View Full Version : Lodgemoor to Rivelin walk snakebec 09-01-2008, 17:26 ........................... scoobz 09-01-2008, 17:59 Hi Snakebec. I think you're talking about a walk that takes you through Wyming Brook here. We've done this walk in the Forum Walking Group a few times, and thoroughly enjoyed it every time, even though as you say it is quite hard going. What we usually do is meet at the Rivelin Park cafe and walk up the Rivelin valley to the Post office where Manchester Road meets Rivelin Valley Road. From here we walk along Manchester Road past the Yorkshire water place until we get to Rivelin Dam at which point we walk along the dam wall and then take a path which goes up Wyming Brook, and eventually leads to Lodge Moor. From Lodge Moor we then head back down to Rivelin via Hagg Farm, and return to the start via the other path which cuts through the Rivelin Valley, crossing the stepping stones at the same time. I hope you make the effort to do the walk again, and that your family enjoy it as much as you used to do! Good luck. snakebec 09-01-2008, 18:04 ..................................... scoobz 09-01-2008, 18:41 that sounds like it.. will it be safe for a 4 and 5yr old??? I love the memories of this fortnightly walk has I was growing up and would love my children to have them to... Yes it's safe, and I would say extremely good fun for kids of that age too. The only thing I would advise though is for you to put them some wellies on cos Wyming Brook in particular gets very wet, and of course they would be useful to have on if paddling in the river too! One other word of warning. The total length of the walk I've described is about 9 miles, which is obviously too far for 4/5 year olds. Starting at Lodge Moor and walking down Wyming Brook, then down through Rivelin Valley is about 1/2 that, and being downhill all the way should be ok for your youngsters, if they're the fairly active types I would have thought. Of course you then end up in a different place to where you started, but your parents managed it, so there's no reason why you can't! snakebec 09-01-2008, 19:08 ....................... gal-tray 04-08-2008, 12:39 my husband can remember walking from lodgemoor to riverlin as a young lad (many years ago) and we want to do a nice walk and was wondering if anyone could tell me where to get off the bus at lodgemoor and is it still the 51 bus many thanks in advance snakebec 04-08-2008, 15:25 u get off at turnimus and walk down has it used to go right to bottom then cross rd and within 2mins u was starting... it stops near the hospital now and u have to walk down that rd... gal-tray 04-08-2008, 15:41 thanks very much thats really helpful we are going to do the walk sunday if its nice scoobz 04-08-2008, 20:56 You need to get off the bus at the terminus at Lodge Moor, then walk along a few yards, cross the road and take a signposted footpath which takes you downhill on the edge of a field. After a few minutes there's a sort of junction where 2 paths meet. Take the right fork here across a small brook, and just after this keep to the right where the path splits. Eventually this path brings you out half way down Lodge Lane, which you take all the way past Fox Hagg Farm to the top of Rivelin. gal-tray 05-08-2008, 07:19 thanks very much have printed off the info then we wont get lost |
