View Full Version : Remember Balti King or Millennium?
briggy1967 15-02-2005, 15:54 Anyone got any memores, opinions, issues about Balti-King Indian Resteraunt or Millenium Take Away at Broomhill,i was manager of Millenium Take Away for the first 2 years that it opened ( The 50p Cheese Burger was my idea) and also did stints behind the bar at Balti-King (i was the white guy!!!)
I don't get how your poll answers match the question, the two don't seem connected.
Of course I remember Millennium and Balti King, but due to the somewhat negative reports I have heard about them I have never been. I'd rather spend £5 rather than 50p if it means I won't be ill the next day...
briggy1967 15-02-2005, 16:09 Beckyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
If ya dont understand the question then dont reply hun.
And if you would rather pay £5 than 50p for a burger that was well tasty and REAL value then you obviously were not a student who loved us would que round the corner for us.
The question makes perfect sense, it's just your answers that don't!
I'm actually quite pleased I was not one of the students who loved you though I'm afraid!
Don't see the connections with the poll and the question either...
There's quite a few people know the Balti King as this thread (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1703) shows.
Nomme
Kristian 15-02-2005, 16:30 I have to agree though, the poll makes no sense at all.

Removed the poll as there was an obvious error.
Feel free to carry on... :D
Ahhh... Balti King... Halyceon days...
Wednesday nights in Balti King after Pulse & Vogue... I always felt really sorry for the waiters in there. Some of the bahaviour that went on was appalling. Too much free snakebite and black at P&V...
Has Balti King closed down then now?
Not that I'm concerned, I'm sure my reformed, and much refined, tastebuds would no longer be able to cope...
Balti King-hell on earth. Most ignorant service I have ever had
Millenium-cheap. that was the only real good point imo
bassman-x 19-02-2005, 12:21 balti king is rubbish - currys for people who don't know what a proper curry is, all the dishes were the same - lumps of meat in different coloured and varyingly spicy sauce.
And everyone know's the the broomhill friery is the daddy of the chippies, anyone remember the 30p cone of chips during the price war with that green place over the road?
Millenniums is the worst takaway place I have ever been to (having lived in Sheffield, Leeds & Manchester over the past 3-4 years that's saying something!).
The reason it was so cheap was because the food was completely sub-standard; having that place next to Broomhill Friery is just embarassing.
daytripper 11-03-2005, 11:28 Balti King - I love this place, food is fantastic, atmosphere and service are great too. I studies in Sheffield for 4 years and spent loads of time here with friends. Now I'm back working in Sheffield I've been a few times in the last couple of months - it great - I'd definately recommend it. Seven spices on West Bar is a good indian too.
daytripper 11-03-2005, 11:37 I must agree with Daytripper. Balti King is one of the Best Indian restaurants in Sheffield - the food is top notch. Its in a good location. I was there at the weekend with some colleagues and we had a great night - friendly and quick service and really good food. I would definately recommend it too!
Agent Gypo 11-03-2005, 11:38 A group of 6 went to Balti King when we first became students. It was absolutely disgusting, and we complained (to no avail).
5 of us were ill the next day.
pussycat 11-03-2005, 11:38 I lived in Broomhill from 1997 - 2000 and only ate from Millenium once not long after it opened. I was ill for two days afterwards, as were two of my housemates. Didn't complain, because it's almost what you expect for such horribly cheap food.
We never went back though - wasn't worth the risk! Even as a student, I prefered to pay for quality.
Balti King's food is awful. As bassman-x said, no matter what you order, it all tastes the same, just in a different colour sauce. :gag:

And I must agree with Edd...theres something very odd about your post! :P
Theres lots of great curry places in sheffield....but balti-king isnt one of them...
Ousetunes 11-03-2005, 11:56 If you seriously think Balti King is good, then I think you either need to get out more, or be prepared to spend a little bit more. Balti King is to curry what O'Neill's is to Irish pubs (or what the Corrs are to Irish music).
Lumps of meat - quite which meat we're not sure - covered in food colourings, bland, uninspired to frankly, boring. It's that bad I'm amazed they've not re-christened it MacBalti.
Try The Real Thing, Ambar on Ecclesall Road or Clay Oven on Oakbrook Road. Food created by chefs who want their customers to appreciate the herbs and spices and the tenderness of the meat albeit at a slightly higher cost than you'd expect elsewhere.
Balti King does exactly what it says on the packet. It caters for well oiled youngsters, desperately in need of some food at some early hour in the morning. Usually, the market is students - look at the promotions they do, all aimed at the student. (I'm not student bashing here either.)
If that's what floats yer boat, it's yours. Just don't pretend it's authentic because nothing could be further from the truth.
theadore 11-03-2005, 17:59 surely the attraction to these places is the fact that when all others close up shop, the two remain, and you can get a whole meal in exchange for a handfull of coppers... certainly not fine dining, but always edible when the timings right.
best time was when millenium first opened and they had half price everything, including cans for 20p... (the only thing i bought with any regularity)
