1. Wireless broadband software window opens and then shuts within a second of it being found in the CD drive.
2. Laptop downstairs, computer upstairs. want to connect computer to broadband but only pay for broadband once. We have wireless stuff for both but on the laptop we are registered for supanet broadband and the upstairs computer is brand new and we don't know how to set up supanet broadband on that as it is a wanadoo link!!!
Sorry if you dont understand, I do not really know the technical terms!!!
The first problem is probably fairly simple. Double click on the "My Computer" icon then double click on "D Drive". This will bring up what is on the CD, look for one called setup or install or something like that. Double click that and that should set you on the way.
This assumes you have a Windows based PC.
Second one probably isn't so straight forward. Once you have installed the wireless software on the CD it should just work if not then you may have to read the instuctions, or give us some more information.
We cheated and had somebody out to set us up with exactly what you described. My friend did too.

How much did it cost to have someone trained to do it themselves?

When I do this, the screen opens for a split second then shuts down itself.
We have no viruses on our laptop either.
i take it the laptop is configured to connect to somesort of wireless router upstairs already?
all you should need to do is configure the new pc to connect to the wireless router in the same way as the laptop.
This doesn't necessarily mean you need to run whatever's on the broadband setup disk (in fact almost certainly not).
You'll need to configure the sid, and if you have encryption enabled the wep key, then the new pc should be allocated an ip by the router and everything will work.

If you do have encryption I wouldn't use WEP, very hackable.
