View Full Version : P.s I Love You...
just got back from watching this "chick flick" , i've got red rimmed eyes and a sore throat where i've been trying to stop blubbering all the way through it.
i can't explain it,it's a little sad ,a little funny and a little happy but it's not a true weepy. it was just so emotional.
I haven't seen it, but I've read the book...that made me a bit teary too!
JFKvsNixon 11-01-2008, 20:43 Mrs JFKvsNixon loves this book as well, she is trying her best to get me to watch it. I am still resisting.

Is it really sad?? I don't 'do' sad films or books...but everyone says this is really good!!:)
I feel you're letting the mods down by exposing your tender side.

She tells me the book is very very emotional.
it's not sad, it is just sentimentally emotional. i seriously gagged at some points and almost whimpered but apart from a slow bit of about 10 minutes it was an enitrely watchable film.
go see it JFK it'll me her happy.
I read the book ages ago and I did get the odd lump in my throat as I read it.
It's typical 'chick lit' !
'd never heard of the book , it was just the only film due to start when we turned up @ 4.45 today, 15 minutes earlier i'd have been back in for Golden Compass again.
Willman,
The official male explanation is that you were allergic to the perfume of someone nearby.
My allergies have been known to be active with 'Field of Dreams', 'The Fisher King', 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Sommersby'.
I've not seen this and it's unlikely I will...
the perfuem must have carried outside Joe i couldn't even talk about the film until w'd walked to the car for fear of blubbering. the only ones to get me, Philadelphia and Killing Fields.
we only went 'cos they've put unlimited up,if we don't get twice a month minimum i'm loosing money.
Cool, was thinking of going with my girlfriend, the great thing about a good weepy film is that you get the chance to console each other and snuggle afterwards.
Went to see Cinderella the other day with my girlfriend and it strangely had the same effect, although not a weepy panto, but, it was very emotional.
Jennie80 11-01-2008, 23:32 I went to see it...I enjoyed it but didn't get overly emotional. Guess I was too busy enjoying the 2 very sexy Irish men in it!!
sheff_minx 12-01-2008, 11:12 I daren't watch it until it's on DVD and I can watch in my own home surrounded by tissues & chocolate! I cried like a baby at the book, and am certain I'll do the same at the film!!!
EdnaKrabappe 12-01-2008, 11:48 Can't decide between this and 'Dan in real life' this afternoon. However i'll be safe from the blubbering unless any dogs/rabbits/wolves get killed in this one.
And don't even GET me started on cats!
PaulTansley 12-01-2008, 12:58 I am going to see this film, so I will need support....I am allergic to perfume to so I will have to ban the missus from wearing it on the night.
Anyone who enjoyed the film, read the book. Far better in my opinion, less Hollywood-ised. (The book is actually set in Ireland and had quite a British feel to it. Guess they insisted on moving it to New York for the US audiences)
Enjoyed the film for what it was, a typical chick flick (and 2.5 hours of Gerry Butler <3 ) but adore the book
magicaljen 12-01-2008, 19:23 Looking forward to seeing this, really love the book, so hoping it lives up to that!
Oh and to Edna: What did you see in the end? I watched Dan in real life today as thought fancied a more upbeat film than Ps I love you, and ended up blubbering a bit/nearly blubbering a lot of the way through Dan!! Good film though :P
LitleMermaid 12-01-2008, 19:41 Looking forward to seeing this, really love the book, so hoping it lives up to that!

I really hope it lives upto the book too, I thought it was fantastic, even if it is "chick lit":hihi:
Whilst I didn't actually cry at the book, I did get quite emotional and had a lump in my throat sometimes:( no doubt I'll be a sobbing emotional wreck at the cinema:roll:
I'm going to re-fresh my memory and dig the book out right NOW:D I'm always wary when it comes to films based on books though, I hope it doesn't ruin the book completely for me:)
sparklygem 12-01-2008, 19:42 Im going to see this next weekend i think, read the book and really liked it.
LitleMermaid 12-01-2008, 19:44 Oh, and I think it's lovely to see/hear about men getting emotional over something like this and actually admitting to it!!:D

Read the book after you see the film, I don't think the film holds up well in comparison, best to see it without the book fresh in your mind
fabulous_girl 13-01-2008, 00:36 I read that it wasnt set in ireland like the book is and was outraged.... whyever not?! blooming hollywood. i read the book, and liked it enough but it was a bit simple i thought, a bit obvious. she did rattle it off in 3 weeks (or something like that) though. wouldnt mind seeing the film, but probably wont til it comes to dvd
Tanya T 1 14-01-2008, 11:16 I haven't seen it, but I've read the book...that made me a bit teary too!
I havent seen it either but have read the book, it was fantastic!
I thought the film was brilliant but completely different from the book! I've read the book a few times and it is one of my favourites! I did like the film though.
Hilary S**** got on my nerves at first and I thought 'she is NOT Holly!!' but I warmed to her towards the end.
Lisa Kudrow was my favourite in it, I thought she was hilarious!
x
Haha it won't let me put Hilary S's last name for obvious reasons! x
