My phone needs a repair (Nokia 6820 (http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,48641,00.html)) and I'm really missing it. Will have to ring them up and book it in.

I like that phone as it's got a full open-up qwerty keypad, camera and colour screen etc. Great for texting. :)

it depends on where you get it fixed

Depends what you want it to do/look like.

Best advice is to set aside an afternoon and go round 3-4 shops in town. Get advice from all of them but definitely don't sign anything until you've visited a few.
Also remember that the sales assistants/advisors have an awful lot of stuff to remember and often get it wrong/make it up. Make sure you have in writing EXACTLY what they tell you.
Make an informed choice and get plenty of advice - you're stuck with it for at least a year.

it depends if you are going for pay as u go, or a free upgrade on a monthly bill which then depends on the monthly price plan you are on.

I was on T-mobile and they refused to upgrade me to anything decent cos I only spend £25 quid a month, so I cancelled my contract got offered a half price deal but I swapped networks anyway and got the upgrade I wanted did it all on the internet too so no messing around in the shops ( I did try to do it in the shop but forgot my ID which oddly you don't have to do if you do it over the web!).

I was not wanting anything too fancy just one that takes piccy's so ended up with a samsung which was a change as I have always had nokias.

Make sure you shop around and if they refuse to upgrade just cancel and they will most likely offer you a better deal............bit like telewest if you ring to cancel!

Sony Ericsson S700i.... I want one, I want one, I want one :D

I work for a mobile phone company (mentioning no names!) and the cost of the phone really depends whether you are going for a brand new contract or an upgrade of an existing account... you will nearly always get the phone free/next to nothing on a new contract. This is mainly because the dealers earn more commission when selling new lines.

The above phone does everything you need a phone to do; camera, video, MP3, email.... and make calls and send sms too! Bargain.

Don't think it's even available on pay as you go yet.. and as far as I'm aware it's only currently available on Vodafone and o2.

Its silly money though.. £499.95 -- so far for a sim free Pay as U go... just go contract its much better.

Anybody got a Samsung D500? Thats the one Im after at the moment upgrading from my poor 7650 now.

I just bought an N-Gage QD, it's great if you want tons from your phone (games, MSN lots of software etc.), however if all you want to do is text and talk any phone will do!!

N Gages are OK as entertainment devices but as a phone, you may as well buy a house brick IMO.

I've got the S700i and can recommend it. It's fantastic and if I ever go anywhere and didn't think to take my digital camera with me, it takes fantastic photos at 1.3megapixel. These are downloaded very easily to a pc (I use a memory card reader).
If you are looking at buying this phone for pay as you go though, forget it. Contract is the way to go but it's still quite expensive on some networks. In fact, I'm on O2 and it should have cost me £180 to upgrade to it but I basically told them that they had been really bad over the past year (see previous threads!) and if they didn't give it to me for free, I'd leave! I got it for free :)

My blokey has nokia 6230 (think that's the model) which is free on most networks and is really good for mp3's because you can put a 1gb card in it.

I'm all retro and used a 6310i! As all I want to do with a phone is well phone and text it suits me fine! If you don't mind an oldish phone you can often find really good deals on www.dialaphone.co.uk - up to and including cashback to cover the entire base cost of the phone!

EDIT - for example this (http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/offerdetails_white.aspx?offercode=VODVA12&ID=1) one!

I used to find dial-a-phone really good and have bought from them twice, but this year they wouldn't match O2's online offers, but with t-mobile they wouldnt match dial-a-phones deals!!!! Ive ended up getting that new nokia 7260, that one with the lines on it, newish one.. Should be coming 2morrow after a 2 week wait :@ \Grrrr 02 have not got off to a gud start.

Anyone else had problems with O2 ?

I have had a sonyericsson T610 for the last year, and while a super phone, the predictable texting is not a patch on Nokia.
I have a friend at college who has a newer sonyericsson phone and says it's crap because she can't get along with the texting at all.

I live at woodseats so It's got to be orange as that's the only signal which works really well, especially at the beauchief end.

I have a couple of mates who have just got an SPV C500, but they are slow and more like PDAs than Phones and while you can run all sorts of programmes on them and watch videos etc.. they both prefer their old sonyericsson610 because they were better as a phone. Although as a gadget this device is fantastic
this is a good place to get one :-

And I was thinking about one of those Samsung D500. Does anybody have one what is the texting like compared to Nokia and Sony ericsson?

Where's the best place to buy one?

I really don't see what the problem with texting is, I find that it takes a few days to get used to it when you switch and then you just don't think about it. I've had a motorola, 2 nokias, sony ericcson, samsung and now a sony ericcson again, and it's fine.

One think I didn't like about the Samsung (i had an e700, don't know about D500) was that in T9 mode, if you type a word and then move on to the next, you can't edit it without deleting it and retyping. With the sony ericcson you can go back to any word and 'select' it, and change it. Not exactly a major problem, but was a bit annoying sometimes.
