i visited Andalusia and found beautifull fields of Olive trees in the warm weather and asked if they grow in England. Someone said maybe but they have to be kept in Sunlight/not in shade.

Does this work? Anyone tried it?

I may have a contact for importing good varities near southern spain. so if others are interested please let me know, might be cheaper if i buy in bulk.

if not any advice is good...

I have not heard of them being grown outdoors, however I would think in a greenhouse or polytunnel (I know of people who grow apricots, dates, nectrenes, passion fruit that way here in Sheffield)

mmm, I think we are a little far north for them being out doors too.

Ninja, imagine large arches, covered in polythene to form a tunnel, then you get the ideal of a polytunnel. Sometimes you need planning permission for them I think.

a polytunnel is a similar principle to a greenhouse, however basically it is a big thick plastic sheet over a bent frame

I think down near dorset or somewhere like that is a better chance. They have even found stick insects down there but i think you would need a polytunnel or green house up here as others have said.

They have been trialling them in mid-Wales with some success. Whilst the impacts of climate change are uncertain (depends partly upon our actions or lack of them and what the Gulf Stream does) many of the climate model predictions are for the North of England to resemble the South of England in the coming decades (and the South of England to become Mediterranean). So whilst they're a bit of a long shot now they may not be soon. Every cloud...

They will grow but chances of them fruiting are very very very slim! If you buy one with fruit on it will have been grown under sodium lights so don't expect more fruit next year!

No its a very aged plant we inherited when we bought our house. It has been where it is for some time. It has a trunk of about 2 inch around at the bottom. It flowers really well and has supplied us with some fruit this year.
