something" then they'll get teased for it. No matter what it is, good or bad.
it can make life difficult at times and still does for me for a number of reasons, but people grow up eventually (well some dont, but life deals them a crap hand in the end ;))
try to look beyond them, but if its family saying it take heed because they are usually right and are probably concerned :o
*Twinkle* 15-09-2003, 21:14 I think I have a belly on me, but I guess it all depends on how I am feeling that day.
Sometimes I look in the mirror and think wow what a little bottom I have! Then the next day I'm prodding it back into place!
I feel good about myself because people around me are telling me I look good. My boyfriend, my mum, my friends...it does a lot for your self esteem to know others think you look good.
I guess it must be difficult if your family comment on your size/shape all the time. But then again they are your family and as RPG said, they will have your best interests at heart. :)
All women seem to be OBSESSED with being thin, yet at the same time, most men prefer women with curves and a nice figure, rather than the skeleton figures that fashion catwalks use. I find this quite ironic really, but I also feel sorry for women and girls who feel that they are so pressurised into looking a certain way that they have to go on dangerous diets or make themselves sick. Don't get me wrong, being FAT isn't healthy or attractive either, but theres an awfully large range in between the 2 extremes.
kittykat 15-09-2003, 22:54 in answer to the original question - IN GENERAL if it is girls who slag you off for being thin its jealousy.

Unless you are a gay priest presumably....?
I would never buy a sandwich from a skinny person.....i would walk out
I am thin. always have been. I find it hard to put weight on. I eat what I want when I want.
You do get people thinking, bloody hell look at her.
I really dont like being as thin.
I am not anorexic never have.
it is not perfect/healthy being thin.
How on earth did you dig this one up from 2 and a half years ago? Strange!
Anyway, since it's up now, I do find it a bit annoying that a lot of people think it's quite fine to call me a skinny Bast***. Fortunately, I am not easily offended. but, I'm sure that a lot of people would be. I suppose, I'm judging by my standards though. I know I wouldn't call anyone fatty for example.
I used to be the same, well I still am really. It gets right on my nerves when people tell you you're too skinny, need a decent meal etc. and then praise girls with curves!
Have you noticed how most magazine focus on boy weights? I think as long as you are healthy and happy its great!
I eat like a horse (not on hay :hihi:) I used to be a tiny size 6, then size 8 but I think all that foods catching up on me and I'm a 10! Not that its a big size but not as many people say I'm too skinny now!
