View Full Version : Foxhill Junior School 60's/70's
I went when it was the old prefabs until the new school was built in 1970,
It was fantastic going into a brand new school, there was a zig zag path down to it and the class rooms were seperated by blackboards, we had quiet rooms where we sat on these funny kind of cube things,
anyone else on here go to Foxhill Juniors ?

John Fox 06-03-2012, 10:17 David Pagdin ran the post office on Foxhill Rd and Kath Pagdin taught at Foxhill as you mentioned. I always remembered her as a very good and kind/caring teacher. You must have been pretty badly behaved if you drove her to slap you, she was always very tolerant with our class in the late 70's/80's.
John Fox 06-03-2012, 10:26 A great teacher of Foxhill school was Mr Riley who took an interest in what interested you as a student and adapted his teaching to fit. This was different in those days which was still pretty much chalk and talk style rules the day.
Mr Riley had a passion for reading poetry and he and I swapped a couple of books (mine was one of my mums that I borrowed from her). He could hold the classes attention 100% with his recitals. I can remember a classic poem he read to us which has stuck with me over the last 30+ years;
Cargoes by John Masefield
QUINQUIREME of Nineveh from distant Ophir,
Rowing home to haven in sunny Palestine,
With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine.
Stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus,
Dipping through the Tropics by the palm-green shores,
With a cargo of diamonds,
Emeralds, amethysts,
Topazes, and cinnamon, and gold moidores.
Dirty British coaster with a salt-caked smoke-stack,
Butting through the Channel in the mad March days,
With a cargo of Tyne coal,
Road-rails, pig-lead,
Firewood, iron-ware, and cheap tin trays.
I went to Foxhill from 75 to 83 , my mum still has all my old school pics and reports :) . Mr Holding was the head and i remember Mr Carr and Mrs Baines being my favourite teachers. I also remember a Mrs Shaw and a Ms Robinson.
One of my main memories is helping to paint the big dinosaur picture that used to be on the bottom playground :)
The teachers i remember are, Mr youle, Mrs Balls, Mrs Parkin (my teacher when I left in 1971) Mr Mawson, the head was Mr Parkin
he was very strict as i recall.
Some of the pupils in my class were: Elaine Holmes, Pamela Bennet, Ian Worth, Peter Angus, Michelle Sampson, Elaine Bottom, Michelle Bowns, Debra Bowler, to name a few.

Mr carr decent bloke who used a short stout stick to punish.
Mr riley..great bloke, and the only one who actually made the slipper a treat to behold/A big white plimsoll,he would line us all up at the end of the day,and sing and wack as he worked his way down the line.
