usually i leave for work round about 7:30 and get to work for 8 after spending 30 mins in the traffic

today I leave at 7:50 and i still get to work for 8....

why or why are the roads so clear when the kids aren't at school , wish it could be like this more often!!!

You've answered your own question - no school-related traffic. It's a joy, even for a pedestrian (less exhaust fumes).

I bet the kids would love that too, but I guess like all good things must come to an end.

7:30-8 seems a little early for the school rush.

Conversely, I ran my son down to Bramall Lane on monday, setting off at 8:40 from Longley. Got to Bramall Lane at.........9:40.

It took 35 minutes to do the one mile to Pitsmoor Road. No schools, so wonder what the problem was. I averaged 3mph!! Maybe I should have walked.:(

On Monday morning there was a set of temporary traffic lights at the bottom of Rutland Road which caused all sorts of problems.

07:30's not too early to notice the effect of school hols - I walk Malin Bridge to Ecclesall Rd 06:50-07:50 each day and the drop off in traffic is amazing outside of term time. And the effect on roadside air quality really is noticeable.
