Whilst Maggie had spent the last 10 years in power successfully creating more divisions and misery in society for most people in the UK, 1989 and the summer of love changed it all, she and her followers hated the fact that thousands of people from all different classes, races and backgrounds were suddenly united and coming together, getting along with no trouble, not having to spend much money having the time of their lives raving with no snobbery pretentious crap, so unfortunately it had to end but what a time period that was!

Several artists who are very well known today got their big break because of the emerging rave scene in 1989. Most music in the 80's was dire to say the least and 1989 marked a significant change in attitude and values, it even brought rock/ indie people together who would normally refuse to even listen to any sort of electronic dance music.

So what you're basically saying is Maggie Thatcher invented Acid House by creating the social conditions that made it necessary? I think that's a backhanded compliment - are you a closet Tory? ;)

I watched this documentary first time around and enjoyed it immensely. The summer of love was indeed a time of massive cultural importance. And what Basil says is sort of true. The conditions were ripe for people to turn to each other and party.

All in all the summer of love was only possible because of the media. While condemning these parties they were selling smiley t-shirts and educating the youth about the fact that they could go to a massive party and have an epiphany. Society changed massively forever.

It was also the last time that dance music was pure. After that the corporate sharks moved in and the people started to get ripped off. The music went overground, it became fashion. But for a while we could all believe that we were going to change everything and do it by the power of music

You're right, it just doesn't happen for no reason and it is a fantastic added bonus that overnight these raves marked the beginning of the end of everything Thatcher stood for, and all the social class barriers she and her supporters created and wanted finally came down, must've of been a terrible time for you all though knowing millions of people all over Britain from all backgrounds were uniting having the time of their lives without any fuss or hassle. The only trouble was when they tried to end it all and the opposite happened where it just grew and propagated throughout the land making the music and the scene even more important and significant than what anyone could of ever imagined.

And now since Labour have been busy controlling us all by dictating how we all should think, creating more barriers and ensuring there's even more divisiveness in society, this must be a really worrying time for you all as potentially something like this movement happening again must now be seen as a real threat.
