View Full Version : Wok's up Chinese takeaway
chineselover 12-01-2008, 12:18 Has anyone else experienced the food here?????
I went last night and was abit shocked by this place at first glance looks very clean nice place and boasts best food about.
but after ordering afew meals
i was very disapointed
the BBQ ribs just didnt taste right at all but did have alot of meat to them not fatty
and i had some chicken pieces which were supposed to be like a breadcrumb style batter but was really stringy batter which was a bit strange.
now has anyone else experienced this place was it just a bad day????????
Is this the one on Infirmary Road?
chineselover 12-01-2008, 12:45 yes it is on infirmery road
Sorry to hear about the ribs not tasting right but i guess it's all about what you are used to with food i suppose?:(
The Chef there is my Father-in-law (Alan) He has loads of experience & ran many takeaways in Sheffield, his most sucessfull being the 'Happy Garden' chain of Takeaways in the 1980's - 1990's, they were in Dronfield Woodhouse, Killamarsh & Ringinglow Road.
Wok's Up has only been opened for about 6 months as of now and Alan has decided to make this his final venture in the Takeaway business for him before he hangs up his apron & retires in about 2 years time.
(He opened his first takeaway in Penistone way back in 1969!!!)
He previously cooked at 'Sun Yee' in Aston/Swallownest (which many know is a popular shop) before Wok's Up was opened.
I myself was also the main Chef at 'Hollin Royal' Alnwick Rd, Intake S12 Between 1990 - 2005 (this was a Very, Very busy shop most famous for it's Spare Ribs & Salt & Pepper dishes)
At this moment in time I'm working Weekends assisting Alan at Wok's Up.
So if you want to experience 2 Great Chef's cooking then call down to see us!
We have great offers on too at the moment like:
Free Prawn Crackers (orders over £10)
Free Mini Spring Rolls & Prawn Crackers (orders over £15)
Free Delivery, Mini Spring Rolls & Prawn Crackers (orders over £20)
Free 2 litre Bottle Coke, Delivery, Mini Spring Rolls & Prawn Crackers (orders over £25):o
I know it sounds a bit over the Top all the above but I've got to be honest with you the takeaway trade is not what it used to be like, as there is more & more fast food outlets opening up all over the place plus all those Microwave meals at the Supermarkets, the competition is fearce so how else are honest people supposed to make a honest living :help:
If you mention this Thread I may well just throw you in a free meal too just for the sake of it because i'm alittle bit: :loopy:
& if you like the food then you'll have something to  about!
(I can see i'm either going to get slated  for the above or banned)

My question is do you deliver to Woodthorpe ?
Yes, with pleasure. (there may be a small extra charge for the drivers expenses)
MuteWitness 17-02-2008, 12:02 Have to say this is my fav chinese takeaway in Sheffield! Only went because they had half price curries when they first opened. Wish they did crispy seaweed or some bean curd dishes but hopefully they will in the future.
L3GAN - Can i have a free meal now? or chips and curry sauce :hihi:
Sara1312 17-02-2008, 18:26 Woks Up is the only chinese takeaway I would order from. I used to use Hollin Royal where the food was always spot on. Since Legan left this shop however the food was never the same so when I found out he had opened another I followed him and have never looked back since. The food is wonderful and I ordered there for my Valentine's meal as no other restaurant will surfice!!!
There is not enough space on this thread to tell the world that Wok's up is the best place in Sheffield for chinese food.
f_g - I totally agree with you on the seaweed front, although when I rang over the weekend they went out of there way to make me some and it was great!!!

I had to order from them tonight after reading this thread today. Will see if they will do some seaweed next time i order. Got fortune cookies as well this time :hihi:
Fair play to L3GAN for answering the criticism! Its good to see somebody paying an interest in the comments about their establishment.
Based on this thread I will ensure I wil pay a visit soon as long as there is a nice chicken and mushroom based dish on special ;)
Layla Jones 20-02-2008, 15:14 Is the chicken there free range?

Fantomas 20-02-2008, 15:34 Is the chicken there free range?
Is the chicken in any takeaway free range? I'd be very surprised if it was (though I'd be more inclined to patronise places that did use free range). I guess it's an issue for a new thread though really!
Hi, i've been trying to find out if the chicken is free range but all i know is the chicken is Brazillian 100% breast meat.
All i have to do now is to find someone who has worked at a Brazillian chicken farm, anyone on here by any chance?
Sara, I'm affraid i'm not working this Friday evening so you'll have to ask Alan nicley for your free meal:hihi:
MuteWitness 21-02-2008, 22:08 what about the crispy seaweed, I feel cheeky asking for something not on the menu ?
