I went to Malia for a week in July 2003 and a week in June 2004.

It's big but not huge, there are two 'bar streets' which come down from the old town side of Malia and meet then carry on towards the beach.

There's loads of bars and a few clubs, I've not done Faliraki etc but I get the impression it's not quite as hardcore as there!

Lots of little shops and a big Spar if you are self catering.

What hotel are you staying at? If you want to find genuine reviews of it try Holidays Exposed (www.holidays-exposed.com) and look it up.

Just one thing... if you are on a flight that will get you to Malia after 9pm, you will most probably have to carry your suitcase upto half a mile to your hotel because the roads are so narrow and the coaches can't fit down. Also Heraklion airport is on the tip of the island...be prepared to be on the coach for seemingly ages as all the older couples and families get off at the quiter resorts such as Stalis and Gouves which are before Malia on the coast road.

Oh and one other thing, beware the chicken pizza at Pizza Corner and the Greek bar owner at the Camelot/King Arthur bar is horrible and will harass you!

If all you're going to be doing is boozing, why do you care what it's like?

Went to Malia a few years ago, in September, stayed in an apartment just off the main road which meant a long walk to the beach.
The staff in the Dolfin bar, as I remember, were very friendly.
The problem is that the beaqch is a little rocky in places and the sun shines from the mainland not from the sea so you have toturn you back on the sea to get a good tan.
The upside is that all the topless women face the bars so you can each and view at the same time.
The restuarants in the old village are well worth a visit and the ouzo slips down very easily if taken as a long drink with lemonade and plenty of ice.
Visit the the old ruins,( well ruins have to be old don't they ) east of Malia where you will seem some of the biggest jugs you will ever see and they are not on women.
Agiopus Nicholias is worth a visit and go for a stroll round Stalis but expect to understand german, its full of them, but you will enjoy the holiday, oh bye the .way they grow good bananas
