View Full Version : Milk & Fruit delivered to work?
Deano1889 08-01-2008, 14:26 Bit of a stage one this but thought someone on here may be able to help.
I have just been kindly volunteered to take over the milk club at work...
Is there someone in Sheffield who can deliver milk and fresh fruit to offices in the city centre?
I'm far too lazy to go to the shop every Monday morning to fetch stuff!
Any ideas much appreciated!
I've looked at Tesco/Sainsbury/Somerfield but they charge for delivery unless orders are over £25
Do you mean like a milkman? ;-)
Our work gets several litres each day. I can try and find out who does it if you can't find a milkman.
Dark Moomin 08-01-2008, 14:32 These 2 may help you. The first do a variety of work fruit packs which look pretty good, and organic, don't know about milk though.
The secomd will possibly do milk, but might be more expensive and do charge £1.50 delivery I think.
Might be worth contacting the local dairies, I do still see milk people on rounds occassionally I know they deliver to our kitchen here, but don't know which one I'm afraid.

I'd go with Abel & Cole (http://www.abel-cole.co.uk/Home.aspx) over Beanies. You can specify what you want in far more details than with Beanies. And they also do Direct Debit which Beanies don't (or certainly didn't last year).
Deano1889 08-01-2008, 15:01 cheers guys that's really helpful!
Able & Co are the only ones that do milk which is a must.
are there any others as Able can only deliver on a Thursday and are based in Wimbledon?!
They come to me on a Thursday and I've found them to be very good.
Dark Moomin 08-01-2008, 15:36 Able and Cole do seem to be more customisable - however for what I researched them for that wasn't a necessity, but also seem really expensive!
Do the milk and fruit have to come from the same place?

monstermummy 08-01-2008, 18:59 About Able & Cole: We had the problem that a lot of the items were already going off by the time they reached us.
I ended up ringing them every week as I was not happy to pay for fruit that was already mushy.
We also asked for apples to be replaced and on more than one occasions they replaced the apples with something that was already in the box, which meant we did not have a lot of variety for that week.
Poppy'sMum 08-01-2008, 20:01 Have you tried beanies they are on Crookes Valley Road and do an organic fruit and veg bag scheme. They only deliver on a particular day in Sheffield but you can arrange to collect it at a specific time. Don't have first hand knowledge of what they are like, hope this helps.
Beanies are OK, but you'd better like courgettes!! And you have to remember to pay them each week - you can't do a standing order or direct debit.
I've heard someone else say that Abel & Cole delivered some mushy fruit, but I've never had that.
cazziecrisp 08-01-2008, 20:39 You could ask the milkman that delivers in town, he's from Dairy Farmers of Great Britain.
Sorry but not sure about fruit deliveries
I get Abel and Cole and find them to be really helpful and reliable. However, I've lately had the 'mushy fruit' thing but contacted them and got a full credit for the rubbish stuff. I suppose it's hard for them to keep an eye on every single apple and orange in a big delivery operation like that. Monstermummy is right though, if I ask them to not put Kiwi Fruit in one week, they'll replace it with apples, when apples are already in the box anyway.
Eddie_shef 08-01-2008, 21:26 Hi, this is a bit vague but hope it helps
The husband of the lady that owns Neepsend Diner has a pretty big milk run- and I'm sure he said he did fruit (amongst other things)..
You could check him out- but the only way I have of contacting him would be through the Neepsend Diner
scottcross 08-01-2008, 23:02 All Seasons based in town deliver fruit and milk to us would be worth giving them a ring 2700099.
lozluabdan 15-01-2008, 18:38 I use www.giantpeachorganic.com
monstermummy 15-01-2008, 18:44 Tried beanie's too and were eating leeks all winter, by the end of it we did not want to see another leek :)
I think we will try wildstarfoods next, see how that goes.
Andy_KOA 05-02-2008, 10:06 We have just started up a box scheme in the Sheffield. But we are also working on getting milk from a local dairy. We of course have plenty of organic fruit and vegetables.
I'm sure something can be arranged to get fresh milk and fruit to offices in the city centre without too much hassle. Free delivery too.
PM me if you want to discuss this....

Wild Star Foods are miles better than Beanies. Helen who runs it is lovely! We used to have veg from Beanies and ended up with chard week after week. Also all sorts of strange lumpy unidentifiable vegetables which we always ended up making soup out of! When we used them they charged for everything you say you don't want in the box, ie. "no-one in our house likes swede" - right, that's 50p on your bill every week!
In contrast Wild Star Foods are great and very, very helpful if there's something you really don't like. You get newsletters and recipes with your order too!
shinyhappy68 26-03-2008, 06:56 Or Asda will deliver if you order over £25 pw.
I'm another very enthusiastic supporter of Wildstar - it is a much more flexible system than Abel & Coles or Beanies. Each week you can see what is in the boxes for the following week and you can chose which of their many boxes to have that week. And they do allow substitutions and also have a list of other things you can add to your order.
Helen is incredibly responsive as well - if I email her with a query, I get a reply pretty much straight away. And she'll give advice on how to cook something if you've not had it before.
10 out of 10 from me so I'd suggest you go for them for fruit and try and source milk elsewhere.....
would also recommend wildstar, flexible and friendly!
