Yes, it's incomprehensible.

There is no honour in killing your children or anyone else for that matter. The whole concept is entirely without meaning. Those involved say it's because the individual has brought "shame" on the family....I say shame on you....you son of a bitch!

Says you. Your concept of honour is irrelevant to these people.

Well of course it's irrelevant! Plenty of people before me are of the same opinion and have protested this barbaric practice for a long time with absolutely no effect.
It may be culturally acceptable elsewhere but when it happens on my doorstep I'm forced to think about how we are expected to deal with it as a country who's tolerance of it is somewhat quite different.
Would you care to offer your opinion Heyesey?

Have to agree. What we see as deplorable they see as a way of life:(

I get what you're saying The_DADDY but I for one have trouble understanding how, even in different cultures, a humans' right to life and someones right to take someone else's without consequence can become so confused and almost accepted among other cultures! Don't get me wrong, I understand that cultures the world over have their own ideas about life, but should there not be some sort of consensus inbuilt into us all from birth that to deliberately and intentionally take the life of another is inherently unacceptable?
Also, I can't think of any other culture which offers such a barbaric (and often humiliating) act of hooliganism toward a member of their own family who choose not to be married by pre-arrangement and instead chooses to adopt a more civilised, western culture with a wish to marry who they choose themselves.
For the most part, those who choose their own destiny in life without agreeing to a pre-arranged marriage end up dead.
this was a fantastic programme especiallay at the end that poor lad who lost his mother and sister and was fighting cancer and gave up in the end
it had me in tears

honour killings is a cultural rather than religious thing, (it crosses the religious divide) and actually, most rational people accept that it is out-of-order, yes, of course, it's more prevalent than we would wish (if there is one honour killing, one is two-too many!) And it is expressly forbidden in the Qur'an.

Hey Plain Talker, I agree with you implicitly...This is a cultural indifference and is in no way related to religion.
There is a whole history on it whereby certain tribes deemed it as the "duty" for a male family member to kill her should she ever bring "shame" to the family name.
One example I found was just heartbreaking, here it is :
In March 1999 a 16-year-old mentally retarded girl, Lal Jamilla Mandokhel, was reportedly raped several times by a junior clerk of the local government department of agriculture in a hotel in
Parachinar, North West Frontier Province. The girl's uncle filed a complaint about the incident with police who took the accused into protective custody but handed over the girl to her tribe,
the Mazuzai in the Kurram Agency. A jirga of Pathan tribesmen decided that she had brought shame to her tribe and that the honour could only be restored by her death. She was shot dead
in front of a tribal gathering.
Now come on!!! Where was the choice for this poor victim??? :loopy:

I cannot and never will understand how parents can kill their own children and think nothing of it:loopy:
Yes I know parents kill their children in all cultures but normally when they are mentally ill or in depression. This is just cold calculating murder for no more reason than they have chosen to do something the parents dont like.
